I Have Bulimia And Life Is Hard And It Hurts Bad

How bad is bulimia?

It can kill you - quicker than you think. See a doctor now, before it's too late.

Here's some info for you

I hope you get better soon.

Whats worse- bulimia or anorexia?

I can tell you from painful personal experience with each that although both are unimaginably terrible, bulimia is bar far worse.

Being severely anorexic for years, I nearly died, but I have now been severely bulimic for a number of years. In attempt to recover from anorexia, I only developed bulimia because my eating disorder condition is so severe... I'm the type of case you hear about that is expected never to 'recover'.

The thing about anorexia is that though of course you are not healthy, you are not as unhealthy as a bulimic (assuming you still eat a tad as an anorexic things like tomatoes, lettuce, broccoli, a vitamin). Additionally, there is such a strong sense of pride associated with anorexia, it is hard to describe to someone who hasn't experienced.

In contrast, the bulimic feels only deep shame, regret and hate for herself because (usually) she is not thin and that is what she wants. She does not feel the pride of an anorexic, the satisfaction of thin that an anorexic does, nor is her life as easy as the anorexic's.

Now, don't get me wrong, anorexia is a hell of its own, it is a nightmare, it is absolutely horrific and indescribable. But, bulimia is somehow worse.

Bulimia interrupts your life - have to barf all the time - it bogs you down with hating yourself, feeling ashamed and disgusted, dealing with puke so many times a day, the horrible spells of electrolyte imbalance, the danger of death by stomach distention and rupture, the swollen face and glands, the expense of binge food, the shame when your family has to hide food from you, the embarrassment when someone in your household sees all the food has disappeared.

Bulimia is as close to hell as I can imagine, and I only wish I could be anorexic again. I don't even remember what it feels like to be 'normal' as I had been with anorexia since age 8, and bulimia since age 16.

Both are horrific, both are hell, both are something I can't bear to imagine others having to bear. Yet, bulimia is by far the worse of two evils.

Bulimic ballerina?

Yes, it IS bad. I was bulimic for a few years. You don't control this... it controls you. I have had alot of problems with my teeth since then, and have had to have crowns on some. I now have problems with acid reflux. Bulimia upsets your body's electrolyte balance and messes up alot of your biological processes. You will not have the stamina that you need to perform dance.

I haven't been bulimic for over 20 years... and I STILL have problems with things that the bulimia left me with. Do you really want to be dealing with issues caused by bulimia in 20 years? If you can - stop now. If you can't stop - get help! NOW!

Nose bleeds associated with bulimia?

bulimia's bad. did you know it literally tears the lining of your esophagus? You know that burning feeling you get in your throat when you throw up? The reason you even feel that burning sensation is so you'll spit that stomach-acid covered crap up or swallow it again.

Also may I point out that though you feel it burning in your throat, but it actually does more damage to overrun vomit through your esophagus? It causes damage that, over time, can become permanent and lead to esophageal cancer.

Your nose bleeds are either caused by weakened or severed blood vessels and is indirectly related to the bulimic episodes, or caused by dehydration, which is directly related to bulimia. Vomit runs into the mouth and partially the nose, literally burning the tissue it passes. Like I said, tissue in your esophagus is damaged, but tissue in the nose can wear thin and result in nosebleeds as your body tries to repair the thinning. I can't stress the dangers of bulimia enough. If you burn enough tissue in the esophagus, soon you'll be spitting blood too.

Seriously, just work back up to eating 3 squares a day, and join a gym

Should i not take sleeping pills if i'm bulimic?

I have been bulimic for a little over a year and lately cannot sleep because i have always had a hard time falling asleep. I was going to take a sleeping pill but i got very paranoid and i'm worried i wont wake up if i take it... if i only take one pill (calls for 2) do you think i'll be fine? thanks!

How many years does it take for someone to die from severe bulimia on average?

Bulimia can kill someone sooner than you think. It is extremely random, like drunk driving. Some people can drunk drive every day for decades and never get pulled over, never get into an accident, and others will get killed on their very first incident. Bulimia is like that. There are some who die sooner than others. The most common way that bulimia kills is due to an electrolyte imbalance - where purging and purging throws your sodium, potassium and fluids all out of balance, which can create a potential lethal arrhythmia which can then cause cardiac arrest and death.. The less common but still possible way to die from bulimia is busting open your esophagus (known as bleeding varices) from purging constantly. Purging daily, even only a few times a day can be deadly for some people within a relatively short time. My bulimic clients think I’m kind of a jerk when I refer them to a higher level care when they can’t reduce their bingeing and refuse to see an MD to get their electrolytes checked. They feel as though I’m rejecting them. The truth is— I know how deadly bulimia can be and I don’t want to risk anyone dying because I had a laissez faire attitude to purging. Unfortunately, many doctors don’t know the implications of this because they don’t see it often enough. I once had a client almost die at only 25 years old after only a few months of binging and purging. She actually had a heart attack while taking a shower. She didn’t die, but it took that for her to understand that her bulimia would kill her.You should check out Andrea’s Voice. This is an organization started by a woman whose daughter died in a relatively short time (less than a year) due to bulimia. Her message is that no amount of bulimia is okay. Eating Disorders: How can you tell if a (possibly) bulimic girl is vomiting in the shower?

As an experienced bulimic, there are a few more things I am always careful to hide or think of excuses.- Red eyes right after vomitting - "I was just taking my make-up off"- Full nose right after vomitting- Bruises on (right) hand from the teeth - "I don't know what's going on with me, I'm so clumsy lately"- "Getting shower" right after a meal - "Why is that weird, what's wrong with you, people?!"- Awful smell in the toilet - "I don't know what I ate so bad today"- Often complaining about acid in stomack- Lot of high-caloric food missing after being left alone at home - "Why would I eat that, I don't even like that particular food" or "I'm about to get period so I'm hungry all the time"- Loud and often burping- Usually feeling depressed after going out of the toilet- Eating very little when people are looking - "I'm just not that hungry today" or "I feel sick today, I must have eaten something bad last night"- Being addicted to chewing gums (to take mind off of food)- Being addicted to sugar-free candies (to take mind off of food)- Playing loud music in the shower (to hide the sounds)- Traces of vomitt on the toilet role- Traces of vomitt on the floor or carpet- Pain in the neck (from holing your head often in an uncomfortable position)- Drinking water right after shower- Often drinking milk (to neutralize acid in stomack)- Very often drinking water or other low-caloric drinks (to take mind off of food and make her feel full)Other indicators:- Very fast weight loss- Low self-esteem- Obsessed with weight- People (celebrities) that she finds beautiful are mostly underwaight- She feels uncomfortable talking about food or weight or she talks about it all the timeHope this helps a bit.
