I Have Been On Norco 10/325 For Over A Year And Just Had Surgery To Relieve The Pain And Now I Want

Norco 10/325s and severe uncontrollable itching?

Benadryl will help, as its an antihistamine. but im going to tell you that antihistamines will potentiate opiates. So your hydrocodone will be potentiated. i happen to study opiates. So to get most pain relief, and use less of your norco, take your dose of hydro with 25-50mg of benadryl and 2 extra strength tums.(No harmful interactions here) Those both will potentiate and lengthen the time the hydro will stay in your system, as the tums slows down the metabolism, and the opiate stays in the bloodstream for a longer period of time, sometimes even 2 hours longer. And you can def take that promethazine with all of that if you have nausea. if you dont have nausea dont take it, itll just make you tired as anything. Question 2, yes, you could ask your doc for oxycodone(percocet) 10/325. and if hes quite generous, you might can get morphine. But i see NO need to get that strong of an opiate, as i know hydrocodone or percocet will dull that pain a good bit. Good luck on your recovery.

Comparable meds to Norco 10/325?

I hand an ACL reconstruction done with a total meniscectomy done on the medial meniscus Friday and a repair to the lateral meniscus. I had a femoral nerve block done along with general anesthesia. This was an outpatient surgery. The block has worn off and I am not having any problems from that. I was given Norco 10/325 for pain. 2 tabs every 4 to 6 hours. I was also given 12.5 mg Phenergan tabs for nausea with a dose of 1 to 2 tabs every 4 to 6 hours to minimize nausea from the pain meds and post-op nausea.. I ended up speaking with the doctor on call for my surgeon on Saturday morning because I am having severe itching all over. He told me to take 2 Benadryl with every dose of the Norco and Phenergan. However, he would not change the medication to something else. I have no choice but to continue taking the pain medication so I won't end up in agony. I am still itching all over and have claw marks all over my arms, the leg not in the brace, my neck, back and chest.from where I have been scratching. I have taken Norco 10/325s before with no problems until now.

Is there something I can do to relieve some of the itching until I can reach my doctor when he opens at 8 a.m.? Also is there any medication comparable to the Norco 10/325 that my surgeon can perscribe to keep me out of severe pain so I can continue to heal from my surgery since I am obviously having some type of allergic reaction to it. I can't go without some pretty strong meds since I am only 2 days post-op from an ACL reconstruction surgery with a complete menisiscectomy of the medial menisiscus and a surgical repair of the lateral menisiscus.

Once again my questions:
1. Is there something I can do to relieve some of the itching until I can reach my doctor when he opens at 8 a.m.? keep in mind I can not get my bandages and brace on my leg wet. They have to stay dry at all times and and the bandages underr my brace must stay on until I go in to have my sutures removed
2. Also is there any medication comparable to the Norco 10/325 that my surgeon can perscribe to keep me out of severe pain?

Can i take norco and Percocet together? ?

Yes, you CAN take them together but it isn't a good idea. Taking opiate pain medications other than how you are prescribed can lead to so many problems. Your body will, over time, develop a tolerance to the pain medications. Taking meds like that together can increase your tolerance sooooooo much faster. It will take more and more and more of the opiates in your bloodstream to achieve any sort of relief.

Your doctor should increase your medication for you if you explain to him that it just isn't effective for you anymore. Or he may add an extended release medication to go with your percocet. But if you go combining meds like u suggested, your doctor will have an extremely hard time helping you to achieve a less painful life.

If I were to try ANYTHING, it would be to split one of your percocet in half and try taking 1.5 pills once or twice, but only once or twice. Doing this will effectvely give you a 7.5 mg dose of percocet, which is the next dosage level. If this works a little better for you, get an appt. With your doctor ASAP. Tell him you were desperate for relief and tried that and it was a little better. The main thing is to follow directions with these meds, they can be dangerous.

If your doctor won't presribe you the appropriate meds to improve your quality of life, find another doctor. Some are simply terrified of narcotic pain meds and the headaches the DEA can cause for them.

I know this was long, but once you start down the wrong way with opiates, it is hell getting back right again

What's more effective morphine or Norco 10/325 for pain?

Hmm... It depends.Pain isn't like the sound of a trumpet or violin. Pain is like the sound of an orchestra. There are dozens of different types of pain, and each person brings their own emotional background, resilience (or lack of it) and personality to the pain. The same injury can be perceived with different levels of pain by different people.Analgesics good for one type of pain are not always good for another. If I had surgical pain, opioids (like morphine or hydrocodone, as you mention) would be welcome. But if I had neuropathic pain, I could take either of these drugs all day (or until I became comatose) without making my pain better. So your question can't really be answered without more specificity. But the good news is that people have tried to answer your question. An evidence-based medicine think tank (who daringly call themselves Bandolier) have drawn up an analgesic League Table, boiling down the data for hundreds of papers (tens of thousands of patients) into a table which compares like with like and tells you, straight out, which ones are the best.Sure there are flaws in the table. But that's because there are flaws in the data, which isn't Bandolier's fault. It just means some analgesics are less well-studied than others. You can find the whole table (and a discussion of their methods) here:  League Table of Analgesics .

Doctor refused to refill pain medication?

Well after a polite yet concise email to him I got a response. Seems to be yet another communication issue with his staff. If he weren't such a good doctor, I'd have found another one years ago. I still recall him telling me right before my surgery back in May 2009 "Even if your insurance company refused to pay for this surgery, I would have done it for you for free because I know this is what is needed to improve your quality of life."
His staff wasn't understanding and relaying correct information to him. This is why I am the ONLY one of his patients that has direct access to him through email. Once I alerted him of the problem, it took him literally minutes to resolve it. The entire problem was not him to begin with. I should have known considering the standard of care I have received from him all this time. My meds arrived yesterday as he promised. We confirmed our previous conversations regarding my treatment plan, proposed 2nd surgery, ect. We are now back on the same page wit

How many pain killers in a day will kill you?

There is no such thing as a specific number that would answer this question. There are many different types of painkillers - NSAIDs like ibuprofen and acetaminophen, opioids like codeine and hydrocodone, are just a couple classes of painkiller drugs. Each drug has a different LD50 (the dose which would kill 50% of the population), so you would have to look it up for the particular medication you are thinking of. Then even for a particular substance, they are usually sold in various dosages. Take Tylenol (acetaminophen/paracetamol) for example. 4 grams per day is the recommended maximum safe dosage. 10+ grams can be toxic, and a dose of 25+ grams can be fatal (via liver failure). 25 grams could be 50 pills of 500mg tylenol, or it could be 77 pills of 325mg tylenol. So you see, there is no simple answer to your question. It depends on the substance, dosage, and individual.

How long does it take for a Norco 10/325 tablet to work?

Before you say anything just please read.

I'm 17 years old, i'm a male and i'm 136lbs.

Here's the story.

When I was 12 years old or so I was in a very bad car accident. I had internal bleeding in my stomach and my back was nearly broken. I was in a coma for 3 or 4 months and doctors said I probably wouldn't wake up from the coma. Well I did and I had to wear a back brace till I was about 13 or 14. I had to wear it for 6 or 7 months at least, I don't really remember. Anyway ever since then i've had very bad back pain and stomach pain, the stomach pain has gone away and it only occasionally bothers me, but no big deal. The back pain however is a different story, some days I have it, some days I don't.

I have a doctor that i've had since the age of 5 or so, he's a pediatrician and he never prescribes any medication to help me out. He believes in homeopathic stuff like those herbal supplements and stuff like that. I can understand where he's coming from, I mean, I wouldn't want to give someone my age medication like Vicodin or anything like that either, but no other medication will work.

I have tried Aleve, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, pretty much all OTC pain medication, nothing has helped, nothing. I took matters into my own hands and started learning about medicine online and started researching types of medication and learned about different types of pain and things like that. Last week I went to the doctor again and told him of my reoccurring back pain and he just did the usual thing. "Bend over, touch your toes. Good you have full motion, I believe you're just building muscle take some ibuprofen and you'll be okay" I tell him i've tried everything and nothing works but it's like talking to a wall.

I'm getting a new doctor soon because my parents feel the same way about this and before you ask, no, he does not listen to my parents either. My parents asked my aunt for some pain medication because she has lots, she gave me a bottle of Norco's with only 5 in the bottle. They're 7 years old but they work and relieve me of my back pain all day. But lately they haven't been working as well...Now I know about tolerance and stuff but one Norco used to take care of the pain all day long, now 1 Norco hardly takes care of it at all.

Is it because they're 7 years old? Please note that I have only taken 3 so far, 1, 2 weeks ago, 1, 5 days ago and 1 today.
