I Have An Overbite It

Can you have both an overbite and an under bite?

When you close your mouth and the back molars (top and bottom) fit into each other like a groove, if your top front teeth go over the bottom teeth, it's an overbite. If the bottom front teeth are pushed forward, it's an underbite. You can't really have both.

Since it seems to only happen when you're speaking or moving your jaws, it sounds more like a muscle or neurological issue -- your muscles are pushing your jaw bones a certain way causing your teeth to form an underbite and causing you to slur your words or have other speech issues.

You should definitely schedule an appointment to see your doctor because for this to just suddenly occur, something is wrong and you need to be checked out.

**ADD**
An underbite is an abnormal protrusion (jutting out) of the lower jaw, so your bottom teeth would jut out ahead of your top teeth. This is a malformation of both the jaw line and the teeth and can either be hereditary (usually) or caused by trauma (severe trauma like a broken jaw). It's not something that would just occur out of nowhere. That's why if it's happening along with the slurring of words and other speech problems, you really need to see a doctor ASAP.

Can I still get my braces off if I have an overbite?

I have a slight overbite and I go into what is HOPEFULLY my second to last appointment tomorrow. I've been wearing 2 triangles on both sides and my teeth have finally closed so i can bite down well now. They did have me wearing rubber bands from the front top to back last for maybe 6 weeks and said it looks fine. So do you think I'll be able to get them off. I don't want to sound like a stupid tween girl but I've had them on for 2 1/2 years and all my friends think they look straight. they said i would have them for 22 months. I'm also worried about white spots. any opinions would be great!

Thanks!!

I've had braces but I still have an overbite?

From what I know (almost all my friends had braces when they were really young)

You're supposed to have a slight overbite so you don't damage your teeth or something. I don't have a over or under bite and I end up grinding my teeth together. I actually have to get my front tooth fixed a little because I made a tiny chip in it from grinding. This is why you need your top teeth to be ever so slightly in front of your bottom. I'm pretty sure anyway.

I had braces for 3 years? And I still have a overbite?

I got my braces off in May 07 and I got permanent retainers that are glued on the back of my teeth and on the front teeth(You can't see them on the front, they're on the inside) So they glued them on and when I might down My two front teeth are about like 3/4 mm in the front and go down over my bottom two teeth but not completly. When I bite down the bottom back teeth (The teeth that you use to chew example gum)don't touch my top back teeth they only touch half and the teeth that are like "fangs" go over my bottom "fangs" and the bottom "fangs" stop when they hit the glued part of the retainer.

I'm sorry if that made no sense to you, but if you coud help me if this is the proper way how my teeth are suppose to be. I can't go to my orthodontist because I moved and I'm in Surrey BC and he's in Terrace/Smithers BC and I do not have a dentist here.
