I adopted a puppy, 4 month old, healthy (except a few ticks in ear) and was a stray. How a puppy of that age become stray and how did he survive in wild?

My family adopted Casey at what we estimate between 6–8 months old. She was found shortly before by a rescue society who said she was the “easiest catch” because she ran right to them, happy for affection. Casey, too, was healthy with some mess on her fur.Our guesses for why she was a strayShe was abandoned (who would abandon a sweetheart like her, I don’t wanna know)She ran away (her obsession with rabbits is insanity for us)It’s possible either scenario applies to your new pup. If the dog is shy/unsure around humans, it’s possible it might’ve been born a stray. However the odds are it was abandoned or ran off.Seriously, who could abandon this sweetie?

Help! 4-5 week old kitten infested with ticks!?

Please bring your little kitty to the vet ASAP as ticks can literaly suck the life out the poor, helpless little thing. Whatever you do, do NOT use flea and tick stuff you buy from a store as the chemicals in those bottles are way too strong for a kitten that young and can actually do more harm than good. The same is true for a flea and tick collar, it is too strong for a young kitten. Plus, if the kitten was abandoned, he may be malnurished and the chemicals plus the ticks could really do harm. I took in a young cat last summer who was infested with fleas and was anemic from all the blood loss. With a special diet and lots of TLC, she came back around in about a month. I hope you can save your little friend. Take care and God bless.

Pugs: What is the best way to get rid of ticks permanently?

We used Protektor and D-Tick Spot on for our pug. We only started using after he turned 6 months old. Prior to that he was not allowed near street dogs and we would do a comb over on him and use medicated wipes after every walk. We had a couple of street dogs that used to visit our apartment just to play with our pug. We actually dusted both the street dogs with anti tick and anti flea powder. I would highly suggest to not let your dog run around with un vaccinated dogs. Once there is a tick/flea infestation its difficult to get rid of. We got it only once when we first let our pug around other dogs ( always supervised and on a lead). And we used the spot on treatments which cost about 400-450 INR I think. We did it about every month and threw out his old bed/pillows etc cos its difficult to get rid of the nits. You can also use an anti tick spray but have to be vey careful that it does not go into the eyes. Our pug was always indoors (except the nightly walks), so the ticks went of away really fast. One more option is to use an anti tick collar (along with a spot on treatment) or anti tick shampoos. Once the ticks went away we kept a mainly preventative measure. Also if you do find a tick, never kill it by hand (always burn it by a matchstick).

How do I get rid of fleas from my 7-month-old beagle?

Ticks and fleas come from the environment in which your dog lives and plays. So the most important thing to do is to get your house pest controlled. You will need to get a professional fumigator to come and clear your house of ticks and fleas. The process needs to be repeated every 21-28 days to break the birth cycle. Keep your dog out of the house on the day of pest control. On a regular basis, bathe him with a mild anti tick/flea shampoo- there are some good herbal varieties you could check out. Use a flea collar.

How do you remove ticks from a dog?

Hi!Jose He - founder of something or other, has a very good answer for you! It’s mostly excellent, but I’d like to add a few things.Firstly, you shouldn’t flush the tick down the toilet. If you or your dog was bitten by a tick, stick in on a piece of tape and fold the tape over. The tape suffocates the tick, and then you can save it. If, in the next month, you start feeling flu-like symptoms, you can go to the doctor (for you) or the vet (for your dog) and bring the tick with you. Different ticks carry different diseases, and your vet will be able to identify which tick bit you!Symptoms may appear up to four weeks, which is a month. That’s important to know! I would go a few days over the month mark just to be safe!In addition to the traditional flu-like symptoms (which are typical of lymes disease), keep your eyes peeled for bruises and sudden rashes on your dog’s skin! Rocky mountain spotted fever is another major tick born disease that often gets overlooked.Depending on the area you live in, you may want to get a tick-titer. These are tests that will check for tick-borne diseases on your dog. If you live in the US in the northeast or upper southeast, then ticks are an epidemic in your area and a lot of them carry diseases because this area is overpopulated with white-footed mice, which is where Lymes disease comes from. Tick-titers can only be taken 14 days after the bite has occurred, or they might yield false negatives!Monthly flea preventative is, of course, very important! It’s super expensive if you buy it from a vet, but you can get it much cheaper at a place like Sierra Pet Meds.Bravecto is a really popular brand, and kind of the new “Frontline” which had been popular back in the day. Their Bravecto products are here : Dogs & Puppies - Bravecto - Page 1 - Sierra Pet MedsSome people choose not to give their dogs flea and tick medication during the winter, but if you live in the areas I mentioned above - like New York, Maryland, Virginia, or that general area, you MUST keep your dog on flea/tick preventative year round! Don’t listen to the internet nazis that tell you it will kill your dog or something - I promise you, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever will kill your dog much faster! I grew up in New York, and it’s an epidemic where we live! It’s very dangerous in our area, and people need to be informed so that they know to protect their pets!

My cat [may have] consumed flea/tick medication?

I put flea and tick prevention medication on my cat tonight and it looks like he had been licking it? I put it on exactly as it said on the box and it looks like he was able to reach it and lick it. Will my cat be okay? Hes acting fine right now, hes just running around and playing as normal.
