I Have A One Sided Overbite Can You Help

Overbite only on one side of mouth?

I seem to have an overbite on just one side of my mouth(right) and it causes me to have a really awkward bite. Prior to this I experienced one night of waking up multiple times with my jaws clenching, couldn't tell if I was grinding, but nonetheless it seems as this slight overbite only on one side could be because of this. So if you could imagine the top jaw being lined up with the bottom teeth on the left but the top jaw seems to go out farther on the right side. Basically what I'm asking is, is it possible to have it only on one side of the mouth and if so how is this treated?

I'm going to the dentist tomorrow but would just like some feedback before I go in.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

What causes an overbite?

Dear HeyImKristen,

An overbite is when the teeth overlap more than normal vertically, up and down direction. Some good images are on the first web site below.

Orthodontist are not sure of the cause but some of us think that Thumb sucking is very important but few of us think that wisdom teeth are. We think that wisdom teeth come through at about the same time as some teeth become crooked, more of a coincidence that the cause of any problems and we have done experiments taking out some one side and not the other side and it makes little difference.

A great deal depends how you rest your mouth and jaws, people who hang their mouths open usually have more problems generally and when things are not right you tend to reflect how your genes are.

I hope that this helps,

Mike

Can slight overbite only on one side cause facial asymmetry?

I had braces for two years and I got them off a couple of months ago. Before I had an overbite. Also I think before I got braces my face was not asymmetric. Recently my orthodontist told me that I still had a slight over bite on one side, I think it was my right but I'm not sure. My asymmetry really pronounced in pictures and videos, you can tell I have a very very asymmetric face. Both sides of my face look completely different. My nose is crooked, and my cheeks are not the same. Also when I smile my chin points more on one side than the other. And my lips are crooked as well. My eyes are out of line too, and basically the both sides of my face look completely DIFFERENT. Like I said I never noticed this in pictures of me when i was younger. I'm 15 now. Could this possibly be because of my overbite?

How can you fix an overbite without braces?

Hiā€¦overbite can be dental or skeletal which can be easily diagnosed by an orthodontist. If u have dental overbite then only solution is with braces;but if u have skeletal overbite problem then type of treatment rendered depends upon various factors like your age, your facial growth pattern, your skeletal maturity, etc. In these skeletal problems if at an early age before patient reaches maturity or puberty with favourable growth pattern; we can go for bite opening appliances and so no braces will be required as problem is completly skeletal.but after you attain maturity then best solution is orthognathic surgery (braces+surgery) or a camoflauge type of treatment where we mask the actual problem with efficient use of braces
