I Got My Ear Pierced One Week Ago And My Left Ear Is Swollen Red And It Hurts. I Think Is

Ears pierced 4 weeks ago. Now one ear is swollen?

Technically, you can get infections in piercings no matter how long they've been healed: they're a hole in your body and can become infected just like your throat can when you get a cold.

But after 4 weeks, it may not be fully healed anyway.

Ibuprofen or Tylenol will reduce the swelling. To help with the infection, I'd suggest soak it in the saline solution that is sold for cleaning contacts lenses, at least twice a day, for 15-20 minutes. Sound bothersome? So is an infected ear, so find some way to do it. Either that or gently clean it with a mild antibacterial soap twice a day. But if it gets the least bit worse, or more swollen, DO go to the doctors for antibiotics.

And do not take the earrings out, either. It's a shame you can't, because the earrings used by Claires in their piercing guns are of very poor quality metal and are not safe to be used for the time during which the hole is healing. But if you take them out while you have an infection, the hole could close up and trap the infection inside your ear lobe. At least with the hole there, it will have a chance to drain if necessary.

You MUST be VERY diligent about cleaning it, and always listen to your body. And please, the next time you want something pierced, go to an actual, professional piercer. Claires is crap, and their tools are unsafe.

And yes, the pressure from the phone could irritate a healing lobe, and may have been the source of the infection. Be careful that you don't rest the phone against you ear lobe until it's well healed.

Good luck. (:

I got my ear lobe pierced a week ago and now it’s swollen, kind of warm, and it hurts. Should I panic?

I would not panic, but I also wouldn't let all worry out of my head. I will alway recommend seeing a physician if your piercing gets swollen and warm. Yes, it could resolve on its own. But with piercings, an infection can go from being a little warm and swollen to filled with pus and swollen three times larger in just a few hours. If you go to the doctor now, it's easily fixed. You take some preventative antiobiotics, or you get treatment for an allergy and it's over. If you don't, it may pass on its own. Or it can become so infected you need surgery . Google “infected ear piercing.” The smallest irritation can turn into a nightmare. So, why not do the easy thing and have it looked at by a doctor while there's not much to worry about? It could save your ear.I have 18 ear piercings, and three other piercings. I had never gotten an infection until my very last one, my 18th ear piercing. Like you, it was just a little red, and a little warm. There was also just one small drop of pus. I went to the urgent care, and the doctor couldn't stress enough how glad he was I came. He had all kinds or stories about all kinds of terrible infections. He said it didn't look bad, but that I needed antibiotics anyway. He gave me the antibiotics and cleaning instructions. The first antibiotics didn't work, so I got a different kind. And voila, nothing to worry about.People will argue that we shouldn't take so many antibiotics, and that it makes us immune to them. And that's true. But they will use that as a reason not to go to the doctor, and in that, they are completely wrong. You ARE supposed to take antibiotics for infections, and to prevent them. Antibiotics are for infections, and only a doctor can decide if you don't need antibiotics. This would be the right time to take them, if the doctor decides you need them.If you decide not to follow my advice, which I don't recommend (piercers and doctors agree with me), do NOT clean you piercing with hydrogen peroxide. Alcohol and peroxide damage the tissue in cuts (a piercing is a cut), and prolong healing. Use plain, non-scented soap and warm water to gently clean the piercing twice a day, and use triple-antibiotic ointment after you do. Take your temperature several times a day. If you have a fever, if you see pus, if it starts swelling more, go to the doctor. No arguments. But, really: go now.Good luck with your piercing, and at the doctor's.

My fourth earlobe piercing is swollen and red?

i just got my 2nd earhole piercing and the left side's ok but the ride side's gone red and goopy. i lost the alcohol solution they gave me for the ear so i'm just cleaning it with clean hands every day. i left the goopy thing there and its now sort of formed like a crust (yuck!) arnd the hole and its sorta healing on its own. i think i'm on my way to recovery. i'm gg to leave the yucky crust there covered behind my ear stud and once its healed, i'm assuming its gg to fall off. it its red, i'de suggest washing with sea salt and warm water (althoguh one of the girls suggested iodised salt??) i've known pple who have skin infections and go take a dip in the sea to clean out the skin surface... so sea salt is what i use sometimes.

i've also read somewhere that some pple are alergic to earrings with nickel in them maybe your'e one of them. buy nickel free earrings and if all else fails, go bck to the store and ask them for help. or go to the doc. good luck wiit it. when u pick best answers, pls let us know how your ear feels. take care and hope i helped!

Why is my ear piercing swollen after 6 weeks?

I got both my ears pierced for the first time 6 weeks ago. The piercer put in the captive ball hoops in, so the only way to really get them out is to go back and pay the $5 to get my studs put in. Well, through 4 and a half weeks, everything was fine. Then, one day, my left ear started swelling up a little. Now, my left ear (lobe) has swollen up a decent size, and is a little sore, however, there are no more of the "crusties" around the outside, nor is any puss or anything emitting from the hole itself. Any suggestions to get the swelling down, at least enough to go get them switched out for my stud so i can take care of the hole itself?

My cartilage piercing is red & swollen?

Ok so exactly a week ago , I got my cartilage piercing . You kno ? A stud on my top left ear . It was all good but I believe on like 4th day , my ear on the top got red & swollen . It doesn't hurt that much when I touch the piercing but it hurts when I move my ear . I remember I got bored in class & started to twirl the jewelry around with my hands unwashed :( . Anyways , it's a little warm like when I touch it & compare the temp. To the ear with the piercing to the one un pierced one , it's only a tiny bit warmer . So idk , is it infected & if so how do I un-infect it (?) or if it's not infected , how can I make the redness & swelling go down . Oh. I also forgot to mention that the place were I got it pierced didn't give me a cleaning solution or anything so I've cleaned it with rubbing alcohol & table salt mixed with water or I clean it with a cotton swab . Yea , can some body help ? :(

Cartilage Piercing Red & Swollen?!?

did you get them pierced witha gun or a needle? if its a gun maybe thats hwy. but if you got them done with a needle it is alwso normal they are only 4 days old. and wioll be red and swollen for a week.. using a MILD anti bacterial soap is okay... did they tell you abotut he sea salt soaks? take a look at this linkl and do these once a day (preferably at the end of the night) for 15 minutes at a time.. yes you will have to stick the side of your head in the solution as cotton and paper towels can leave lint and cause the piercing more problems.. also what kind of jewelry is in your ears now? studs if so go to a pierce shop and have then changed to a captive bead ring, circular barbell of a straight of curved barbell as these are better jewelry choices for those piercing ( i have learned that from a bad experience) but do the sea salt soaks. they will sooth with the pain and aid in healing. use no peroxides, alcohols or ointments as these are VERY harmful to piercings yes they are good for cuts and scraps... but it will dry out the piercing.. kill the good tissues and good bacterias. they are too strong of chemicals for piercings.

.. sea salt soaks also figth any pending infections! so stick with the sea salt soaks! there is a nice saline spray you can find online called H20cean. which you can use 3 to 4 times a day.. but you still need to so a sea salt soak.. the warm saline solution will create bllod circulation and draw out the lymph (discharge) the lymph is dead white bllod cells.. and shoudl be a white color (much liek puss) if it is ever gree of yellow looking and you also have swelling redness pain. then it is an infection but if you do the sea salt soaks and then you will not have that problem.

for the swelling just take ibuprofen liek advil, ect...

i have 4 cartilage piercings of my own. and 9 piercings all together. but the sea salt soaks are the best thing for them! and email me back! with what kind of jewelry you have and if u used a gun or a needle...

Cartilage piercing sore and a bit swollen and red?

I got my cartilage pierced with a needle about a week ago (6 days ago). It looked so good and perfect until this morning. I woke up and the rim of my ear right near the piercing was a little swollen but not red at all. It also was sore. Then later today after I cleaned it with my H2Oxygen, it still hurt and it turned a little red, and now it is still a tiny bit red an hour after I cleaned it. It is still a little swollen and it is just as sore as this morning.

I don't think it's infected... :O

I've also been cleaning it with h2Oxygen three times a day and soaping it with anitbacterial soap once a day to clean the earring and piercing. The piercer told me to do this and he is a professional.

I got my industrial pierced 4 days ago. Now it is pretty swollen and red. What should I do to help it go down?

Since it only has been four days, your piercing is still considered to be very fresh. Swelling and redness is common at this point, mine didn’t go down for about a week or so. Infection can be ruled out if there is no yellow or smelly fluid discharge. When I first had mine, two things worked for my industrial:Note: My piercer advised me to do this when I shower.Sea salt soaksLet the water run through your ears first so that it is not dry when you do this. Add 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt into half cup of water. After it dissolves, use cotton buds and soak it in the water. Then clean around your piercing and remove all the crusts gently. You can twist your piercing at this point BUT ONLY a little. Stop if you experience sharp piercing pain when you twist it. Lastly, rinse your ear with clear water and you’re good to go. Do this everyday. Make sure you get sea salt, table salt will aggravate your piercing greatly.Green tea compressesBuy green tea sachets. Put one sachet in half cup of hot water. Let it cook well, for about 5 minutes. Remove the sachet from the water and make sure it is warm so that it does not burn your ear. Compress it against your piercing for 3 minutes. Place the sachet back into the now-green water and compress against your piercing again for 3 minutes. Rinse your ear with clear water and you are done.Other than what I suggested, the general rules like not sleeping on your piercing, avoiding chlorinated pool and constantly touching your piercings still apply too. Hence, it is best to follow the necessary rules so that your industrial can heal properly. Before attempting any D.I.Y methods, it is best if you contact your piercer and describe all the symptoms you are having. He or she will be able to best aid you as your piercing can be swollen and red for a number of reasons, ranging from unhygienic piercing procedures, improper fixing of jewelry or just poor cleaning habits.

Ear piercing hurts?

my ear piercing area started to hurt about 2 or 3 days ago and today it hurt the most. it only hurts when i touch the earring or when i moving my head a lot. other than that, it does not really hurt. it's not oozing yellow stuff or bleeding and it's not red and swollen so i don't think that it's infected. but i'm not sure. it is it infected? what should i do? my ears might be sensitive to the earrings i am wearing because theyre sterling silver and costs only 10 bucks. also, i've been wearing them for a while now but i've been cleaning them at least once or twice a week. could it be that i've been wearing the earrings for too long?
