I Fractured My Ankle And I Have To Wear A Boot When Can I Take It Off

So how long does it take a fractured foot to heal?

you broken your METATARSALS (there are 5--one for each toe--imagine that!).

You only need the boot to walk--not 24/7.
It will take about 3-4 weeks, if you are lucky.

How long does a minor ankle fracture take to heal?

I just posted this for another person....that's funny. At your age bone heals in about 6 to 8 weeks. It is a little different for some bones that need less and some need more. Because you put weight on your ankle for walking they have to be sure it has healed fully before the cast can come off. (on the other hand with some bones within the foot they let you walk on even sooner)

....so basic answer is 6-8 weeks. Do you know what bone was broken and the location? I might be able to give you a better answer.

Should my daughter sleep in her air cast for a fractured ankle?

Yes. She needs to sleep in the air cast. I had one about 2 years ago and trust me..you never sleep without it because if you do then you could lean on it wrong or hit it accidentally, though after a few days / about a week you can take it off gently and put your foot on something padded and soft. As long as she doesn't move it / twist /stand on it while the cast is off she should b alright. And if your still worried about her hurting it while the cast is off, then let her take a bath and remove the cast. the water provides extra support without applying too much pressure. Hope this helps and if u have anymore questions about it just E-mail me at Unluckie_Pirate@yahoo.com :)

When a foot fracture is healing, is swelling without pain normal after 6 weeks?

It depends on what bone was broken, how it was treated ( cast, external fixation, pins, internal fixation, etc.). It is ultimately a question for an X-ray. If the bone(s) have healed and the swelling is aling the fracture line, that is called a panus, it is a normal part of healing. If it is global swelling with dark discoloration in the mist gravity dependent parts it might not be a good thing. Painless is good unless the fracture or repair damaged a nerve or you have a condition that impairs the ability of the nerves to sense pain. I would get an X-ray and see how the site is healing. Less use is better until you get the OK for partial (toe touch with crutches) or nonweightbearing or normal use. A failed healing of a fracture is always bad but a nonunion of a foot fracture is REALLY painful. Get seen, better to know for sure.

I am recovering from ankle fracture surgery & I'd like to know, can I take my boot off my foot when going to bed?

Most likely, the answer is no. These days, when it becomes safe to take it off, the doctor will tell you to. They try to mimimize the time your limb is imobilized to reduce atrophy. But you can definitely refracture or worsten a bone while sleeping, so you need to consult you doctor before doing so.

Broken ankle and walking boot?

Well there are two options. I have had experience with both a walking boot and a cast. When I broke my ankle they casted it but I had a walking cast. It is basically the general cast they put on you but the nice thing about this one is that you can walk crutch-free. They give you a little shoe thing for the foot part just so it doesn't get dirty. It was great especially since mine was also waterproof. I had it on for five weeks and after I was able to go to practice the very next day without even a brace. Then I Grade 3 sprained my other ankle and they gave me a walking boot. It worked well and I had it on for three weeks. That was nice too since it could come on an off. You can get a walking boot for a broken ankle you would just have to wear it for a longer period of time versus the cast. Ask your doctor if he does walking casts because not all of them do. Also not all doctors do water proof casts because they are more expensive. Hope that helped. :)

Do you wear a boot to bed after breaking your foot?

It depends on what kind of break you had. There are lots of foot injuries, some require the boot all the time, others don’t. If you break a toe, for instance, you will have no treatment for it.When I completely tore my Achilles into two pieces,After surgery, I had to wear a “lying cast” which meant I couldn’t walk at all, and that cast was on for over a month before I got another cast I could sort of walk in, and finally the boot.If you break more than one bone, the Dr. is going let you know whether you can expect good healing if taking your boot off while (trying) to sleep.

Why does my broken ankle hurt worse in my walking boot than without it?

I twisted my ankle outside Tuesday night and the x-rays showed no break. Had a CT scan done Thursday morning and I have a non-displaced avulsion fracture of my posterior tibia. My family physician gave me an order for a half-height walking boot (mid-calf, not all the way to the knee) which I filled yesterday and have been wearing since. I'm not supposed to see the orthopedic specialist until Tuesday morning.

When I wear the boot I am not putting any weight on it. When I move my leg to situate myself or when I'm on my crutches, my ankle feels like it can still move left and right within the boot and it KILLS and hurts much worse than when I'm not wearing the boot at all. In fact, I had to take the boot off to sleep last night because I could feel my ankle bending inside again when I lay on my side to sleep, whereas I feel no pain at all if I lay on my side without the boot.

Any suggestions or advice? The boot is as tight as I can possibly made it and feels nice and snug.

Why are army soldiers made to wear boots when they are more restrictive of movement and more uncomfortable over long periods than lower-trim shoes?

The type of foottware is on the change within a lot of armies. There have been several trials and medical studies conducted by various organistaions over wether high cut combat boots actually provide good and proper ankle support. Within our Defence Force, Brits/Aussies and many European nations they have found wearing a low cutout boot actually strengths the ankle and lower leg. This has now lead to the provision of a variety of boots that can fulfill your specific job requirements. DANNERS, MENDALS, MAGNUMS all provide a variety of low cut boots.
