I Had An Ingrown Toenail That I Didn

How do I fix my ingrown toenail?

First, great that you're treating it, infections are easy to get through sores in the toe area.
Soak your foot in warm water several times a day, do not add anything to the water. Next wash your foot and do not cover it with shoes or socks. Keeping your toe free and dry will promote healing time. If you have to wear shoes, wear sandals.
Now for the hard part, after soaking lift your nail up as far as you can handle and place some gauze underneath. Do this everyday and keep trying to push the gauze farther in. You will do this as the nail grows back.

Take ibuprofen for pain. If you feel this is not working you'll need to go to the doctor.

There are treatments over the counter, Nail Ease is a good one. You place it on the nail and it works by continually trying to flatten itself and lift the nail up.

My son had an ingrown nail that he didn't tell me about right away so we weren't able to fix it at home, he had to go to the doctor. The doctor will freeze the area before he does any work on it. I won't deny though, the shot to numb the area is painful.

Hopefully home remedies will help, but it is key that you either place the gauze under the nail or use Nail Ease to guide the nail up while growing back rather than letting it go and letting grow further into the skin.

Edit: upon rereading I wanted to tell you that you can use cotton, and you can kind of twist the gauze or cotton into a thin, straight contraption, that will work better. Then place it on the ingrown side as close to the edge as you can as if to lift the nail up.

What is it like to have ingrown toenail surgery?

PLEASE CANCEL your appointment and DO NOT let anyone UNNECESSARILY MUTILATE YOUR TOES!I have CURED numerous ingrown toenails with a very simple procedure that just requires the patience to let the nail grow out all the way. Most ingrown toenails occur when the sides / corners of the nail are cut too short, or cut out and the skin from the sidewalls of the toe can then infiltrate the nail growth area, thus causing the nail to grow INTO the skin. Wearing closed toe or tight shoes can exacerbate this problem.Other causes of ingrown nails are the shape of the nail is very curved and can dig into the side skin of the toe.Either way, the best remedy is to first soak the toe (foot) well in 50/50 water and white vinegar, maybe a dash of Listerine type mouthwash for antibacterial purposes.Once the surrounding skin and nail are properly softened, take an orangewood stick or cuticle pusher type implement and remove any debris (dead skin, lint, etc.) from under the nail, corner to corner. (Yes, this may hurt a bit; you may need to numb it with some ice or numbing cream/spray.)Then, take the tiniest piece of paper towel (you will see how tiny of a piece you need as you attempt to place it) and wet it with alcohol. Then, gently ‘cap’ the corner of the nail that is growing into the skin with the piece of paper towel under and along the side of the nail, trying as much as possible to include getting under the lowest/deepest part of the side of the nail. This will relieve the pressure and pain and give the nail something to grow up and over as it grows out to the end in it’s full shape. The piece of paper towel should stay under the nail for quite some time. You may occasionally drip some alcohol on the area to keep it clean and dry. If it comes out before the grow out is complete, just reapply another piece.Any questions I am happy to answer. Please try this before allowing anyone to cut out and permanently damage your nail, which many times makes the issue worse and for sure makes the appearance of your nail/toe unsightly and as well as not matching your others.

Ingrown Toenail?

Geez, some people give you pretty crappy and scary advice! Surgery is a last resort. Here's what you do. On the side the nail is ingrown, tuck a little tissue wedge under the nail. After a couple of days, use the nail file to clean it out (gently). Bathe or showere, then while the foot is still warm, tuck another wedge in. Repeat every couple of days. Make sure you change the bit of tissue or it will get pretty grungy! The gentle upward pressure of the wedge on the nail will gradually help the nail to grow out. Once it is out, trim it straight across, and keep it trimmed forever. Make sure any and all shoes you wear allow the toe a little wiggle room, or, you will have the problems forever. I had very painful ingrown toenails on both big toes. I used the above method. Once they grew out, and it did take a little while, they never bothered me again.

How long does it take for an ingrown toenail to heal?

I found a great website to check out
home remedy for ingrown toenails

heres what I found

"Soak Your Feet. At the first sign of an ingrown toenail, soak your feet several times a day in warm, soapy water. In addition to cleaning out harmful bacteria, this treatment may reduce both swelling and pain.
Apply Topical Antibiotic Cream. After you finish soaking your feet, put some over-the-counter, topical antibiotic cream around the edges of the toenail. Remember, that infection is a very real possibility and the antibiotic cream may help any infection that has started.
Wax with Dental Floss or Soft Cotton. It may be helpful to put some waxed dental floss or soft cotton as far under the toenail as you can. This may encourage the toenail to grow away from the flesh. Be sure not to cut into the flesh of your toes with the dental floss.
Try OTC Pain Killers. Pain of an ingrown toenail can typically be relieved by taking over-the-counter pain medications such as aspirin, Tylenol, or ibuprofen. If your pain is not relieved by these medications, it is time to see your healthcare provider.
Do Not Try to Cut the Toenail Out Yourself. This includes using a popular home remedy that calls for cutting a V into the top of the toenail. At best, this treatment does not work; at worst, it may cause more problems. The likelihood of infection is high when you try to do home surgery on the toenail yourself.
Seek Medical Help. If home treatments for ingrown toenails do not work, it is time to get medical treatment. A podiatrist is a doctor who specializes in treatment of feet. Consult a podiatrist if you need help with an ingrown toenail.
and this is the website I got my info from

I hope it helps
just scroll down to treatments.....

Why did my ingrown toenail come back and what are the causes?

Even with partial matrixectomy, where the nail bed is destroyed so the removed part can come back, there is a 5% recurrence rate. The destruction of the nailbed is a sensitive and debated procedure. If there is infection, it supposedly counteracts the phenol treatment, so some podiatrists will apply phenol some time after the initial surgery. In my case this didn’t work because the nail had already started to grow. I’ve also had a podiatrist who put phenol while it was slightly infected during the initial surgery. Then there are some journal articles that argue the nail is not the problem, but instead the surrounding skin must be removed.Seems to me that the best approach is to find a podiatrist whom you’re comfortable with, then he/she can track recurrences and make adjustments to the procedure as necessary. I’ve also heard that laser treatment is an option…I’ve had twice recurring ingrowns on two sites (one site with phenol applied, one without), and one site that worked with phenol on the first try.Disclaimer: Don’t have any medical training so answer may not be accurate.

Ingrown toenail the skin is purple, the toenail isn't?

Okay so I have an ingrown toenail, my fault cause i didn't cut it correctly, I wouldn't say this is the worse one yet but appearance-wise it is. It's Red and purple on the right side and at the bottom of the nail (nail bed i believe its called?)
It doesn't really hurt, Its a tad tender but I've been DOUSING it in peroxide and antibiotic cream, I soaked it in salt warm water today, and I honestly think there isn't an ingrown part in it, Idk i had dozens of them

its not oozing puss unless i squeeze it HARD but it does kinda "crust" where the opening is (ew right?) opening meaning the side of the nail

I just wanna know if this is a big problem, i REALLY don't wanna go to the doctor,!!

so is it? what do i do lol?

Ingrown toenail pain can't sleep?

So I have this ingrown toenail and it didn't hurt THAT bad until today when I fell on the stairs and kind of smashed it. It kind of bled around and under my toenail for awhile after that. It didn't hurt that bad all day though. Then I tripped over my own foot and almost stubbed that toe, and ever since then it hurts like f*cking hell and I am so close to crying. My mom had me tape an onion to my toe and stuff right before I tripped but it just hurts so bad.
