If I'm 16 and only have my school ID, where can I cash my check?
Usually a drivers license or a state-issued ID with a local address on it is required to cash a check. For this reason a military ID or passport won’t necessarily work, but may depending on where you cash it. A student ID is generally never considered a legal ID.Rather than cashing the check, it might be better just to deposit the check with your smartphone with your bank’s app by taking a picture of it. You could also sign the back and have someone else deposit the check (preferably a parent or relative with the same last name) and give you the cash. This will also avoid any check cashing fees.
Where can I cash a check without an ID?
No one will cash the check for you if you present the check yourself. If you endorse or sign the check over to anyone, you may risk the chance that the bank cashing the check may require ID (or a copy of the ID from the person not present) from both parties, i.e you and the person you signed it over to, negotiating the check. There are a couple of ways around not having to present and ID:1. If you are a minor, your parents or guardians can negotiate the check for you. All they would have to say is that you are a minor and you are their child.2. The maker (the person signing the front of the check or the owner of the account the check is drawn from) can negotiate the check. 3. If an employee can positively identify you at the financial institution that you are cashing the check it may be possible. However, you either must have an account there or the check you are trying to negotiate must be drawn from an account there. Hope this helps, Miguel

A government ID requires a birth certificate (for the initial license) as proof of identity, plus usually some valid with your photo on it.It's a little bit like getting your first job; how are you supposed to get experience, if nobody hired you yet in order to get that experience? You have to prove who you are before you can prove who you are.

How can a minor without a photo ID cash a check?
He can sign it over to an adult, as in "pay to the order of ________ and then he endorses it under that. You won't be able to write "Pay to the order of cash as someone suggested. I suggest he sign it over to one of his parents as he'll have no recourse if he's ripped off by an older friend. The adult can cash it for him at their bank or anywhere else that will cash a check.
