I Dont Know What Electric Guitar To Buy. Help

HOW to convince my parents to buy me an electric guitar?I love electric but they hate it! Help?

Find a way to earn enough money to buy it.

Where can I buy and electric guitar cord and are they all the same?

Hi! The standard ¼-inch straight plug and cable you need for your setup can vary from the cheap and functional all the way up to the elaborate and expensive! You can spend quite a bit of money on a guitar cord, (see the Mogami cables at http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Mogami-Platinum-Guitar-Cable-?sku=330037), but for my money the Horizon cables (see http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Horizon-Standard-Guitar-Cable?sku=336010) have proved to be inexpensive and reliable. These are available through many on-line sources, and from your local guitar store. I have used mine at countless gigs (they have gotten stomped on, and tripped over many times), and they still work perfectly. Maybe sometime I will consider investing in a higher grade set (like the ProCo Lifelines, see http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Pro-Co-Lifelines-Instrument-Cable?sku=330500), but for your application I would still recommend the Horizon cables. By the way, your Sunlite Turbo Stratocaster-style guitar looks like a lot of guitar for the $150 price! Remember, it is how and what you play that people will remember most, not what you play it on! Best regards, Dana

I have just bought an electric guitar. Don't know how to start, I mean, chords, scales. Is there any list of any such things step-wise from to start? I want to be a heavy metal lead guitarist.

Welcome to the family.Start out like any other guitarist. Start with the chords, just the basics. Then familiarize yourself with scales and the notes on the fretboard. Scales are essential for a lead guitarist playing solos and stuff.Understand the concept of power chords and drop tunings.A little practice each day of the scales. Then play whatever your heart desires. Lamb of God, Dream Theater, Slayer …. Whatever you like best. Pick a song, try by ear. If not, see the tabs, play as articulately as possible. Focus on getting the notes right before going for speed.Improve your picking. Down picking and alternate picking. Picking is very very important for metal guitarists. Consistent practice each day should do it.Scales and picking. Keep at it each day and don't give up. If you don't get it today, you'll get it tomorrow. Just keep practicing.\m/

Electric or acoustic guitar?

Hello there,

There is no absolute answer to this question. Some folks are of the opinion you should start with an acoustic because it is more forgiving (your technique mistakes are not amplifiied). Others are of the opinion you should start with the electric because it is easier to play. There is merit to both of those opinions. Since you can learn to play on either, go with the one you most want to play. No one else knows which instrument intriques you the most and therefore, no one else can tell you which to play. This is something you will have to decide for your self.

Your budget may end up being the deciding factor. If you buy an electric guitar, you are going to need to get a decent amp. Figure on spending about half your budget on the amp. I am not fond of the small amps in the starter packages. The speakers sound tinny to me. Usually you will have more money tied up in the electric guitar and amp than you will in an acoustic. So if funds are limited, you may have to go the acoustic route.

Can I plug my electric guitar into my Denon Receiver?

No, you would need a microphone input ("Mic"). Even if it had one, it would be a bad idea. The high frequencies that the guitar can put out could blow the tweeters in your speakers if you overloaded the input or drove the amp into distortion. Also, a totally "clean" sound from an electric guitar usually sounds terrible.
I don't know if they are still available, but there used to be very low-powered FM transmitters that you could buy that you could plug an electric guitar into. You would set it to an unused frequency (no local radio station) on the FM band, and tune it in on your stereo receiver.

I want to play electric guitar. where do i start?

Hi...

Congrats on deciding to learn to play electric guitar. It's a rewarding and fun hobby and can lead to a lifetime of enjoyment.

To answer some of your questions, it would help to know what type of music you are into. This helps with the type and brand of guitar to buy. In general, you can't go wrong with Fender, Ibanez, or Jackson electric guitars and you can go on the cheaper end if just learning. For an amp, I'd recommend a Peavey, Crate, or the least expensive Marshall you can get ahold of. Most of these brands of Amps will have basic effects like distortion and chorus or delay built in to get you started. I wouldn't worry too much about effect pedals at this ponit.

To get started you have a couple of options. Local lessons or teaching yourself through a book, course, or videos. Lessons can work well for a beginner, but the problem is finding a local teacher and the cost can be quite high.

There are many online courses that can help you to learn the basics and are easy to follow. You'll learn how to tune by ear, basic chords and scales, and how to read music, which is important to learn in the beginning. You can use tab but that should be a quick way to learn new music and not the only way you can learn a song.

Learn how to play some easy songs and practice scales and chords. Speed will develop if you practice on a regular basis and you'll be able to take on more challenging songs. Good luck!

What is the length of a full size electric guitar?

when they talk about "full-size" or "3/4 size" guitars it is usually the scale length, which is the length of the strings from the nut to the saddle of the bridge that they are talking about: the length of the string that vibrates when you play.

on fender style guitars this length is 25.5" and typically on gibsons it's 24.75". either of these are considered "full size"

on 3/4 size guitars the scale length is shorter than 24", but usually in the 20" - 23". these guitars usually have smaller bodies that are proportionate to the neck, but not always.

gibson made the melody maker model that had either a standard full-size neck or a 3/4 size neck, but both with the same size body.

the 39" guitar listed (the fender starcaster) is a 25.5" scale guitar. the listing of the length of the whole guitar does make it confusing.

i disagree with the previous post that said this was the best of the lot. perhaps, he/she thought it said fender stratocaster, or maybe just got sucked in by the name "fender". while fender generally uses it name only on it's more professional guitars, this is not the case here. this guitar is not listed on the fender website. this guitar is most likely part of a value pack (guitar, amp, tuner, strap), and might be on par with the others listed (but it may not be...it might be less. i highly doubt it is any better, even with the fender name on it). it would be the last of the three on my list.

fender is the parent company of the squire brand.

all the guitars you posted above are the same size.

i hope this helps!

Can I learn how to play an electric guitar without having one? I don't know the basics.

Hi there! I am sorry to say this but you can’t do that. Guitar chords are collection of sound notes which makes the guitar produce pleasant sounds when a few notes are played together. If you try to learn ‘how to play the guitar chords’ by refering to some video tutorials on Youtube, you may understand how are fingers postioned on the fretboard for playing various chords. But, when you’ll take a guitar in your hand for the first time, you won’t be able to play the guitar chords as expected. You’ll end up having a pain in your fingertips and causing diminished sounds when you play the chords.Secondly, you won’t be really able to strum the guitar with a pick, as expected. You’ll not be able to hold the pick properly. You even may end up strumming the guitar too hard, which is not good for the guitar. This is just because your mind knows what is to be done, but your fingers aren’t familiar to do any of those things. So, the solution to this is, you buy a guitar and start practising on it. Initially, as practised by everyone, I won’t recommend you learning directly on the electric guitar. I would recommend you to buy an acoustic guitar first and practise on it for some time. How much time? well, that depends on how sincerely and frequently you do the practise.Once, you feel that you’ve mastered the acoustic guitar and you know how to play a variety of guitar chords, and you have acquired enough skills to play a guitar properly. You may shift up to an electric guitar.Another point is, electric guitars are a bit costly. Acoustic guitars aren’t way costlier as the electric ones. You may find a decent acoustic guitar for around Rs 4000(convert it into your national currency, if you aren’t an Indian). That’s all for now. If you want to know which brand of the guitar to be considered while buying? How to begin with playing the guitar? Which book to refer for learning the music theory? send me a message on Quora. I shall let you know everything. :)Cheers! :)
