What is the immunity duration between PrEP and PEP rabies vaccine? The vet said PEP has more immunity and permanent (4 or 5 shots) than PrEP. Is that true?

No.Vaccine is same.Purpose of vaccination is same.Only difference is in schedule. In pre exposure prophylaxis, we are not in hurry but in post exposure we are.Effect is same and therefore duration of immunity developed is also the same.

Is the rabies vaccine boosters take time to activate like the primary rabies vaccine?

Activation should occur as soon as your immune system, which is already primed, gets the taste of dead rabies virus in your blood. Your system should, as I understand it, immediately kick up the level of antibody production. It will take time for the increased antibody level to peak.Believe the MDs such as Dr. Liang Hai Sie who have already answered your basic question. Go to the Mayo Clinic or the CDC sites for general background information so you won't continue to be so confused. If you have a medical concern hidden behind you question, Quora is not the place to get it resolved. Go to an MD.

How do I find primary sources about the polio vaccine and anything else that relates to it?

Need to find some primary info about how the polio vaccine had an impact and change on the world. Since a lot of people around that time are dead, I haven't been very successful with an interview. Also, is a secondary source with primary pictures considered a primary source?

A question about feline vaccines?

There are four core vaccines for felines. "Core" means that these are recommended for ALL cats.
1.) Feline Panleukopenia
2.) Feline rhinotracheitis (herpes virus)
3.) Feline Calici Virus
4.) Rabies
Different vets offer these vaccines different ways. In your case, the PRCPL is probably a couple of the core vaccines in one. It seems as if your vet offers the core vaccines plus the feline leukemia, which is a non core vaccine. As for the clinic, they have some additional non cores. You shoud ask your vet to educate you on what may be best for your cat. A big factor is the cat's environment.

Prescription needed for meningococcal vaccine?

I got it from student health services without ever seeing a physician. They had some nurses giving the vaccine.

You do need a prescription for the vaccine if the physician's office is not supplying it, and you have to buy it at a pharmacy. If the physician/nurse is giving the vaccine in the office than you don't need a written prescription.
Some states also have a public health prescription. The chief physician of the state public health service writes up a general prescription in which you can use to give anyone the vaccine. That is what pharmacies use during the flu season to give the flu vaccine without a prescription.

How long does a rabies vaccine grant immunity for?

Vaccine provide life long immunity and as per latest WHO guidelines a repeat two dose schedule of anti rabies vaccine is advised after 3 months of last dose; in case of another bite/exposure to boost the antibodies level.Earlier effective immunity was considered to be lasting one year.So better take 2 doses of vaccines at 3 day interval as soon as possible. Medical science has a way to prevent Rabies but not yet to cure it.But Immunnoglobins are not needed for rest of the life.

Sort these characteristics based on whether they are best associated with a primary response or a secondary response.?

1) promoted by vaccination of an infant
2) lag in antibody production
3) IgM is the only antibody produced early in the response
4) Occurs upon exposure to pathogen after vaccination
5) IgG is produced later in the response
6) Promoted by exposure to pathogen in an unvaccinated individual
7) Occurs after the second exposure to the pathogen
8) Extremely rapid antibody production
9) IgE is produced early in the response

I put 1-5 in primary response and 6-9 in secondary response, but i think two of them are in the wrong spot

Can we get rabies even after proper vaccination? I get rabies shot every 3 years, can I still contract the disease?

the short answer is yes.pre-exposure vaccinations and subsequent boosters are given based on risk of exposure to the virus. those who are in the ‘continuous’ risk category require the primary dose of vaccines. this consists of a series of 3 shots given on day 0, day 7 and day 21 or 28. after that, they should get a serum (liquid part of the blood) test to measure their level of rabies antibody. if the level of antibody is too low, they should receive a booster shot. the booster is a single dose of the rabies vaccinethose in the ‘frequent’ risk category should receive the same primary vaccinations and then have a serum test every 2 years. if the rabies antibody titer is too low, they should receive the booster shot.only the primary course of 3 vaccinations is required for those in the ‘infrequent’ category. no further testing or boosters are necessary. last is the ‘rare’ category. which is the population, at large, in the united states. no vaccination is necessary.pre-exposure vaccinations do NOT eliminate the need for treatment should someone be exposed to rabies. you CAN still contract rabies even if you have received them.however, they do make post-exposure treatment management easier. there is no need for the post-exposure rabies immune globulin dose and the number of post-exposure vaccinations is decreased. the pre-exposure vaccination also provide some protection in case post-exposure treatment is delayed. this is important because in many areas where rabies is widespread immunizing products are not easily accessible and there have been cases of inferior biological products being used, causing an increase in adverse events.
