I Have A Question About My Hamster

Hamster Cage Question?

Hi!

Well, you are in luck today! We had the exact same home you did (my daughter chose the purple base, with the white bars) and the exact same hamster breed (a male syrian, named Sam) She is chewing on the bars, because her teeth are growing, and she needs to keep them filed or they will get too long, and pierce her jaw! So, wood sticks, a wooden house or something wood that she can chew on is a MUST.

I wouldnt worry with a tube with tunnels. While they are cute, and fin for the hamsters, they are realy hard to clean if the hamster poops inside the tunnel. They also do not get good air flow inside the tubes. As long as she has a wheel, she will get just as much exercise there. Some treats you can give her are fruit, cheese, and doggy biscuits. She will love these. Also, the cage should fit her just fine, even fully grown, as long as there is a wheel, and a house big enough for her to sleep in, she wont mind the cozy little home.

Do not ever put another hamster in with her, she isnt lonely, and she will kill another hamster, Syrian hamsters do NOT do well with other's once they are matured.

Just make sure she gets lots of socialization, exercise, good clean bedding, love, good food, and wet tail medicine, and she will be around for many many years.

Also, there is poly-fill bedding available for hamsters, and my hamsters LOVE this, its like soft cotton you put in their cage, and its so cute to see them carry it around, working so hard to make a nice little bed!

I have a question about my hamsters wheel..?

It sounds like fluid from the scent gland. It is nothing to worry about, but nothing you can do other than what you already are, either. With does the secretions are associated with the estrous cycle whereas with bucks it is associated with territorial marking. Details on what a healthy scent gland is like as well as signs of an unhealthy one follow:

Do you have an utility tub or large pail you can use to soak the wheels? It will make it much easier on you so you need not have to scrub so hard if at all if you can let them sit in the soapy water for awhile. I wash 10 Wodent Wheels nightly, and it really helps to let them soak in the utility tub for an hour before rinsing/drying.

Excellent choice on the wheel, by the way. The Saucer Wheel and Wodent Wheel are considered the safest. Also, solid floors are best for rodents so their feet do not get hurt. You probably know this, though, since you are using one.

Hamster Question!! My hamster got bit by ants..........?

He got bit on his ear, like a month ago, at first his ear got red and started to get dried, he was scratching a lot. I applied some liquid antibiotic and it began to look better. Now, a month after, I just notice that there is a lump stiking out of his ear. I'm worried because I don't know what it is. Any suggestions?

Hamster questions - please read?

I have five hamsters in my room, and they all run for hours on end each night. But, I'm used to the sound of their wheels, and if you're not a light sleeper you should be fine (it takes a little getting used to of course). Any room is okay for a hamster cage, as long as it isn't near a window or drafty/breezy area (hamsters can get sick easily from wind chills).

Your hamster may get nervous the first few times it hears your hair dryer, but they learn very quickly what sounds in their environment are dangerous and what ones aren't (just like he'll recognize your voice as his source of food and playtime).

Before deciding on getting a hamster, do your research. The initial set-up of cage, supplies, food, toys, and animal is usually around $60-$100 (toward the higher, if you get a proper sized cage). And though they seem easy to take care of, they require fresh food and water every day, completely clean and sanitized weekly, and daily attention. Also, if your hamster gets sick or hurt, it's your responsibility to get it proper vet care, which can get very expensive (not to mention truly good, healthy food for them is about $13 a bag, which lasts about a month). Getting any animal is something that needs thinking and planning.

Dumb question: should I change my hamster's name?

My little sister decided that she didn't want her hamster anymore and gave her to me. I love her so, so, so much, but her nam is Moose. I mean, who names their hamster Moose? I really want to change her name, but she's had it for so long and it has kinda grown on her. Idk man, should I change it?

I have a question about my hamsters bedding. plz help!?

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT US NEWSPAPER!!!!! You can use any kind of wood shavings as long as the wood was not treated or never use ceder or pine when breeding. very unhealthy and may give your pet a resporitory infection. you can always put unsented toilet paper a cardbourd box of any kind for a nest and lots of things to chew which will eventually become bedding. I would keep em in a warm area untill it gets a good bed going. You can paper towels as well or white paper. JUST NOT NEWSPAPER. the fresh ink is very bad for them.

How do you get someone to get you a hamster?

Some kid was neglecting his hamster, so his Aunt (don’t ask me why her) asked if we’d like it, even though we had cats in the house. So, that’s how we got the little cutie Spike.

How do I get my hamster to shut up?

(After I wrote this, I saw there was more to your question. Since I generally take a long time to answer a question, to begin with, I’m going to leave it instead of spending several more hours on it.)I'm guessing you're referring to a hamster behavior, not that it's reciting Walt Whitman or singing arias. If so, what behavior is it displaying that is driving you bonkers? The wheel spinning around? Chewing on the cage? Digging? Doing it all at night so you can't sleep?Don't blame the hamster. If your hamster is keeping you from sleeping by chewing on its cage, digging, running in a wheel, or just rattling around in there, it's just being a normal hamster stuck in a cage. The poor little thing is bored out of its mind. They're nocturnal, so most of their action happens at night, when you're trying to sleep. It digs, rattles and runs because it has nothing else to do. How do you think you would feel under those circumstances? If putting your hamster in another room is not an option, and your closet isn't large enough for his cage, if the problem is a noisy wheel, get a quieter one. Those metal ones are terrible; so are a lot of the plastic wheels. The “Silent Runner” from Exotic Nutrition Company — Exercise Wheels — isn't too bad —I started using one for my sugar gliders a few months ago— but nothing is perfect. If it were a perfect world, your hamster would be running free somewhere in Asia or Europe, not stuck in a cage.If you have to keep the hamster in your room, the only thing you can change here is you. If the problem you're having is a combination of all the noises I mentioned, try running a fan on high —not pointed in the hamster’s direction— while you're sleeping. The white noise created by a fan works well in masking outside noises, so it might help with your hamster noises. Hopefully it will work in your case. To be extra careful, drape something over the hamster’s cage so it doesn't get subjected to the draft created by the fan.

Should I get a hamster ball for my hamster?

Yes, he or she might like it. Get other toys too.
