I Got Pulled Over .and .

Have you ever got pulled over by a cop?

congratulations!!! me i was in a very bad accident a couple of years back it was very bad..and it was because of a drunk driver..i was traumatized after that it took me a while to get back behind the wheel ..i was very scared..and abt being pulled over ..no ..

I got pulled over for the first time today?

I was driving home from church kinda late at night (12:30 am) cuz I was talking to a few people. Then I was on the highway and I was changing lanes so I sped up to get in front of the car next to me. I went about 75 and I got pulled over. The cop asked me for my driver's license and registration and took my license back to her car, then came back, and let me go w/ no ticket or anything.

Is it common for the cop to let you go? I was being very polite, and I was really freaked. I even said "sorry, this is my first time getting pulled over and I'm really scared." with a nervous smile.

Does something like that show up on your record or anything? I'm 18 and I've only been driving for about a year now.

I'm just wondering if letting people off like that is common for police officers.

If you get pulled over and have been drinking and get out of your car and chug liquor can it be proven that you were drinking before you were driving?

Yes, this is a well known ploy, especially among habitual drunk drivers, for avoiding DUI charges or convictions. Our own police, with their experience, are experts at using this to get out of DUI convictions. There was one case where an RCMP, iirc, hit a motorcycle near his (the RCMP’s) home, went home after the accident before police showed up, and then claimed he'd had a few drinks to steady his nerves after the accident, when he had come back to the accident scene and been breathalyzed. However, the police doing DUI checks are wise to this, and will attempt to control you physically immediately on exiting the car, including a pat-down for alcohol, to avoid just this sort of thing happening.Edit:. I should mention that this is only to get out of the presumption of intoxication due to being over the legal limit when tested, or refusing the breathalyzer which carries the same penalty (here in Canada). It raises reasonable doubt about any blood alcohol test that is done, improving the chances of a favorable outcome if charged.

If you have a warrant and you get pulled over, what happens?

If you have a warrant and you get pulled over, what happens? In the US? In most instances since the officer performing the stop will ask for the license of the driver and proof of insurance, that officer will then “run” those documents/information. Meaning they will either use a computer terminal in their cruiser or they will radio in that information so that someone in dispatch can perform a similar search to validate the information and check that the license is valid, not expired, and if there are any wants, warrants or other flags on the individual. If they (or dispatch) “get a hit”, it is then a matter of protocol and departmental policy as to what happens next. If the severity of the want/warrant is sufficient, the officer will typically request backup and/or take the individual into custody for the warrant(s). If the flags on the individual are not that severe, depending on the law, departmental policy, and the discretion of the officer, it could result in them returning to the vehicle and asking the driver “are you aware of this outstanding matter?” and recommending that the driver “take care of this ASAP”.I wouldn’t count on the latter, but I have been fortunate enough to have heard that phrase myself and not only did I assure the officer that I would “take care of it immediately”, I considered it as an omen that I was very lucky and did my best to take care of that outstanding legal matter.

I got pulled over, but didn't get a ticket?

OK, this is more of a clarification question to sooth my nerves.

I'm a new driver with a decent car, where you have to turn on/off the headlights manually. Well, I forgot to turn on my headlights while on the road, but I quickly turned it on. Unfortunately, a cop saw that I had it off and pulled me over a few minutes after I had turned on. He asked for my license and all the necessary paperwork, left, came back, and gave me back my stuff.

I think he said "drive safe," gave no ticket, and just left

Am I in the clear? Because I seriously don't want to tell my parents about this. My relationship with them is strained as it is, and this will only make it worse.

What happens if you get pulled over and your license has been suspended?

This depends on the state. An officer has wide discretion in what he can do with someone who is caught driving with a suspended license. An officer can arrest you, tow your car away, give you a citation (which is a criminal offense) and tow your car or cite you and let you drive away or have another licensed driver in your car drive for you. Here is the problem with letting someone just drive away with a citation. If the officer knows that someone is driving with a suspended license and lets them go with just a citation and that person drives on and causes a collision then the department and/or officer could be liable in a civil trial if someone was hurt or there was property damage. That is who I either arrested the person, cited then and had someone else drive or cited them and towed their car, offering to call a taxi.

I got pulled over and got a verbal warning, is a verbal warning still recorded?

It seems like the cops would have a system that tells another cop that I got a verbal warning already and that I should get a ticket the next time. Could that be possible or am I just paranoid?

I got pulled over without my insurance card but i have insurance and i wasnt driving, he got the ticket?

Okay in detail. We were on our way home and my boyfriend was driving we got pulled over. I did not have my insurance card w/ me but i do have insurance. he got the ticket cause he was driving. Even though i have insurance will he still get fined or can it be let go if i show proof? Also does my insurance cover the driver if i am in the car? Thanks

Have you ever cried when pulled over by a cop?

I have not cried when I’ve been pulled over by police, but plenty of people have cried after I’ve pulled them over. Usually, it happens when I’m the last bad thing to happen in a long line of bad things that day, and they just can’t cope.I do feel bad for them. I try to listen to what the biggest issues in their lives are. Listening by itself can help, but sometimes I give advice if they seem open to it. I can usually get people to calm their nerves. I do it with my voice and my body posture.Sometimes I even do the trick I learned from Men in Black where I act like I’m confused at what I’m seeing. I think it helps alleviate the thought that I’m out to get them, or that I must have the wrong person. I’m not sure what they’re thinking of course, but like I said people tend to get calmer and the contact goes much better.
