I Have A 2006 Suzuki And When I Try To Shift The Gear It Sounds Like It Is Trying To Go But It

How do you know when to shift to 5th gear in a manual car?

Your gear does not define your speed, your throttle input does. It is advisable to shift up a gear whenever your engine is making too much noise because the revs are rising too much into the red line. Do not do that if you don’t want to damage your engine. Also driving at super high revs also pulls down your fuel efficiency as the engine has to work more. The Engine makes so much noise because of the cylinders going up and down that fast. Watch a video of how an IC engine works and you’d realise what you are doing to the engine parts by not shifting up. You are already driving at 80km/hr, which is the speed limit on most Indian highways. My advise is you shift into fifth at about 65 or 70 kmph and then maintain 80 by giving slight taps to the throttle paddle. Doing an 80 kmph in 4th also needs you to almost floor the throttle paddle, which again is bad for your car. Try to maintain your engine noise to the bare minimum, but not so low that the starts knocking. Just like life, driving also needs a good balance. There is no 1’s and 0’s or blacks and whites, it’s all a grey area and you have to find your sweet spot.Try to clear your ideas of a gearing in a car. A gear does not necessarily mean high speed. The gears control the power and torque delivery to the wheels. The gears translate the engines motion into the motion of the wheels. I can drive in 3 or 4 different gears at the same speed. This gear means speed is a big misconception, particularly amongst Indian drivers. When you need your car to pull through a particularly demanding part like a steep slope or a sandy area, when you need more torque of the engine delivered to the wheel so that more force is applied on the surface through the tyres, you go for the lower gears. On the other hand, when you need more pick up, when you need the engine revs be more directly translated into wheel rotations, you shift into a higher gear. Basically, keep this in mind - If you do need more power to maintain the speed, only then shift down, and if you feel too much torque is being produced for that speed and you really do not need that puch in your back, shift up.PS: - Drive Safe! Drive Sensibly! Respect other drivers. Be gentle to your car.

My 2002 suzuki gs500 will not engage in any gear. starts fine. any ideas?h?

Sounds like everything is NOT FINE. Not really clear what "engage" means? Trans won't shift into gear? Clutch wont release? As in gears grind? The multi plate clutches are pretty tricky and there are some (at least 1 or more) discs that are a different thickness. And there is also a bevel spring in the pack too. Better take the clutch apart and check ALL the disc thicknesses and location according to clutch instructions or the service manual. The different thickness disc MUST be in the right place or the clutch may lock up.

2007 suzuki forenza starts but won't shift out of park?

I have a 2006 Chevy Aveo that did the same thing...the whole gear shifter had to be replaced. It is a manufacturing problem. If you have your owner's manual, there should be an override somewhere. There was some little button I had to find and jab something into it to override the gear shifter. It was because there was some fault and it was registering something wrong, so it wouldn't allow the car to be taken out of park. I don't know if you are having the same problem, but it sounds like what I went through. Good luck to you and get to a mechanic immediately!!

What's wrong with my 2001 suzuki sv650? i think it's a clutch problem...here are the details.?

2001 sv650 17,000 miles.
i've had the bike since it only had 650 miles.
proper break in.
as of now i have a hard time finding neutral and once it's in 1st gear i have a hard time getting it into 2nd. once it's in 3rd there's no problem getting into the upper gears.
the problem comes and goes.
the shifting problem is somewhat alleviated if i stay on the throttle when i try to shift.
i live in San Francisco so most of the miles are city miles.
so it could be the clutch is bad or the transmission(i hope not).
has anyone had a similar problem or know what i should do?
i've already heard about the clutch test, get it into the highest gear and open up the throttle to see if you have power. there's no problem there.
help!
thanks!

Why does my car momentarily lose power after shifting gears?

You've asked several questions here...and also given some information that may have an impact on the answers you might get.   You mention that the clutch is about to "go".  If this is the case, it is typically manifested by "clutch slip" which is when you press the accelerator and the engine speeds up, but the car doesn't go any faster..i.e. the clutch is "slipping" against the flywheel/pressure plate without transferring the increased rpm of the engine to the transmission.  If the clutch is indeed slipping, then this phenomenon is most noticeable right after you change gears, because your putting more demands on the engine (i.e. accelerating) and attempting to put more torque from the engine into the transmission (via the clutch) which causes it to slip more than it might in steady-state driving at a constant speed.   If you are experiencing a slipping clutch you most likely need to replace it and afterward the car should accelerate smoothly and there will be a synchronicity between engine speed and car speed. Now, if your clutch is NOT slipping and your experiencing a perceived loss of power after shifting gears, it may just be that the engine rpm are dropping off too far before you reengage the clutch and resume acceleration.  If this is the case, you may be taking too much time between disengaging the clutch (by pressing the clutch pedal) and re-engaging it (by lifting off the clutch pedal)  When shifting gears, the clutch pedal should be pressed and released fairly quickly as part of a smooth, movement synchronized with moving the shift lever from one gear to the next. If you are pausing in the middle of the shift, or taking too long to reengage the clutch, the engine rpm will fall and the engine will be making less power than it was at the higher rpm level it was when you initiated your gear change.  The idea is to keep the engine in a range of rpm that produces enough power to smoothly take up the level of acceleration you're trying to achieve while changing up through the gears.

Accidentally I shift gear without using the clutch pedal. How can I detect any damages if it happen to my car?

If you didn't do it forcefully, if was smooth shift. You did not damage any part of the car.If you had felt the gear lever resistance to slot to gear, if you had felt excessive vibration and grrrr noise to slot on then there might be some damage but if by now your vehicle is running smoothly like before then nothing to worry.Technically speaking if you had been fortunately … unknowingly matching the gear ratio of the next gear you had slot to then there it will synchronise and the next gear will slot as if you had shifted engaging the clutch. Just guessing with the existing data you had given.Finally…. Don't worry. Nothing has happened.

Why does my car jerk slightly when shifting into reverse?

all automatics do this. Regardless of gear the magnitude, the jerk is a function of drivetrain and suspension slop, clutch pressure and condition, clutch engagement setting, transmission fluid properties, idle speed. If the jerk is extreme and changes engine RPM by more than 100RPM, you certainly have a problem. beware, it’s easy to get either ripped off or spend heavily. Start by checking idle speed, then inspecting/changing fluid, then inspecting suspension. then check the transmission and drivetrain for slop, wear, damage, starting at a driveshaft shop.Your low mileage car could suffer from the hands of an abusive and jerky driver, a driver who spent long hours shearing transmission fluid stopped in traffic, or a transmission defect.Without mechanical service, you can reduce the jerk by not stepping on the brake as you change gears, and shifting to neutral every time you must idle for more than 20 seconds.

Gearbox problem on suzuki vitara?

Did this start when the weather turned colder? When was the last tune up? Ever clean your plugs, change your air filter, check your fuel filter??

If it runs good after it warms up from stop and starts it probably is not a motor mount. A motor mount usually affects you hot or cold. With the car in neutral, parking brake up, maybe someone standing on the brake - lift the hood and rev the engine. If it is a bad motor mount the engine should jump.

I think you are starved for fuel or need a good tune up. Also, does this happen in the summer or only in the cold? Does this happen with a full tank of gas or only when you are on fumes? You have nothing to lose by using some injector cleaner. If it is a carbureter maybe the choke is not opening right. I used to take the air cleaner off and flip up the little butterfly. Carb cleaner will take some of the carbon crap off.

Under warranty don't do anything, take it back to the shop.

How many miles will a suzuki GSXR 600 engine last?

If it is going that cheap chances are the engine or trans is trashed. Sport bikes take a beating generally. If it was well cared for and ridden with great care and never raced or shifted without the clutch or anything then it sounds like the buy of the year!

Problem with Suzuki Swift's gear lever. Details follow...?

I have a 12year old Suzuki Swift and for some time now it has this problem with the 1st,3rd and 5th gear: they won't buckle properly at once, so I have to try and push them with a greater strength than usual. I got it to a service twice during the past 2 months for this problem, they changed the gear oil and replaced sth described to me as "flask" that contained this oil. Yet, no improvement. I still need to press hard the gear shift or 1,3 and 5 won't buckle. Any suggestions?
