you need to tell us what engine it has in it,not all engine use the same type oil,the diesel uses a totally different oil in them,so to honestly answer this you need to give a little more information on the van,it should use a good 10-w-30 if its not using any oil, that's recommended for engines over a 100 thousand, good luck

Radiator bleeding question 5.9L gas dodge ram?

the best way to do it is start it and let it run and the thermostat will still open up on it and then you will see the air bubbles disappear in the radiator, this way you can monitor it as its burping its self, and add to it as it needs it,and ,also make sure the reservoir level is up to full once its warmed up,then drive it and come back and recheck it,and make sur the heater is working real good on it,sometimes an air bubble will get trapped in the heater core on it,and then recheck it when it cold just to be sure, good luck on it,

How many quarts of oil are required in a 2001 5.9 liter dodge ram?

it takes 5.2 quarts but if you use an extended life filter they hold more oil so it should take close to 5.5 quarts, that's what i use in mine and it will easily hold that much,it may not seem like much but the extra amount of oil does help it,good luck.

Fuel Pressure Problem on 2001 Dodge Ram 1500?

if you have access to a pressure gage run a check on the amount of pressure its running on the pump,if its to high its the regulator causing it too happen, if its to low its the pump causing it, you,ll need to borrow or buy a gage to do this with though and make sure it has the right adapter in it to fit that truck, auto zone has them for about 40 bucks,or they,ll rent you one ,you need above 40 pounds to run it right, anything below wont make it run right and if its too high say around 60 its to high, good luck on it and enjoy the holidays.

Horrible gas mileage on dodge ram 5.9l?

The 1997 Rams were available with 2 different tire options - stock 245/75/16 or the optional 265/75/16's (this tire is 31.6" tall), if that is the size that came on your truck, I really would not think a tire that is just over 1" bigger is going to be causing the lugging. Now if it came with the 245's (a 30" tire) that might cause noticeable difference.
The fact that you are running no muffler could also cause poor fuel economy. Muffler basics: You do not need backpressure if your fuel throttle racing or accelerating, you do need back pressure for cruise speeds and economy. What state even allows no muffler?
If you want to stay with the 33's, what gears are you running? You might want to change them, that can make a difference with bigger tires. When I went from stock 31" tires on my truck to 33's, there was no difference in fuel mileage, when I went up to 35's my mileage really dropped, when I went to 37's I changed to 4.56 gears which improved my mileage. My truck is sitting 12" higher then stock with the 37" tires and 9" of lift - with the 4.56 gears I am getting 12 to 13 city.
I would say a good tune up, a performance muffler, use your cruise control when ever and where ever you can if it has it. Either drop back to one of the stock tire sizes if you wanted to go that route or put bigger gears in.

Why does my check engine light come on after getting gas?

As many have mentioned, it's not simple to answer without more information. There are a number of emmisions fault codes that can occur when fueling for a variety of reasons. Heres a few-Various leak codes. The fuel tank isn't just a can with a pipe in from the filler neck and a pipe out to the fuel line to the motor. There is also also ventilation system that corrects for tank pressure changes allowing air to enter when needed while keeping fuel vapor from escaping, and can pull that fuel vapor into the intake system of the engine. The most common leak issue is a loose or misplaced filler cap that causes a major leak code. Next is a failed seal on the fuel filler cap causing a minor lack code. After that you have the charcoal canister shutoff valve sticking open due to a mechanical failure or due to debris from the charcoal canister caused by impact, consistent over filling, or age. Next would be the purge valve sticking open or closed. Finally hard system leaks such as a cracked hose or seal at the level sensor assembly.Overfilling can affect the charcoal canister by degrading the charcoal filter and causing the valve to stick. This system was only designed for vapor and not liquid fuel.As the fuel tank is semi flexible, the weight of the fuel will normally distort the tank and allow for some leaks due to dried or failed seals to be fuel level dependent. Finally there are the weird ones… found a low-jack transmitter installation gone awry. The installer screwed the mount through the floor under the seat into the fuel tank. Once he realized fuel was leaking on the ground he pulled the screw out, out some sealant on it and screwed it back in the hole. The customer only got a minor leak code when they had a full tank and the weight pulled the tank down off the screw.Found couple plastic tanks cracked at a seam. Also found issues due to distortion and swelling of the plastic tank from E85 and MTBE. There were a few metal tanks with braised hose junctions that separated. One tank actually collapsed and crushed due to a stuck shutoff valve and a bad sensor.Good luck.
