I Have Lost All My Cloud Stuff

What is "cloud storage", in layman's terms?

Cloud storage!! Yay!!

Cloud storage, simply put, is an online hard drive. A big warehouse where data gets stored from other peoples computers.

For example; When you use facebook, you put your pictures on it, and facebook holds them and displays them on your account. This way, you, and your friends can see these pictures. This is an example of cloud storage. Facebook has a big online storage base, that stores all of the things you upload to it, and saves them on their hard drives.

Apple and other products use the same technology, but for different things. Apple allows you to store your music, pictures, and other phone data on this "cloud". You send it all to them (your phone does this as the middle-man) and they say "sure! We'll hold all of this for you on our computer!". This way, you can open up these files no matter where you are, because your using the internet as a bridge to access your music and stuff.

The cloud connects everything you use (laptop, pc, iPad, phone, tablet), together. If I have the song "Drops of Jupiter" on this cloud, I can listen to it on any of these devices, so long as their connected to the internet, because the internet is my bridge to this "cloud" of data.

I hope I did it some justice on what a cloud would be! Also, the website I linked is a good read too!

Happy Storing!

Can you explain the storage cloud with Chromebook? and pictures/vid sharing?

In actual fact, you get to keep the files you have uploaded to Google drive even after the 2 years, but (assuming you have more than 5 GB) you won't be able to upload new files for free. Your files are safe in the cloud, I wouldn't worry about that at all. Google will not delete them.
And yes, you can share all your files with whoever you choose, you can even allow them to comment on them or modify them, that is all part of google drive's functionality. BTW, I do own the new Samsung Chromebook, and it is great, as long as you can accept it's limitations. No serious games, no torrents and no netflix. On the other hand, you will never have to worry about viruses and malware ever again and most apps are free. Also, if you lose or break your chromebook, all your stuff will be safely backed up in the cloud. You just buy a new one, log in with your google account and you can start again from where you left off.

If I erase my iPhone, will the photos in my "iCloud Photo Library" be deleted?

Thanks for the A2A.The short answer is no.When iCloud Photo Library is activated, the master copy of your pictures and videos get stored in iCloud.Erasing your iPhone happens at the device level and, despite erasing all the photos and videos at the same time, this does NOT send any signal to iCloud to do the same on the server. For this to happen, you need to manually tap on the small bin from inside the Photos app.In fact, even manually deactivating iCloud Photo Library from your iPhone keeps all your pictures and videos safely stored in iCloud too.The thing is, if you intend to sell or give away your iPhone, it’s best to manually sign out of iCloud first, which will deactivate iCloud Photo Library anyway. For more information about the complete procedure, have a look at this Apple Support article:What to do before you sell or give away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touchHope this helps!

How much of you prefer to save your photos and videos on Cloud based platform rather than saving them in your device?

If you only save them to 'your device' and don't have a backup, you risk losing your data-- Photos, videos, contacts, whatever. If you are conscientious about backing up to your computer or a dedicated hard drive, you may not need cloud storage. If you are not dedicated to regular backups and  you've ever had your laptop, tablet, phone... lost, stolen or destroyed- you start to appreciate the benefit of cloud storage. You can automate backups and access your stuff from your device or probably any other device of your choosing. The other benefit of at least some media-centered cloud storage/sharing services is that they also give you access to image processing, management and other applications, which you probably don't get on your device automatically.I periodically backup my stuff to a dedicated storage device, but always appreciate the ability to access and share my media from my cloud storage service.

If I restore my iPhone, will I lose everything? How can I stop this from happening?

When you restore your device (iPad,iPhone) it erases everything and then reinstalls the core applications and OS.Backups are for times when you loose your device, it gets damaged, or you are upgrading to a new device. Apple has setup iCloud to allow you to back up your device completely. It also has provided a way to restore everything except the applications without having to restore from a backup. Why you might ask?Your device has a lot of things going on in the background besides what programs you are using. All this activity and changes are captured in the backup. Sometimes communication between backup (done through WiFi) gets garbled. Sometimes the garble happens in the device you are using that causes problems. Those problems are saved in the full backup. If Apple runs diagnostics on your device and there are no errors, then the issue you are having is most likely software. When this happens you need to restore your device to factory settings and set up as a new device. You can not restore from a backup without putting the problem back on the device.By turning iCloud Photo Library on, and set to put originals in the cloud, and turning on from the main iCloud page the items like contacts, etc. these are backed up separately. Then after the restore all you need do is log into your iCloud account after selecting set up as new. All your photos will come back along with contacts, messages, etc. Only the applications will need to be reinstalled and the device personalized after.
