I Have A 99 Gtp. I Notice There Is A Coolant Leak Underneath The Car. I Checked The Radiator And

What does it mean if there's oil in my radiator?

Means you have a leak between the oil system and the cooling system. Probably means you also have coolant antifreeze in your oil... check the dipstick for water contamination. That's a worse problem. This is bad and is a sign that the walls between the coolant and lubrication system have corroded through (from depleted coolant - too old) or your engine block is cracked from freezing or severe overheating.  Both oil and coolant travel through passageways in the block and the walls between them can be thin.  Another possibility is a head gasket failure. This is not a totally uncommon ocurrence I have heard, and to fix Head gasket is not too bad but the corrosion or cracked block will likely be expensive. Continuing to drive this way will eventually destroy the engine totally (it's not that far from there now, even though it may be running). The watery oil will foam and be ineffective. the metal parts will rust and eventually the engine will seize as the hole gets bigger and the leak worse.

Coolant leak in 1998 Honda Civic? Water pump? Seal? Head Gasket?

The car has overheated a couple of times. I need to add half a gallon of coolant every 3 days. Tonight I looked under the car and found coolant dripping from the near the back of the water pump (where it bolts to the engine). I replaced the water pump and timing belt this summer, so the pump is new. I don't smell anything strange from the tailpipe, I drained a half quart of oil and let it settle- maybe 1 or 2 drops of coolant in the oil (possibly from the outside of the oil pan?). Where is the weephole on the water pump? Does it make sense that a new water pump would be bad already? Could it be leaking from the water pump gasket? I tried re-tightening some of the water pump bolts, but still leaking- I couldn't get them all though. I want to fix this problem ONCE, as I learned this summer it's not a small task to change the water pump. Could these be symptoms of a blown head gasket? (I hope not)
Thanks for any advice!

Problem with Dexcool antifreeze radiator gummed?

I know there is a problem but haven't heard anything about a successful lawsuit, they're still using it! I work in a parts store and sell tons of heater hose fittings to replace old ones that are eaten up by this stuff! I would start with a flush of the system. This may create leaks by clearing out the corrosion but if it does they're bound to pop up soon anyway. You don't have to go back with dexcool, but make sure the system is well cleaned out before using a different coolant as the two coolants may not mix well and create new problems.

Why is the radiator coolant filling up the reservoir?

Your question needs a little clarification. If it fills constantly, to the point of overflowing, you have a leak in a head gasket that is adding oil to it. This is serious and should be fixed before more damage. You should notice a foam or sludge around the edges. If it varies between the max and min lines, it is perfect. It receives the excess coolant when it heats up, and sucks it back when cool. When you fill it after changing, you should fill close to the max level, and check the next day or two after driving those days. It will probably drop as it replaces air locked in the system on draining. Once it his it’s normal level, it should maintain that (above the min level) every morning when cold.

Why is the heater in my 00 pontiac grand prix gt blowing out cold air?

Does your temperature gauge show the engine is warm if not and it has been running for like 1o minutes probably have to replace the thermostat. If it is showing warn then probably the heater core is plugged. It could also be the the valve that allows warm water into the core is not working.

Where do I add the coolant on my 2002 Grand am?

Have you checked the owner's manual?

How do you remove the radiator cap from a car radiator and replace the antifreeze?

Don't try to do it when the engine is hot. When the engine is cool, If your vehicle has a radiator cap? You will press down on it and turn it Counter Clock Wise for it to loosen. You may have to wiggle or jiggle the cap to lift it straight up and off at that point.
Fill the coolant up to the top of the radiator..leave about 1/2 inch of from the top for expansion when your car heats up. You can start your engine..make sure the car emergency brake is set.
Let the engine run for a few minutes and see if the fluid level stays the same? Add fluid as needed. If it over flows, turn off the engine and put the radiator cap back on. Also turn your heater fan on low..and the heat selector to full on.
Go ahead and fill your overflow Reserve to the full cold position. Give this a try and check it again after the car has been driven awhile. Check your overflow and see what the fluid level it there...not at the radiator. Also, Read your owners manual for your car...it has a lot of valuable information in relationship to your car! Good Luck.

3800 is leaking coolant bad and when u drive it it smokes from somewhere under the waterpump cant tell where?

You dont mention the year but I am going to take a guess and say the leak is actually the plastic elbow in the end of the intake just above the water pump. Don't know why they did it but this elbow is plastic and just presses in and over time it cracks usually on the intake end and leaks. This elbow leads from the intake to the alternator bracket which has a coolant passage in it that eventually leads to a heater hose. Its a cheap part you can get at parts stores. I have always replaced them when I have done the intake gaskets but I would assume you could also do it by taking that alternator bracket apart.

What causes the car radiator's water to be brown and bubbling?

Coolant becomes brown from rust. If your coolant is brown, the coolant needs to be drained and the system flushed before it can be filled with fresh coolant. If the coolant is bubbling, there is a good chance that combustion gases from the cylinders are making their way into the coolant. This can happen either as a result of a blown head gasket or a head gasket that has been broken down by corrosion. It could also be caused by boiling coolant. So a chemical test will need to be performed to determine if combustion gases are entering the water jackets. If they are, then the head(s) will need to be removed and resurfaced, and the head gasket(s) replaced.

Pontiac 2000 Grand Prix GT Low coolant light keeps flashing?

if your radiator is completely full when it is flashing... your coolant level sensor could be bad... you can either replace it or unplug it if you decide to unplug it... below the radiator cap strait down is where you disconnect it... just make sure to check your level regularly.
