I have a question about Tracfone mobile web services?
If I were to purchase the LG 840 g phone for example how much airtime would I be charged for going on the internet. I read that it deducts half an airtime minute for every minute on, does this apply to this phone too. I also read on their website that the mobile web browser can only go on sites listed on their mobile web list. Is this true? Am I limited to only certain websites? Can I not use google to browse the web and go on websites that aren't on their list? Basically can anyone tell me about their recent internet experiences with tracfone. Thanks for any help.

How do you use a TracFone SIM card in an unlocked phone?

Franko had the best answer of them all…While you can switch your sim to a compatible phone and it will call and access data, etc; the cs rep at tracfone stated that there might/will be problems later as tracfone will still have the old esn tied to that sim. So temporarily switching sims will work….The correct procedure is to buy a new sim kit (Bestbuy $1) and call tracfone to register that new sim to the new phone’s esn. It seems that the sim is “married” to the first phone it is assigned to, thus a new esn requires a new sim to avoid problems later on.The only question I have is why you would want to use TracPhone anyway? They are one of the worst value phone plans around, and are not the easiest company to deal with…they are known primarily for cheap “burner” phones with expensive talk plans. Port your number to a legitimate company like MetroPCS and get a couple free months of service or a free phone (depending on what promotion they have at the moment) and you will be much better off…

The models that do not use sim cards to connect to a network typically utilizeVerizon or U.S. Cellular. Most Motorola models utilize AT&T, while most LG phones utilize Sprint or T-Mobile. Verizon uses…CDMA network while Sprint uses GSM….With that said, If Verizon accepts your phone ( If compatible) it will work however, this is where it gets tricky, because the law says, you can switch any phone to any provider they didn't take into the account the chipset’s….each providers logo and message center number is burned into the chipset so that means that your phone will accept txt messages, but may not send them etc…so in nutshell, some functions may not work…You may be able to…as, you put it. Flash it…but that will depend on the Kernal build and if you do one thing wrong your phone will become a brick… Good Luck…

What do you consider a down-side to owning a tracfone?
There's one which stands out - when you purchase air time, you're buying two things. Minutes of voice time and a set number of texts, as well as network access time, which is the period of time which you have to use your minutes/texts. If you do not burn all your minutes/texts by the end of your network access period, you lose any remaining minutes/texts. And, you can purchase minutes/texts alone, but you can't purchase access time without buying a package which also includes minutes/texts. When I used TracFone, it was only for carrying in the car, in case I needed to call AAA. So every couple of months I would have to buy more access time, which came with some number of minutes/texts that I didn't need, since I rarely used the phone. I think in the end, I had something over 3000 minutes, which were sacrificed when I quit using TracFone. Dumb, but it's how they keep their hooks in you. It's human nature to not want to give up something you already paid for, so many people think about switching carriers, but decide against it because it would essentially mean throwing away money.
