I Get Sharp Intermittent Chest Pain Usually In The Left Side Of My Rib Cage. What Could It Be

Sharp pains on left side of my chest?

Heart is in the center of the chest, behind the breastbone (sternum).

If its on the left side, I would think something besides the heart.

If you press on it, does it make the pain worse? And if it does, is it a lot harder to breathe?

If it gets worse but not harder to breathe, I would think a severe muscle pull or damage to the muscles there. With rest it should go away.

If it gets harder to breathe, you may need a doctor anyway. It could be a problem in the lung, or more likely a broken rib bone. A broken rib bone would need to be set, and can be dangerous if it breaks into a point so close to so many major organs (lungs, heart, stomach). It could pierce one or more of those major organs, so you should definitely get it looked at if that is the case.

Recurring sharp chest pain (left side)?

for over a year i have had chronic pain in one side of my chest. It is most severe under physical strain but can surface any time i have a thought of stressful situations.

The pain is mostly at the front but sometimes internal, sometimes extending all along the lower side of my ribcage of the left side also internally, and sometimes into my back and spine always through the left side.

I suffered a major anxiety attack due to the dabilitating pain that overcame me while i was at work and during the attack experienced numbness of the face and hands as well as a sharp and panicked heartrate that was excruciating.

I have seen doctors many times about this pain along with a shortness of breath which at times came to feel as though i could not breathe at all and i was unable to sleep for disturbingly lengthy periods of time.

I am told every time by doctors that it is psychological and a three times daily dose of half milligrams of klonopin fixed the problem but i was told i shouldnt take klonopin daily and was given an antidepressant which exaserbbated the feelings. At my request i was given buspar which has worked wwonders for my general daily anxiety but the sharp jabbing and stabbing pain continues to appear frequently throughout every day.

I wont have an appointment with a psychiatrist for a month and a half but it may not be until then that anxiety can be ruled out as the sole cause. I am worried i may have to quit my job abruptly if it worsens particularly during harsh winter months in which ill still have to walk to work five days a week.

What suggestions do you have for me to ask the doctors once i have seen the psychiatrist and am able to convince them my pain is real? My only option is a cheaper clinic that sees hundreds of patients every week so i may need to give them a little more to work with than the expensive doctors with premium insurance

Sharp pains on my left rib cage that shoots up my neck when i breath.?

You have pinched nerves in your back causing those pains. When you move your spine it pinches the nerves harder to send more pain up your back. Back pains are often sent around the body on the nerves to be pains in the rib, chest or heart areas. When nerves get pinched they tighten up the muscles around them to trap them in that pain. To get rid of the pain you have to free up your back muscles to release the nerve and here's how to free them up:
Back:
(do while sitting)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
It's hard to know if it was just the back pains going into the neck or if the neck muscles were also giving you pains, so here's how to free them up to take care of any pain they may give, it will feel good if nothing else:
Neck Release:
Place your hands behind your head touching your fingers. Press into the back of your neck with them and hold the pressure on them. After 45 seconds slowly lower your head until your neck is fully extended. Release the pressure but hold your head there for another 30 seconds. For both- for best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
