I Got A Job At Rent A Center And I Rent Items From There How Will It Work

How does Rent-A-Center work?

It works just like a loan, but the very high interest compounds weekly instead of monthly. It's something you do only if you have to. You pay a lot more than the $650. They make their money by selling cheap (off brand) stuff (or obsolete stuff) at high prices with high interest - look at total of payments, not just the weekly amount...

Rent a center?

How does rent a center work? Is there a credit check? Do you have to pay a large deposit or a huge amount for the first time? Or do you just go and pick what you want, give them your info and start makin payments?

Can rent a center sue me for value of stolen items?

I recently rented a computer from rent a center. About 5 days later, someone gained access to my house and stole it. Police say it is someone that has been at my house before. Got in the house without breaking the door. Same police officer that did the police report, had just pulled me over about 15 minutes before i got home. I was walking home.
Well, i call rent a center, and they said that since there is no forced entry, that i am still responsible for the payments. I have police report. I only paid 2 weeks payments for the desktop computer.
Can rent a center still pursue civil or legal action against me? Please help me with an answer. Thank you sincerely, Jeremy. P

How does Rent a Center work?

For the amount of 2 months RENT you could BUY a better quality used item.

For example, I bought a pair of Bose speakers at a used CD store. $15.

I bough s Sealty pillowtop, full size mattress, and matching box spring at a used furniture store. $99.

If you can delay the gratification for a couple of months, you'll end up ahead, with no interest!

Can Rent A Center press charges?

I went to RAC to get a bed. I was paying for it and ran into some financial difficulties. I told them from day 1 not to call my job, because I work in a call center and do not have an extension - I cannot take personal calls at work. After I fell behind, they started flooding my phone with calls. I also told them that I work during their business hours and the best day to reach me is Fridays, which they've been doing up until this point. They would call and leave approximately 3-5 messages a day. Even when I was late before, I would call and make acceptable arrangements with one person, and a few hours later someone else would start calling my phone several times. They claim they work together, but clearly they don't, as someone else will start hounding you and lie and say "oh, I'm sorry, I overlooked the notes". BS. Now, they are coming to my house, which is fine. But the thing is, I don't live alone. I live with my mother, who used to live alone. She told me they come every day and start pounding on the doors and constantly ringing the doorbells. She does not know who it is until she peaks outside after they've stopped and sees the RAC note on the door. She told me one time they ambushed her and her friend leaving the house, and told them all of my personal business. They told her they will be pressing charges against me if I don't pay my debt or return the merchandise. I am highly embarrassed and upset. Why are they discussing my personal information with 3rd parties? And why are they threatening me with charges?
Now it is my understanding that the FDCPA does not apply to the original creditor, but there has to be some type of guidelines they have to follow. I also know that they cannot press charges or have me arrested, because I did not steal their merchandise. Their "theft by conversion" does not apply to me. I was almost paid off when I fell behind. I made every attempt to come up with the money, and have paid on time. Theft by conversion is receiving property with the intent to steal it. Can they file any other charges against me?
Now you are probably wondering why I am not returning the merchandise? It is a small bed, which I need. Plus, I planned to get back on track, until the harassment started. This is clearly harassment, and I know they are not authorized to discuss my personal business matters with 3rd parties that are in no way related to this business matter.
What can they do, and what can I do?

What happens if I don't pay Rent a Center?

They'll start calling you for the payment. Failing that, they start calling your references to get you to make your payment. Then they might start contacting your employer. If you still haven't made your payment, they'll start showing up at your home at different times of the day and night to either get their payment or collect their merchandise. This all happens within the space of the first week of you being a delinquent. They want to either square your account or get their merchandise back as quickly as possible. Eventually you'll be served papers to appear in court. At this point the judge will probably order you to pay immediately. I'm sure that by then returning the merchandise is out of the question since once it comes time for court it's only about money. Plus, they've already given you ample opportunity to return it, and you refused. If you can't pay immediately the judge may order your employer to garnish your wages until it's paid off. Finally, by now your credit is totally destroyed. Rent-A-Center was literally your last chance at obtaining credit. Good luck getting anyone to take a chance on you now.

What can rent-a-center do if I'm 3 weeks late on a payment?

Harass you multiple times per day via phone and home visit, plus calling all your references twice a day and your work twice a day. It’s best to make contact with them and explain the situation, then set up either a payment arrangement or return the items you can’t afford.

What are the requirements for rent-a-center?

Hi -If you are asking what are the typical requirements for rent-to-own purchases at rent-a-center, they are typically:A verifiable source of income (they do contact the employer you list on your application, not sure if they require paystubs, but I believe they did.)A verifiable address (They will contact the person you list as your landlord. I don’t recall if they required a copy of my lease. I believe they also required a utility bill, and I believe a cell phone bill to the address was sufficient.)References (They contacted one of three I listed.)Payment for the first period, or couple periods, I honestly forget - but I know it was for at least the first period. In essence, they will do whatever they need to confirm that they will receive their payments for their overpriced items, and all their items are overpriced. If you miss a payment, they will do a drill down of your listed references - all of them - if they can’t get through to you, including your landlord, employer and all personal references you listed. Several times each if needed to “gently” remind you to make payment - as they really don’t want to go through the process of repossessing their items, as they have no idea what condition they will be in. Further - if they do repossess, they will resell as “used” - similar to if you willfully return the items, and you will be responsible for the difference in price, if they need to sue…they have no issue doing so.Hope this helps.

Rent A Center pressing charges!?

When companies think that a customer is not going to pay a lawful debt, then they sell the debt to a collection agency, or turn it over to the collection department. From then on, the customer needs to deal with the collection department or agency.

What probably happened is that you didn't bother to notify RAC that you couldn't make your payments, right? You didn't communicate with them at all? They were within their rights to regard you as a deadbeat, and to get tougher.

The collection agency or department will probably contact you pretty soon, and you'll have to pay off your debt. And your credit rating is going to really take a hit.

My advice for the future is to avoid renting from these places. They rent to people who can't get credit elsewhere, and their prices and interest rates and fees are outrageous. This might mean that you can't get everything you want, right when you want it, especially if your only income is babysitting. You need to learn how to save your money for larger purchases, rather than buying everything on credit. For instance, my daughter just bought a top of the line laptop yesterday, and was able to pay for it completely at the time of purchase. This is because she lives within her means.

Can Rent-A-Center call the police and send them to my house?

Yes. If you have their property amd you're not paying you are stealing from them. One of my renters had the police show up to arrest him but he “found” money to pay the overdue period and they took the furniture back so he didn't go to jail. You need to pay them.I refused to renew his lease after learning this, so this guy had no apartment, a dark stain on credit and he wasn't getting a good rental reference either.Pay your bill and return the pieces if you can't afford it but dont think you will get furniture for free.
