I Have A Inner Ear Infection And The Doctor Gave Me Ciprofloxacin And I Just Put My Drops In And It

Can Ciprodex cause an ear infection to get worse?

The Ciprodex would NOT (and could not) make your infection worse. Ciprodex is a mixture of an antibiotic and a topical corticosteroid to reduce inflammation.

A fan blowing in your ear all night can actually cause an infection to feel worse (I know this from personal experience!). Keep taking the ciprodex.

And if you need eustachian tubes, you need eustachian tubes. I have had to have a few sets in my younger years. And they defintely helped by drastically reducing the ear infections I was getting.

Though I'm lucky to live in Canada. We don't pay our doctors or our surgeons directly. The only bill I have ever been given by a hospital was a $15/day extra charge because I wanted to be placed in a private room -- which I payed gladly. I have had multiple sets of tubes, appendectomy, recurrent brain tumours requiring brain surgery, etc and I did not see one bill. And the only thing I pay for at my docs office is if I need a doctor's note of some kind which isn't covered by our provinical coverage.

How long do I keep ear drops in my ear for infection?

My doctor prescribed me IC Ciprofloxacin for my ear infection. When I put the ear drops in the medicine obviously flows out when I put my head upright....so my question is, when I put the drops in my ear, how long should I keep my head tilted and leave the drops in my ear before turning my head upright and allowing the medicine to come out?

Can you put eye drops in your ear for ear infection?

Sure, if you like to walk on the wild side! With my knowledge about medicated or non-medicated OTC drops for problems affecting the ears versus eyes being limited to veterinary medicine, rest assured that my modest insight is no different than what anyone familiar with human medicine may offer. We use the same stuff for animals as people do.Ear drops are going to be quite unpleasant to apply to your corneas and may burn them. Some ear drops contain very acidic ingredients, and sometimes rather viscous gooey stuff so you will be seeing through a haze similar to egg whites maybe. Ear drops are more potent and meant to penetrate the thicker layer of skin and stay put in your ear canal, so your delicate eyes should never be subjected to these medications. But your question is the opposite. I say go ahead and put those eye drops in your ears! The eyes are far more delicate and drops for the eyes are composed of ingredients that are carefully balanced to avoid any potential damage to fragile tissue like your corneas. Your ear holes can handle that.Your motives? I won't question. You don't want to play doctor and cause antibiotic resistance or other problems and damage any of your sense organs…. Or do you?

Can doxycycline be used for an ear infection along with Cipro ear drops?

It would be most unlikely to do you any good and could well be harmful. You should discuss this with your doctor of course, but ciprofloxacin drops are best kept for pseudomonas infection, which is not susceptible to doxycycline. To help your ear infection:Make sure you use the drops as prescribed.Ensure the drops get well into the ear by lying with the affected ear up for several minutes after instilling drops.Keep your ears drySee your doctor if you are not improving after a week - ask if a suction clearance would help. Some ear infections can be very difficult to treat and may need an extended course of drops so if you are not getting better, keep using the drops up to your medical appointment.

I can't get ear drops to go down for my ear infection?!?

Three things:

1) It probably seems like all the liquid's coming back out because your ear canal isn't absorbant; all you're trying to do is coat the ear canal/drum with the liquid. Even one drop of the ear drop fluid is way more than it takes to do that, and so it's inevitable thank you'll get some return when you tip your head back up. I'd be concerned if you didn't; it'd mean that you were pouring fluid straight into your brain!

2) That being said, it can sometimes be difficult to get the drops right down there. I had a vicious ear infection last year (you have my sympathies, I had no idea something that sounded so common could be so excruciatingly painful), and my doctor recommended that i push cotton wool, the loose kind rather than a cotton bud, down into my ear canal and then soak it with the ear drops. You'll end up using much more of the drops, but it'll ensure that the cotton wool soaked with the ear drops is in contact with the infected part of the ear. I think some kinds of ear drops even come with cotton wool for this purpose.

3) The best way to open up your ear canal isn't to pull down on your earlobe, it's to reach over the top of your head with the arm on the opposite side of your infected ear and pull up on the top of your ear. It's how you're meant to insert ear plugs. I work in the mining industry and have to wear these things all the time. Trust me, it's far easier to open up your ear canal this way.

Good luck. Ear infections suck.

How effective is doxycycline for treating an ear infection?

Disclaimer: Do not rely on medical advice received over the internet. Please consult with a medical professional in person.Doxycycline is a prescription antibiotic medication indicated for the treatment of the following infections and diseases: Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus fever and the typhus group, Q fever, rickettsialpox, and tick fevers, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections. It is effective to an extent but better options like antibiotic ear drops are preferred, usually ofloxacin (Floxin Otic and generic) or ciprofloxacin-dexamethasone (Ciprodex). Oral antibiotics may also be prescribed. Possible oral antibiotics for ear infection include Amoxicillin - it is the most common antibiotic prescribed for ear infections. If you suffered from hearing loss due to infection then go ahead with hearing loss treatment which is very much important for everyone who suffers from ear problem.Ear infections can affect the ear canal or the middle ear.Acute otitis externa (AOE) is the scientific name for an infection of the ear canal, which is also called swimmer’s ear.Middle ear infections are called Otitis Media, and there are two types of middle ear infections:Otitis Media with Effusion (OME) occurs when fluid builds up in the middle ear without pain, pus, fever, or other signs and symptoms of infection.Acute Otitis Media (AOM) occurs when fluid builds up in the middle ear and is often caused by bacteria, but can also be caused by viruses.

What antibiotics are used for an inner ear infection? I have a friend who's been suffering with it for weeks, and the doctor told him you don't use an antibiotic for an inner ear infection, you just wait for it to go away.

How does the friend know that it is an infection? The inner ear is not visible on an examination, and infection cannot be diagnosed with X rays or an MRI or CT or bloodwork. There can be many causes for inner ear problems, all of which result in dizziness. Allergies, infections entering the inner ear from the middle ear, tumors, swellings can all cause dizziness, as can some drugs, alcohol, and low blood pressure. Antibiotics are only good against bacteria, not all kinds of infections, and the inner ear is pretty isolated from the blood supply so even if the infection was bacterial (which cannot be proven), the antibiotic may not even reach the area. If the person wants a second opinion, he should ask his doctor for a referral to an ear nose and throat specialist.

Ear Infection: Dr said I had blisters on ear drum?

You won't know if the true extent of the hearing loss or if it's permanent until your TM (ear drum) is healed. Depends on if there's scarring. I can't diagnose you but I can tell you that the condition of blisters on the TM is called myringitis, it's caused by both bacteria and viruses and it's always associated with otitis media (middle ear infection). But which Pseudomonas bacteria is at fault? I'm guessing P. aeruginosa because it's very opportunistic and it causes infections. If the drainage from your ear was blue-green, then it's P. aeruginosa. And the color of the drainage would've been the most telling thing you could have described. I think your ID doctor must have suspected this based on the drainage when she/he prescribed ciprofloxacin (Cipro). It's a tough microbe to treat. You and your doctor have to be even more persistent than the bacteria.

The popping sound you hear when you swallow is coming from the eustachian tube. What you hear is your esutachian tube trying to accommodate to changes in pressure, and this is good. I can't tell you how long you'll have myringitis -- I don't know how severe this is.

Some trials have found that mucolytics, i.e. Mucinex, didn't significantly improve conditions such as yours. Sudafed alone or generic pseuoephedrine is better than Robitussin or Mucinex. Sudafed is a decongestant and has a drying effect. It may help with your other ear as well. Keep water out of your ears at all times.

"Does anyone how long it takes for the blisters to heal?? When should I go back to the ENT doctor, since he didn't say? Will my hearing get better? Should i still be feeling so dizzy and fatigued after all this time?" -- These are all questions you should be asking the ENT. Make the call.

"I've noticed my other ear has started sounding clogged, some, off and on, as well." -- This is something your ENT needs to be aware of.
