Why do people fail Drug tests?
I failed a drug test once when I was starting a new job a few years ago.I get migraine headaches a lot, and living in Florida doesn’t help that. Normally I take Claritin-D and am fine, and take an Excedrin Migraine when needed.My wife and I were at her friend’s house. This particular evening, I had the mother of all migraines. I didn’t have the Excedrin Migraine with me, but my wife’s friend had some medication for me. The migraine went away fast, and all was good.A few days later comes my drug test. I tested positive for a barbiturate, a controlled substance.The lab asked me if I had a prescription for a barbiturate. Nope, I didn’t. They asked me if I had taken anything for a migraine.Oh yeah, my wife’s friend gave me a Fioricet when we were over at her house. Taking controlled substances without a prescription is illegal. I wasn’t thinking about that. With a migraine, I’m not thinking of anything except the migraine.So I had to wait a week I think, take the drug test again after the barbiturate had cleared my system, and then start the job. They seemed to understand the situation, and knew that Fioricet isn’t something that people take to get stoned.Still, they could have not hired me. The lab could have made an issue out of it.But to answer the question, sometimes people fail drug tests because they just weren’t thinking.
Why did I fail the drug test?
NSAID's like Ibuprofen can produce false positives for THC. If you have taken any OTC or prescription analgesics in that class, it could be the cause. Some test providers acknowledge this, others don't Unfortunately, your avenues of recourse are slim. If this position is really that valuable to you will need to go to an independent lab and receive a GCMS test. This test is prohibitively expensive and very few employers use it. Don't feel bad that the test provider wouldn't grant you a retest. In all likelihood it would have just delivered another false positive and you would look even worse.

Demand a retest of your sample using Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). This is the “gold standard” for drug detection, and will discriminate between drugs of abuse and the various OTC or other substances that the initial tests will often flag as suspicious.Secondly, you can get politically active and help the fight AGAINST the War on Drugs, which forces people to pee into little cups in the first place. And tell the corporate piss-sniffers that the only samples you are going to provide in the future are for a taste test!
Can you fail a drug test if you've never smoked meth?

My boyfriend failed a drug test now what?
Been there, done that, with my daughter. Don't give me that crappola, he took the drugs unless you forced him to, he's responsible for his own life as you are for yours. Dump this jerk before he gets you in this same junk pile he's in. If he was serious about shaking the habit, he would have by now. Stop making excuses for him by blaming the probie, she's doing her job. My friend who's a Federal Probie would have had him in cuffs five minutes after he failed the test and so would I have, that's what it's for. I'm sure there's a warrant out for him. He'd better check with the local Gendarmes and see if they are looking for him, tell them the story and see what they have to say. If they have to go looking for him, it's only going to make it worse. In the meantime, take a look at your own life and what's happening to it. is it really worth it to hang on to this bum ?
Failed drug test and I have never done drugs in my life?
Yesterday I took a drug test for a great company who recently hired me. They say I had a postive result for pcp. The thing is I have never taken drugs in my entire life..never. I am not even around anyone who does pcp or anything to that nature. The company fired me yesterday because of this. I contacted the drug testing center and I told them that there had been a huge mistake where somone tampered with my urine or mistakely got my urine mixed uo with someone elses. All day I have been going back and forth from this place trying to get some answers. They are giving me the run around and are avoiding my situation. They said they did not make a mistake. I need help with this bc it is really stressing me out knowing I got fired yesterday for being on drugs and I am not on any drugs and never have taken any. I am not on any medication at all. What should I do? Can I take legal actions for this? Please help
I failed a drug test and I don't do drugs...What can I do?
I took some over the counter meds the morning of, I think that caused a false positve. The lab told me that's not possible. I told them it's not possible that I have Illegal drugs in my system. Does anyone think the employer would let me take the test again? I think this whole situation is ridiculous. But what can I do to clear my name?
Would one hit of marijuana make me fail a drug test?
Michael brings up some very valid points. You should listen to him. As for the passing the test, if it was a one time hit and one time use, you should pass and here is why. Marijuana has a half-life in your system. How long it takes to leave your system depends on how much you smoke. But the time maxes out at around 45 days. One smoking session for someone with a clean system takes about 3-4 days to be clean. Smoke 2 days later and then have to wait about a week, and so on. The time it will take roughly doubles every time you smoke until it maxes at about 45 days to be clean. So if you are maxed out and you wait about 2 weeks and then smoke again, you're basically back to 45 days. Marijuana can be detected in urine for nearly a week after smoking. Blood tests can be more accurate, and it might take a month to be totally clear. Hair tests show every drug ever taken when that hair was growing - this is why you see so many drug addicts with shaved heads or buzz cuts, by the way. Also by the way: taking laxatives and drinking wacky chemicals won't "cheat" a drug test. It will just make you go to the bathroom! These drug tests are designed by experts who anticipate what the drug user might do. Be very careful of "remedies" for getting around drug tests. They flat out do not work and could do damage to your body.
Can you fail a drug test if you smoked but did not get high?
I smoked weed for the second time yesterday and did not get high because I don't think I did it right and I didn't really inhale it but it was two whole blunts. I have a job interview at McDonalds Monday. I don't know when and if I will need to take a drug test. But my question is if I do, will I pass it since I didn't get high? If not, when would I be able to pass it? I asked a question similar to this earlier but only got one reply
