I Have A New Computer

Should I repair or get a new computer?

As a computer repair business we often recommend customers NOT TO repair their computer, but to buy a new computer. In fact it is so common now we have written a very detailed page just on when to repair or replace a computer.Basically we understand that the price of computers is now creeping up to the price of repairs - obviously depending upon the repair. We are also reluctant to replace an expensive hardware component on a machine that is over five years…. The last thing we or the customer wants is to have them come back in a few months time with another major component failure. In this case we recommend replacing rather than repairing - if the machine is not something very special and very expensive to replace…For general computer users really an average PC, laptop and even Mac over five years it is definitely worth considering replacing rather than repairing. We do try to encourage customers if they are looking for a new PC to allow us to custom build a computer them as most PC’s these days come bloated with software that is not used and just slows down the performance of the machine. Also we use quality components that we know are durable and cost-effective.The major problem people are having these days with replacing machines is that they come with Windows 10 and a lot of people do not want to change. One of the major problems with Windows 10 is the enforced updates that can contain bugs in them…Rambling on a bit here, there are many factors to take into account but they are all listed in the Pros and Cons contained in the page Repair or Replace, link above.

What should I buy a new phone or computer?

See, the answer to this question depends on your age, usage and especially the things you are doingIf you are a student then you must have a smartphone because it helps you the most by getting you connected by each and every thing but as mentioned earlier, as per your usage and need, it might be that you need a laptop. And if you are doing a technical course, like me then you need the both, as money is always the problem only one thing can be purchsed, I would recommend you to buy a smartphone, but soon you need to buy a laptop too, start saving from now onwards.Hope your question is answeredRegards

I have no money and I need a new computer quick!!?

OK, so I am on my computer about eight hours a day. I am a student keeps all my homework and notes electronic. I also work from home though my computer which means I have to take it EVERYWHERE with me. I have a massive collection of music and videos (well I think it is massive). So I want a portable, easy to use, durable, light, computer with excessive memory and speed (if I am going to be on it all the time). I have a job, but not the money to afford me this dream computer (I might be able to save $600 in two months, so that might be my un-aided budget). Should I get a loan (I am a student)? If I do this I would like to pay it off as quick as I can (so I don't want to have to pay a fine if I start to pay if off before I graduate). I was thinking that a mac would fit me really well, but I am not married to the idea. OH, and my current computer is on its last leg, it keeps giving me the blue screen so I need to try and get this computer in the next couple months .

Already have Windows on a SSD. New computer came with it installed on a HDD. How to change?

I bought a new prebuilt computer today and salvaged my 2 SSD's from my old computer. The prebuilt came with Windows installed on its HDD. With my 2 SSD's in, I have 2 installations of windows but only one being recognized and booted from. How do I change it to where I can tell the computer "Don't boot the OS installed on the HDD, boot the OS that's installed on the SSD"? Please and thanks.

If I have an Office 365 account and buy a new computer with windows 10, will I have free access to Microsoft Office?

This depends on the license assigned to you by your organization administrator in case of O365 for business subscriptions, or on Office 365 subscription you personally have in case of O365 for home subscriptions.Office 365 for business:Office 365 Business Essentials does not include desktop applicationsOffice 365 Business and Office 365 Business Premium do includeAvailability on other plans (ProPlus, Enterprise E* and so on) may vary Best way to know exact assigned license is to speak to your organization administratorOffice 365 for home:Office 365 Home gives you desktop Office applications you can install on FIVE computers (PC or Mac). These 5 can be shared with family.Office 365 Personal gives you same Office suite for ONE computer. If you are subscribed to O365 Home or Personal, the starting point is  https://stores.office.com/myacco... you will see available installations and other info thereWindows 10 and login method/name do not prevent you from installing Office, if you have one. In case of personal Office 365 you go to that page, log in, get small  C2C online installer, run it while online, wait, and then log in to Office using your Office 365 credentials. In case of business Office 365, installers are available at https://portal.office.com/OLS/My... (Office desktop suite, OneDrive for Business, Skype for Business). That page requires you to log in with you Office 365 credentials. This will work fine if you log in to Win10 with Microsoft account, or with local account. And last thing to mention - if you are buying new PC as replacement, and your subscription only has one allowed installation that is already used, you can deactivate installation on old PC old and use that 'slot' for new installation. That's the power of subscriptions compared to CD-keys

How often should a person purchase a new computer?

That depends on what you need it to do.If your computer still does what you need it to do, you don’t need to replace it.If it can be repaired or upgraded to keep it doing what you need it to do repair or upgrade it.If repair or upgrade would not get it to do what you need it to do or would be too expensive or laborious to be worth fixing or upgrading, then replace it.When you replace it, make sure you bring the old computer to an electronics recycling place or find another task it can do.

Can I insert my old hard drive into my new computer and have it working without reinstalling Windows?

Doing something like that is not supported (ie. don't call tech support if it doesn't work), but generally works pretty well, especially with newer OS's like Windows 7.  Make sure that you're transferring the HD between computers with similar processor architectures (ie. don't transfer 64-bit Windows onto a 32-bit processor). If you really want it to work without "re-installing", you can run the sysprep /generalize command, which will reset Windows to its default "out of box" state. You'll lose all of your user settings, but your installed programs will remain. DO NOT do this without reading up on it and fully understanding the consequences.(note: This is my personal response based on my experience, and is not an official response from Microsoft.
