You go to the DMV, take a paper test, usually 40-60 questions, if you pass that you then get a permit, you have to drive on it for atleast 30 days, but you can wait longer if you choose, after the 30 days though, you just go to a driving school in the area pay about 25 bucks, they take you on a drive and if you pass, bam you get your license.
Can you rent a car if you dont have your current licence on you?
So a couple of weeks ago, I was in minor fender bender accident with someone. Anyway, I dont even know how but somehow he ended up with my licence. I got a call next day, he apologized and said he would mail it. I still have not received the licence, and been driving on my old expired one for time being. However, I am away and want to rent a car. Would I be able to somehow? I have the expired one on me and valid passport.

just like the officer said, if you get your license before you go to court you more than likely will get off with a warning, but if you don't and this is your first offense he may push back a year before you can get your license, but nothing major and more than likely you can get off with a warning.

I got pulled over about 11 years ago(I was 19 and was in the process of obtaining my license) while driving my mom's whip after driving past a red light at about 11p in Queens. I don't remember why I was in such a rush but I did a full stop at the red light and it was completely dead (no cars or pedestrians anywhere), as soon as i passed the red light an undercover cop appeared out of literally nowhere! I promptly pulled over and had to calm my sister down since she was freaking out knowing the fact that I was driving on a permit. I closed my eyes for a few seconds and prayed.The officer was very well dressed in a suit and upon asking me for my driver's license and registration, I pulled out the registration followed by “about the drivers license… Here's my permit.” he then asked “is there was any particular reason you felt the need to pass the red light?” I looked him in the eyes and answered him brutally honestly “no officer I have no excuse, I shouldn't have done that” followed by looking down in shame. He then told me what the consequences were in which I acted very surprised as if I wasn't fully aware (which I most definitely was) of what could happen. He gave me back my permit and registration and warned me to never do that again. I was so shocked that by the time I snapped back to reality he was almost back in his car. I stuck my head out the window and screamed thank you and wiped the sweat from my brow. *phew*

Big trouble in NY, you will not be allowed to drive for several years, and they will eventually stop you. And I do not believe that you have insurance: You are required by law to list all drivers of the car and the insurance company will take your drivers license number and no insurance company in their right mind will sell insurance to an unlicenced driver. And it is a requirement of every insurance policy that no unlicensed driver be allowed to drive the car.. Did you even read the policy? You do not have insurance! "the government hasn't done anything for me"? Who do you think built the roads you're illegally driving on? Stop begging for handouts and do what you need to do to stop breaking the law. Remember: breaking the law makes you a criminal. There is no other way!
