Can tooth ache lead to cheek swelling?
When your tooth gets bad it becomes abscessed and a swollen jaw is a symptom. I had a cracked wisdom tooth that, finally shown the final stages of being so bad that it had to be pulled. My jaw swollen up and the dentist told me that they couldn't pull it until I got some antibiotics to get rid of the infection that caused the swelling. I even got a case of "lockjaw" cause, I couldn't open my jaw more than 3/4 of an inch. I didn't get an inner ear infection, pain in the side of my head, headaches or fever, Just had a swollen jaw and an infection like you. If the infection gets bad enough you could get an inner ear infection and some of the things you listed. You said that you recently got a "crown"? When I went to get my tooth pulled, my dentist also gave me the option to get a crown BUT I knew that the tooth was so bad that it had to go. After the dentist pulled it, She said that I made the right call and showed me the crack in the enamel, down the side of the tooth, to the root and; said that if I got the crown it probably would have gotten reinfected and would have had to be pulled anyway. That's what happened to me... Your case may be different or it could be similar. I Don't Know... That's what happened to me, in my specific case. Regardless, I would tell the dentist the whole story about your symptoms cause it sounds like your infection has spread to your inner ear and you'll probably get some strong antibiotics to reduce the fever and get rid of the infection... along with plenty of bed-rest. Take this to heart - cause it won't do you any good to have a fever, chills etc along with a swollen jaw and a bad tooth ache.
Toothache And Now Swollen Lip!?!?
Just from the description you gave, I would guess the dentist did some form of a root canal and then put a filling in the tooth to close it up. If he did not seal the canal, but just removed the nerve, that would not be enough to keep infection from occurring. You need a root canal most likely, but first you need some antibiotic to get the infection down so the tooth can be anesthetized properly. Call a dentist today, the pain and swelling will only get worse. If the ice did not hurt your tooth, it is a dead or dying tooth. Normally a live tooth would be hypersensitive to ice being placed on it.
How long before swelling goes away for an abscessed tooth when on antibiotics?
I had a real bad toothache & went to have the tooth removed because my face began to swell and the pain was unbearable. Long story short after seeing 3 different dentists in 2 days NONE of them would remove it due to the swelling. Problem is NONE of them gave me antibiotics or pain killers either. I went to the ER in severe pain with the left side of my face swollen Thursday and explained my "catch 22" that I was getting from the dentists. They gave me Penicillin for the infection and Vicodin for the pain. Saturday the swelling was twice as bad and was spreading more so I had no choice but to go back to ER (which they fully understood why I came back). They changed my prescription to Augmentin 875mg. Problem is that it does not seem like the swelling is going down at all. How long should it take with antibiotics for the swelling to go away? I want to have the tooth extracted but no one will do that until the swelling is gone. Not only that but I am having a hard time eating and I am already underweight due to a high metabolism (and it just runs in the family) and I don't want to lose anymore weight. I have been trying to gain weight for awhile and what I had gained in the past month I have lost in the past few days with all of this. Thank you for any help.
