What size wire do I need for 500 watt speakers??? (250 watt RMS)?

The correct speaker wire gauge depends on speaker impedance and lengh of the cable to run.

Gauge numbers used for speaker wires are 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22

Larger gauge numbers indicate "lighter" wires. HTiBs and speaker packages usually come with 20 or 22 gauge speaker wires.

Smaller gauge numbers indicate "heavier" wires. Usually 16 gauge speaker cable is enough for most Home Theater applications.

To use lighter speaker wire (larger gauge) than the recommended will waste amplifier power because the lighter wires offer more resistance so speakers will not sound as they should. To use heavier speaker wire (smaller gauge) than the recommended will do nothing to improve sound so you will just waste some money.

To know wich wire gauge is recommended to your specific set-up then visit this link and see the table:

Same recommendations are posted on JBL professional FAQ page on this link (But is a graphic that is more diffcult to read):

How big of an amp do i need for a subwoofer 2500 Watt max and two speakers 250 watts max all need passive amp?

Without going into confusing details, I can infer from your "2500 watt max" that you are either talking about a KICKER, JL or MTX subwoofer.

I wish you had provided me with the model of the woofer so I could research it - if you want email me at dslcobra@yahoo.com.

For a Subwoofer that can handle so much power, I recommend the ROCKFORD FOSGATE T1000bd or the ROCKFORD FOSGATE T2000bd.

The T1000bd costs about $700 at sounddomain.com (link included) It will give you about 1000 Watts RMS at 1ohm.

The T2000bd costs about $1200 or less online and you can get close to 2000 Watts Rms out of it at 1ohm.

I personally am going with the T3000bd because I am building a new subwoofer system for my Kicker L7's for my new 2007 Cadillac EXT.
The existing system in my old EXT looks like this:

Rockford Fosgate's amps I mentioned are EXTREMELY powerful if you wire your system properly and I suggest you go with them.

As for the two smaller speakers that are 250 watts max each,
I personally suggest you simply wire them to the car's existing audio system rather than spend extra money for a multi channel amplifier. In the long run, its cheaper and secondly - YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO HEAR THEM IF YOUR SUBWOOFERS ARE KICKING OUT 1000RMS OR MORE.

When I help people shop for Car audio, I help them save money and do what makes sense.

How much amp needed to 1,000 watts JBL subwoofers?

Assuming 8 Ohms, you need 11 Amperes RMS for 1,000 Watts, or 15 Amps peak for sine wave signal. For a 1,000 Watt powered sub, you would need about 10 Amperes at 120 Volts, assuming digital amplification.BUT, powered subwoofer power ratings are not regulated by the FTC “truth in advertising” protocols, so advertising 1,000 Watts, even for a reputable company like JBL, is almost certainly exaggerated. It is further an unreliable measure of how loud and low the subwoofer goes, even for their professional stage models. The real answer is in the “Plate Amps”, the specification for how much current the sub needs on the power cord.

If I have two 400 watt RMS subwoofers what size amp do I need? How can you tell?

Probably 800 watts at half the rated ohms of one speaker. Your amp must be able to push 800 watts at, say, 2 ohms if these are 4 ohm speakers or 800 watts at 4 ohms if these are 8 ohm speakers. It will say on the speakers what the impedance in ohms is.Get an amp that is specified with 800 watts or over, at an ohm rating that is SAME or UNDER…half the ohm rating of one of those speakers. That's the answer here's a short ramble:Almost inevitably you will be running the two speakers in parallel. Whether you have two outputs on your power amplifier; or if you go into one speaker then go out from that speaker to the next; the connection you don't see inside the speaker with in and out or inside the amp is a parallel connection. Parallel connections divide the impedance (ohms.) It takes a bigger amp to handle lower impedance, because lower impedance is lower AC resistance. Lower resistance means more amps flowing for the same output voltage. More amps requires a beefier output section. The actual equation for total speaker ohms of speakers wired in parallel is:Total ohms = 1/((1/ohms#1)+(1/ohms#2))…If you put in a third speaker there would be another similar term in the denominator, (1/ohms of speaker #3). More speakers, lower ohms…The amp will say what the watts and ohms are on the back, or at least in the manual it will tell you what it can handle. Be at or below the ohms, and above the watts.

How many watts is a good speaker?

HelloOf course, no one makes a 32-watt amp, but a 40- or 50-watt receiver or amplifier should do fine. If the amp or receiver you want puts out, say, 100 watts, don't worry about it. Remember, at average listening levels with typical speakers, any amp is putting out only about 1 watt, anyway.Motivational Speaker indian

What size amp do i need to push 4 12 inch kicker subs?

you need a charging system upgrade to run 4 12" sub woofers, and the RMS rating is how you match a sub woofer to a class d amplifier the amp is set up for running sub woofers.the RMS rating is the continuous power a class d amplifier can put out and a sub woofer can handle and a match is what your looking for from amp to subs and if you have 4 you have to add the RMS rating of all 4 of them and match this figure to a class d amplifier, this is what your looking for for best results at the ohms load you except to wire them for.a bridgeable 4 channel amp in a low pass mode can run subs but is not the way to go.just 0 gauge wiring if your talking (the big 3 upgrade) gives you about 12 to 14 amps more power from your stock alternator.and i do not think its enough to run 4 12s.good luck with your system, and use the site the other answer gives you to wire them right.its the (rockford fosgate woofer wiring wizard) this will take you to the same wiring chart.never use peak or max ratings to match any subs or speakers to an amplifier.its the continuous power or pioneer calls it the normal power rating.good luck.

What size amp do i need to power two 12 inch subs?

1000watt-2000watt should be good but you will need a way bigger battery running stuff like that normal cars run with a 400-700 cca batt. i would look for an optima batty with at least 1000cca Have fun with Those speakers
