I Have A Painful Lump In My Neck

What is this hard painful lump in my hairline?

I just noticed a lump on the back of my head in my hairline behind my left ear. It isn’t super painful but when it gets touched I definetly know it’s there. My sister looked at it and didn’t think it looked like a pimple. I have been getting a lot of acne that is deep u see the skin so it very well could be that. I have had drainage off and on so it could be a swollen lymph node. I did have a really bad migraine that caused me not to be able to speak or understand words the other day so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. 16 years old and very active. Football player. Somebody tell me it’s not cancer! Appreciate the answers!

Painful lump on neck...Lymph node?

i am a pediatric nurse and part of the territory is being around sick kids all the time. if i get a bug from one of the kids and get really sick then my lymph node in that same area gets big too. it is also painful to touch. along your jaw line and in your neck are lots of lymph nodes. they are kinda home base for the army men cells in your body that fight off infection. sometimes though they can get big and sore even if your arent sick. that just means that your body is doing a good job fighting off the germs it comes in contact with. do you have any more large bumps in your groin or under your arms? if you have a lot of them or it is bigger than a small marble then you need to be concerned and get it checked out by a doctor. if it is just the one small one....keep and eye on it and go to the doctor if it changes. :)

What could cause a painful lump on my neck?

Chances are that it's a swollen Lymph Node. There are nodes all over your body, but the first to swell are usually the ones around the head and neck area. There are two major ones right below your earlobes on your neck that are usually the first to swell. Also feel around the base of your neck in the back, chances are you'll feel two smaller versions swollen back there as well.

Don't panic, a swollen lymph node in the neck area usually means there is an old infection or new infection festering that area of your body. It can be anything from an old Sinus Infection that didn't clear or even Wisdom Tooth issues.

If it's a larger infection like Mono, for example, all the lymph nodes in your body will be swollen too (signifying a much larger infection). My point being, yes see the doctor, but that is probably what it is and will only require a cheap antibiotic to take care of it.

Even things like getting your ears pierced can make them swell. They're like the flashing red lights telling you something "foreign" is in your body.

Very painful lump on neck after dying hair?

The swollen occipital/auricular lymph node may be from some allergic reaction to the chemicals you used. Don't use that brand again.

It is normal for a lymph node to react this way in the face of an allergic response. You may want to take some antihistamine and see if that helps the node to relax and go down. The soreness is normal and a sign of a healthy and functioning lymph node, so don't worry about that.

Give the swollen node 1-8 weeks to fully resolve. See your doctor if it gets any larger, more lymph nodes swell up, or if you develop other symptoms such as fever, cough, lethargy, loss of appetite etc. I'd bet you'll be fine after a few days.
Best Wishes

Why do I have a lump in my neck?

There are many things that could manifest as a lump in your body. It could be a harmless lipoma to a malignant lymphoma. There are some features that may suggest that a lump is malignant or not. If it has fast onset and rapid growth; If it has hard consistency; If it is adhered to deep tissues (rather than mobile), the chances of it being malignant are greater. But that's not enough for you to sleep peacefully at night.Anyway it is highly recommended that you seek a doctor to assess fully the lump, perhaps with imaging and biopsy. It would be irresponsible to rely solely on information you got from strangers on the internet.

I have a marble sized painful lump on left side of neck, what is this?

You probably have an infection causing a lymph node to swell.

Swollen Lymph Nodes Symptoms

The symptoms of swollen lymph nodes depend upon both the location and cause of the enlargement.
Patients may experience symptoms of an upper respiratory infection (runny nose, sore throat, fever) and feel slightly tender nodes under the skin around the ears, under the chin, or on the upper part of the neck.

Self-Care at Home
If a person has symptoms of a cold or other minor infection for which they may or may not take antibiotics, give the nodes about two weeks to return to normal. No specific treatment is needed.

If the nodes are small (less than 2 cm or 3/4 of an inch), are in the groin or under the chin, and you are a young adult, this is considered normal.
Children tend to have a more active lymphatic system, so their nodes may feel enlarged.

What is this large painful lump/mass I have under the skin on the back of my neck?

You can expect your visit to the doctor to be a combination of history’taking (asking questions like, How long has it been there? What intensifies the pain? What alleviates the pain? Have you associated it with a fever, or an injury? Does moving your back or neck in a particular direction affect it? How about a wound, like a splinter, bug bite, dog bite, or fall? Have you traveled? Have you been near someone with a contagious condition? Did you try anything to remedy it already?) and physical exam.Expect an exam to see if it's red, warm, firm, or fluctuant. Is it open and draining? If it runs along the length of a muscle, it may just be a knotted or spasmed muscle.Perhaps, a choice will need to be made. Would he think its a boil that was ready to be drained, by incision? Maybe, it’s a benign tumor, like a lipoma that can be watched, and not biopsied. Is it growing so quickly, that an imaging study, like a CT scan will be ordered, to put the internal structures around it in perspective. Does it communicate with the spine? Is it hollow like a cyst, less dense then a muscle, maybe a lymph node. Or is it just too vague, and biospsy, for tissue to examine by pathology, is necessary. There is the classic, ‘I have a sore area on my neck’ complaint, that turns out to be the prominent spinous process of the 7th Cervical vertebra. It's always been there, but the poor fellow who reaches back to rub it, becomes convinced that it's something that wasn't there previously, and his obsessive mind won’t let it go. Folks, it not as funny as all that, just human nature to be alarmed by not understanding the body.

Painful neck lumps after gauge/ear stretching?

I dunno, I get these as well. I have mine guaged at a 0 and randomly I get these weird hard lumps behind my ears on my neck, usually when i sleep on my ears wrong... Flu Shot and Lump in Neck?

I got a flu shot on wend. My arm was very very sore for about two days after that (Usual, I know) but then I woke up and realized my pain had moved to the base of my neck where I discovered I had a lump on my skin on the base of my neck. It is sat. and there's no doctors open besides one about an hour away, but I am wondering if it is something to worry about or maybe a side affect to the shot. (which I have had one before when I was pregnant back in 2009 and did not have any problems with it.) Has anyone else had this problem before? Thank all help will be appreciated and I will get it checked out by doctor Monday if it is still there.
