I dropped something really hard on my foot and now my toe looks like this. Should I just leave it to heal or go to the doctor?
Am a nurse. I worked years in the urgent care. We have seen many of this.Depending on how hard the object (and how heavy it is), the bone in your toe may not have broken, or cracked. But what is happening is that you’ve hematoma, which is basically a bruise. Normally it’s not a big deal, but you’re bleeding under the toe nail-that is causing the pain.Eventually your toe nail may fall off (but it will sooner or later grow back).To relieve the “pressure” under the toe nail, a doctor will use a paperclip (I am not kidding about this), and quickly poke a hole in it. You’re asking how in the world? He’d light it with a lighter first (until it glows red from the heat). This is not something you should do yourself as it is like trying to give yourself a shot, or draw blood from one’s own arm.At the urgent care that I worked, we use this http://www.liveactionsafety.com/...They will certainly x-ray it to see if the bone of the toe is broken. But guess what? You won’t get a cast or put into one. They will “buddy tape” it. You can use a scotch tape and tape it to the next toe. This will stabilize it.Do not wear regular shoes until you’re healed. Normally you’d be wearing an “ortho” shoe (it’s ugly as hell) on that foot. But really, a good sandel will do. Regular shoe (dress shoe, tennis shoe) will be too tight (to put on and off).Keep the foot elevated and if this is ‘fresh’ injury, ice it. It will help with swelling. If it’s a few days, heat will help with the bruise.For pain - tylenol / advil will do.We had a patient who dropped a bowling ball on his big toe when he was home (no shoes on). Cut with a rusty nail, what should I do?
Wash the cut with soap and warm water. Actually some bleeding is good, as it can help wash microbes out of the wound. It's stinging because there are a lot of nerve ends in your hands and fingers. After you wash the cut, hold your finger up above your heart level and apply pressure with a clean cloth for about 3 minutes. This should stop the bleeding. Then apply a band-aid and tell your mother what happened when she gets home. Rusty nails do not cause tetanus. Tetanus usually exists in dirt that is contaminated by animal feces. If you have had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years, you should be protected anyway.
Can we travel with a sealed bottle of whisky in Delhi metro?
A friend of mine did travel with the sealed bottle in Metro and reached home safely. It was festive season and road were blocked due to traffic jam.He wanted to reach home with this bottle and celebrate at earliest, it was evening time. So he boarded from HUDA Metro Station in Gurgaon. It’s crazy here during festive seasons, so all he had to do is to ensure that his bag is covered with other bags under the X-Ray scanner. It was a crazy day and CISF guard completely missed to notice “the bottle” on his screen.My friend wouldn’t have been able to do so during normal days, but because of most of us who create ruckus for no good reason and always trying to push others in queue to get ahead. Protecting oneself?
One of the best ways to protect yourself is to make sure your shield is in place. Go your quiet meditation (however you go about it). Then invision a shimmering globe of white light coming from your third eye and surrounding you, standing about 12 inches away from your body. This will allow you to direct your usual energy out but will repel the negative. Once you do not need it any longer be sure to release the energy back to the universe. How much do BB guns hurt? Can someone be genuinely injured from a BB gun?
How much does it hurt? Well, I had an idiot “friend” shoot me in the toe with one and, for the first few seconds it didn’t hurt, until it really started to hurt! The BB had entered in through the side of my toe, the 2nd toe right below the nail, and wedged itself between meat and bone. It started to throb and burn from sweat. The only thing that kept it from throbbing so bad was the raise my toe, but that caused a different kind of pain. My neighbor’s Dad gave me alcohol and a straight razor, per my request, and I attempted to cut it out; it was simply too deep. All attempts to remove it myself proved fruitless so I finally went to my father to let him know; which almost ended in a showdown between the guy that gave me the razor and my father.We went to the doctor and they shoved a long needle into the tip of my toe to deaden it, which hurt worse than the BB, and cut it the rest of the way out. There was no need for stitches.Harmless objects can cause injury at the right speed, so a weapon designed to hurl a small ball at high velocity is definitely capable of doing damage.Even though what I experienced sucked, the mention of a BB gun produces a totally different mental images than what I experienced….[Side Note] If you don’t know what the images above are from then your childhood was kinda sad!
