I Drive A 1989 Ford Ranger The Other Day The Clutch Went To The Floor

Is it dangerous to drive with a bad wheel bearing?

A wheel bearing goes through several stages as it fails. First, you may hear a clicking while making turns. After that you may hear and feel a pulsing in the car, or a clicking while driving at low speeds. At this point, you MUST replace the bearing. It is extremely dangerous and you are putting your life at risk.A wheel bearing failure at high speed is one of the most fatal ways for a car to fail, so do not drive at high speeds until you can get the bearing repaired. On most cars, it will require a press or other specialty tools, so I would suggest taking your vehicle to a shop so that it is installed correctly. If you are familiar with the construction, function, and assembly of the bearing and axle it can be done at home.

Is it okay to drive your car without thermostats?

If you take out the thermostat then the coolant will just flow 100% by the water pump. Assuming that your system is properly sized so that cutting off flow with the thermostat will result in the proper operating temperature being met then running without a thermostat will always result in a lower than intended operating temperature. Here are some things that will happen:Your engine will run cooler than the desired temperature most all of the time andit will pollute more since it is tuned to run at the designed temperatureYour heater will take longer to become effective since the coolant is used to warm the heater core heat exchanger so you may, on cold days take longer to warm the cabin andmore importantly, it will take much longer to defrost the windshield using the defroster function.Probably it won’t hurt short term to the car engine itself, I don’t think. But in the long term operating it significantly below the designed temperature could have a number of effects, perhaps on lube viscosity, various carbon buildups that lead to other engine performance problems and possibly permanent damage.I once had a mechanic shop replace the thermostat and flush the coolant. When I get it back the car took forever to warm up the heater and get the engine to the temperature. I eventually took off the thermostat housing and found he had placed it about half way off and clamped it down with the housing out of position- it didn’t leak but the gap on one side pretty much made it free flowing.

How do I tighten Ford Escape manual trans linkage?

You may have to have a set of Rhino ramps and safety jack stands to be able to work under the car. But have a friend run through the gears while the car's parked and the hood is open so you can see the shift linkages move. At every connection point there should be nylon bushings that wear out and need replacing. You might need to remove a cotter pin to remove a bushing.

What car do you still own that has lasted forever with minimal maintenance?

I’ve owned well over 225 cars since I was 15 years old. The best… as far as low cost to own. As far as needing very few repairs… (I be only had two new cars and both of those were company cars. Everything I’ve owned… except for those two … has been used.)2000 Ford Rxplorer V8 AWD bought it in 2010 with 113,000 miles.for $3,200. It’s at 235,000 miles now. It has needed nothing except brakes tires and brake rotors. Powerful. Reliable. Safe. And the finest dtiveabilitybof any SUV on the road. Had I not ownedbit I would not have believed it.1993 Subaru SVX. Bought it used for $2,700. Finest sports car I’ve ever owned. Bought it with 126,000 miles in 2012. It’s at 188,000. Nothing except brakes and tires. Plus it is a AWD so I can use it in the winter. Very safe. Comfortable. Fast.1996 Lexus LS400. Quiet. Smooth. Silky. No finer luxury car has ever been made. Bought it in 2009 with 122,000 miles. It’s at 211,000 now. Tires and brakes. That’s all it’s needed. Wait. I put a timing belt on at 200,000. And water pump.1978 Datsun B210. Based on the English Austin. But better. Much much better. Tires. Brakes and a clutch plate. I was in Gillette and broke. The clutch went. Got a clutch disk from a werecking yard for $4. Installed only the disc. The car ran perfectly for another 120,000 miles and was working perfectly when I sold it.1976 Toyota Corolla. The small 1200cc engine. What a joy. Drive it to NYNY four times from Arizona. Great car. Never a problem.2002 Subaru Outback. Plus a 2000 Outback. Both have been hyper reliable. Both made in America. There are tons of good reliable used cars out there. Just gotta know which are good. Gottabonow ehoch are still like new at 100,000 miles and ready for another 150,000. And which age worn out and worthless at 100,000.Gotta know or your car owning experience can be dreadful. Exhausting. Costly.Stick with Toyota. Nissan. Honda. Ford. Chevy. Subaru. Suzuki. Buick. Yes there are many other reliable cars. But at least with these you know you will get reliability. Low cost. Piece of mind..

How can you tell when the rear end is going out?

Well, you can change the gear oil yourself... NOTE: mobile is better than royal purple, i pulled the MSDS-material safety data sheet on them. Surprising, a lot of the rears, has a drain plug and a fill plug that allows you to do it yourself. Change that rear fluid. See what happens. Hard to say with the info u gave what ur problem is. But u can change the fluid urself. Most just require u to stick the ratchet in their (no socket) for the drain/fill plugs. others are a big allen key.
