I Have A 2 Story Apartment. My Room Is Upstairs However I Have An Opening To Look Down To My Living

Apartment living--would you rather the top floor or bottom floor. And why?

usually when you sign up at an apartment complex you get what's available at the time or you can wait for a specific apartment but you'd have to put down a deposit to hold it when it comes open. But usually it's the first.

I've had both top floor and bottom floors and I prefer the top floor, but it depends on the layout. Things to consider are where the HVAC units are located, whether they will keep you up at night or not), whether you're near the door and hear everyone coming and going, whether you're near the mail boxes, whether you have a pet (dogs should be on the first floor and cats on the top floor). Usually the top floor is hotter than the first floor. If you like the exercise of walking the stairs (maybe they have elevators and if so can you walk all the steps up and down if necessary) then a second floor is good. It could also depend on where the apartment is located, like near a tree. An upstairs near the parking lot would be the cheapest of the apartments. Some people like a patio, some like a large patio to entertain guests, some like an efficiency or a studio (but you'd need a one bedroom if you planned to have someone stay overnight although you can't have them there often or for long stays). I save on electric because the guy downstairs loves to heat up his place in the winter and in fact so warm that I have to open my windows. Depending on where you are located, usually upstairs (not near trees or obvious) you can crack your windows open during the day or evenings. My main concern is that I live in an area where in the past some areas or in some storms got flooded and I saw people lose their things and I don't want that to happen to me so I choose a second floor, and I like being able to see my car. On the first floor the complex is always making noise cutting grass, blowing dirt, etc. and the grass is always being sprayed with insecticides and I don't like being near that stuff.

How to cool down an upstairs apartment?

My fiance and I recently moved to a new area for work. We moved into a beautiful area and now live in the upstairs apartment of a house. The apartment is ok but the heat is ridiculous. We started with opening windows at night and keeping them closed in the day. At night this was fine, but when we got home from work the apartment was unbearable. I had an old window AC unit from college and tried that. It worked a little but overall it was too small for the space and was limited to the living room. SO I stole my parents old window unit. I use that in the living room because its larger, and the other one in the bedroom. This works well enough but the things run non stop. If we use any appliances like the stove, it cancels out and its like the AC is off. Another problem we have is that sometimes it feels like the downstairs neighbors do something that heats up our place. Is there any tricks to keep an upper cool? Or am I doing the best possible? DO any curtains block out heat better than others? I have all windows covered but I don't know how much that is helping. Any tips would be greatly appreciated....

Would you rather live upstairs or downstairs in an apartment?

Upstairs apartments are typically quieter and safer. You don't have anyone above you stomping around and your windows aren't accessable. However, if you have a small dog (your avatar is a small dog), children, or a stomper living with you, then a bottom apartment will keep your neighbors happier. Keep in mind that the double edged sword is that if you have a small yappy dog, the dog will hear more things downstairs, which may make him bark more. This is something MAJOR to consider before you move to an apartment. If the dog is a yapper, what do you do when you get a notice to quit or move? You will not be permitted to install any type of invasive alarm without approval of the owner/landlord/manager.

When renting apartments, do you prefer ground level, or the upstairs?

I'd pick a place that just has one level, which is what I have, because I was having some problems walking last year. Also, I like to do gardening & feel lucky to have a little yard with my apt. (It's a 4-plex, or I could say, 2 duplexes on one property.) It was a mixture of weeds & patches of grass when I moved in, but I mulched & took that out, & now it's all garden. Also, I'm happy that I finally got some quiet people next to me.

The only time I wished I lived in an upstairs apt. was when someone broke into my apt. when I was at work. However, we haven't had any problems with theft in these apartments. It's a slightly better neighborhood, though of course that's no guarantee.

I hope you find a 1-level place. Ours would be dandy if it weren't for that big apt complex next door & especially their very noisy driveway with motorcycles, noisy cars, car stereos, people thinking they can have private phone calls in the driveway (oh, right!), & people talking too loud. Well, that's the younger folks for you.

Well, we each make our choices & even at an older age, we try this & live with this choice awhile, & then we try something else. You'd think by now that we'd have the answers.

By the way, I like your Rt 66 name & logo. Such killjoys, ending Rt 66 as the main route to the west!

I have a two story home and the heater only works upstairs, why doesn't heat the downstairs?

i'm hoping it relatively isn't a clean abode, whether it specific could desire to be. Too many contractors set up warmth platforms with out actually understanding what they are doing. i latterly appeared at new abode and observed the chilly air returns have been incorrectly placed interior the abode. They placed the chilly air return in a conventient spot, not the right spot. So your abode could desire to have an improper put in heating unit and transport gadget. final off the better floor vents could desire to be the only thank you to get warmth downstair, what a darn disgrace! while this chilly emergency is over, touch a heating contractor and characteristic them look over your abode. in case you're intense approximately fixing this difficulty, there are a number of checks they are able to run on your gadget, however the treatment could desire to be expensive. my own abode has improperly placed registers so i comprehend how complicated it quite is to have an improperly designed gadget.

Ants in upstairs bathroom. Where are they coming from?

I'm having a problem with small ants in my upstairs bathroom. Here is the situation. Just today, I started spotting them. Overall, I've picked up and flushed about 15 so far. The thing is, I have never seen a -single- ant downstairs. Nor have I seen any in my room (which connects to my isolated bathroom). There is one window in the bathroom, it is shut tight and there are no signs of entry from the ants. There are ants outside that look similar to these, but I am careful not to track them inside, much less to my 2nd floor. My bathroom has a ceiling fan but I didn't see any ants near that area. The only place I've spotted them in fact are on my sink area (I have a double sink) and they are getting into my empty medicine cabinet.

My only clue is I saw an ant coming up through my sink. I didn't think ants could go up the pipes like that. I only observed one though coming from the sink. Any ideas? Thanks.

I am answering this as a smoker who has been in a similar situation. Although I hadn’t realised it, my cigarette smoke was drifting into my neighbours’ apartment, and they protested. Once I was aware of it, I closed my windows whenever I smoked.I don’t understand why you say you obviously can’t do it, because you can. You may prefer not to, but they prefer not to smell your cigarette smoke, especially in their home. Even as a smoker, I don’t enjoy the smell of second hand smoke, though I don’t notice it when I am smoking myself. If I were a non-smoker, it would be intolerable.Edit:I see a lot of comments pointing out that it may be against the rules to smoke in her apartment. She doesn’t say that it is against the rules and the neighbours affected suggest she smokes inside. To me this indicates there in her particular case there is no such rule. However, even if there is, if her smoke is blowing into their windows, for all intents and purposes she is smoking in their apartment. And for those addressing my smoking, where I lived we didn’t have ducted air and heating systems and I lived on a different floor, so once I stopped smoking out of doors and closed my windows, it had no effect on the neighbours. They had no problems with it after that, and yes, I did check to make sure.

What is the name for those two story apartments that have a living room on one floor with a bedroom on the top?

This might not be a scam, however, most anything associated with Nigeria has almost always been mentioned as a scam. I am sure there are may rentals you might rent in the area, you would want. In this case I would not consider answering this inquiry as it is in the high risk area of being a scam. I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck. "FIGHT ON"

Unexplained puddle of water in middle of dining room floor? Where did it come from?

Something strange is happening in my apartment..

I've been living here for two years. Its a second floor apartment in the city. THe past few nights at around 3 AM we've been having some of the WORST thunderstorms, ever. I grew up in Florida and have been through hurricanes and the notorious weather down there, and then moved to Massachusetts, and these storms even rival that of Florida.

Last night, I was awoken, YET AGAIN, by insane cracking in the sky and thunder, etc. This time though it sounds like someone was pushing on my bedroom door, everything trashing around outside. I went to my door and checked and there was nothing that I could see. ( I thought maybe it was the cat being afraid of the storm but she was asleep).

This morning I wake up, and I go out to the dining room and i see literally a FLOOD of water in the middle of the floor. Giant freakin puddle. Not near any doors, windows, or anything, just partially under the dining room table. No leak from the ceiling, no knocked over cups of water, nothing. No idea where it came from, or how it got there. I did not have a scent that I could smell, but when I clleaned it up it was a slight off brown color. There is also not any sort of bathroom or kitchen or sink of any kind in that room in the apartment above or below us.

What could be causing this?? any ideas? There is literally NO evidence of a broken/leaking pipe anywhere that I can see, or any other evidence of where it could've come from.

Additionally, my roommate has been having all of her belongings disapear. Shirts, shoes, makeup, lotion. Its only her and I in the house and I assumed she was being stupid, and she just kept saying "ITS GREMLINS!!!". So I have no idea. I dont know if that is relevant or not.

Apart from this, I haven't had many weird experiences IN the apartment, but I have outside of the apartment. I chalked it up to "city living", though.

Any thoughts?
