My parents don't want me to go to university and study philosophy. What should I tell them?

Did Sikh people take some elements from Islam when they made their religion?
I can't help but think that their Guru Nanak Dev just blended Islam with Hinduism to make Sikhism, but if I were to ever say this to any of my Sikh friends, they would get extremely angry. I know that many Sufi Masters regard Guru Nanak Dev as being a Sufi Saint. Even the Sikh Holy Book, the Guru Granth Sahib has teachings, philosophies and beliefs of four Sufi Muslim saints. The 4 Sufi Muslim saints who are revered by Sikhs are Bhagat Beni, Bhagat Bhikhan, Baba Farid, and Bhagat Sadhana. I also know that Guru Nanak Dev travelled towards the west into Arabia and Persia; visiting Mecca, Medina and Baghdad. I think Sikhs should revert to Islam, it's the one true religion. What do you guys think? Is Sikhism a corruption of Islam? What do YOUR Sikh friends think about this?
