I Have Not Worked Since Jan

Can an employer find out where you worked if it's not listed on your resume? If so, how?

I suppose an employer could hire a private investigator, or pull credit reports, or interview people (this kind of thing happens for various government clearances). But the real questions are: why do you care if they know you worked somewhere not on your resume, and why would they want to spend all that time and money finding out what you didn't tell them?I list one job from before I was 18 - because it was a cool job. I could easily not list anything from before I graduated with my BA after going back to school, since my work experience/history since Jan 2007 is all anyone really wants to know (they don't care I worked as a car cleaner for Hertz 15 years ago).

Can i still do my taxes if i started working on January of this year?

If you had $0 income in 2014, there's no need to file a return. If you just started working this month (January, 2015) you will claim that income on your 2015 return NEXT year.

I’ve started working out since early January. Am I still a beginner?

Answer: it depends. Think less about TIME and more about PROGRESS. If you came into the gym and just hit a quick 15-30 minute chat and lift some things session, you are more than likely a beginner. If you came into the gym with an efficient plan and have build a legitimate strength foundation, you are not.For more free detailed tips/advice: feel free to visit Self Improved Fitness or ask me questions here on quora!

I started work on December 29th. Should I receive a W-2?

Sorry. I typed the following answer a few hours ago and it appeared under the wrong question: I believe earnings are taxable in the year they're received. Although you started work on December 29, The pay check you received on January 9 is taxable as 2017 income, not 2016 income. Since you didn't receive any income from this employer in 2016, they're not obligated to provide you with a W2 for 2016. Likewise, you're not obligated to claim any income from this employer in 2016, since you didn't receive any. The whole amount of the January 9 check would be claimed on the return due by April 16, 2018.

I have never claimed a tax refund since i started working in 2004.?

You will only get a refund if you have paid too much tax in the first place , so unless this is the case you not get a refund at all.
Your tax code may be 747L Just a guess but that means you can earn £7,470 before paying any tax and normally this is divided in to 52 weeks giving you , about £140 a week tax free earning per week.
If from January to end of march you earned less than £140 per week in benifits then you will be able to claim a refund on the short fall eg if you earned £100 per week for the 12 weeks then you will have £12 * (£140 -£100) = £480 that you will have paid tax on that should have been tax free.
£480 * 23% = £110
So you should get £110 rebate assuming my guess are correct.

What recourse does my son have? He has been off work on medical leave since January 26. They notified him his time was up on May 29. He got released on June 4th. He was fired because they said he abandoned his job.

FMLA only protects your job for 12 weeks, which is what most people would take for “medical leave.” It fits the timeline you’re talking about, too. They gave him warning that they needed him to return to work as his FMLA benefits were up. He did not, so they fired him. They’re completely within their rights to do that. You can’t expect them to hold his position forever. They gave him notice of what he would need to do to avoid being fired and by not returning to work, he did, in fact, abandon the job.

I’m currently looking for work. I worked at my last job for 18 years. I have not worked since January 2013. I am not ready to get back to work. How do I explain my 5-year work gap? I have been taking care of a sick parent, and I was soul-searching.

You HAVE been working- as a caregiver. Sadly, the pay is terrible (nothing) and people simply do not appreciate what is really involved. Do not be hard on yourself. Honestly, if you can afford it, you need a vacation where you actually enjoy yourself a bit before heading back to the employment races. Of course, finances will dictate if you go to Bora Bora -or a bed and breakfast a few hours away. Whatever you do, you need to get into the right frame of mind for a job. This could be an opportunity to persue something you enjoy more than your past positions. Have you considered going back to school for training in something new? It's a possibility worth thinking about. Maybe you should look for a job in a new city, a break from the old. Perhaps you could look up past classmates and network a bit…As far as explanations- try the truth. It's much easier and less stressful to remember than a lie. May you have good fortune finding a new post that makes you happy.

Why does the financial year start from 1st April and not 1st January?

There are a few reasons why this financial (fiscal) year and calendar year do not coincide depending on whom you ask. There are few countries that follow this system like India, United Kingdom, Cannda, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Japan. If you look closely at the these Countries, they are Britain and its colonies and the practice has continued. More importantly looking at the history of UK, prior to 1752 the UK still adhered to the Julian calendar and the first day of a new year was 25th March. The calendar reforms of that year brought the country into line with the Gregorian calendar on the continent by removing 11 days from September and starting the year on 1st Jan. To avoid messing up their accounts with short or long years the financial institutions kept the start of the fiscal year where it was i.e 25th March but shifted by 11 days to 5th April. Over the years this decision seemed to make sense as it avoided the Christmas & New Year's holiday. So that accounting year doesn't coincide with the periods of high activity/sales, such as Christmas and New Year. Moreover no wants to pore over the books on New Year's Eve. Specifically looking at IndiaIndia being an agricultural economy, revenue generally depends on the unpredictable outcome of the main crop being ripe in February / March. India enacted the Income-Tax Act in 1961. The Act came into force from April 1, 1962 and that's why our financial year begins on April 1 every year. April 1st coincided with the Hindi festival of Vaisakha / Ugadi / Bihu i.e. Hindi new year, so the East India Company in Bengal decided to synchronise it's financial year with the Hindi calendar to ease financial transactions.
