I Have Windows Xp On My Computer. Is Avast Antivirus Ok To Protect This Programme When It Stops

Which is the best antivirus for Windows 7?

I am one who have always used an ant virus programme in my personal laptop It is not for that reason I am answeing this. I just wanted to share my viewsFirst of all I have not stuck to any one particular brand of Anti Virus. I have used Norton, McAfee. Kaspersky, and Avast. In addition I have used the MSE i.e., Microsoft Security Essentials which is free When MSE first appeared on scene, it was good and since then it has lost its sheen. Some years back, Kaspersky was the cheapest Anti Virus programme available and did its job well too. Norton, Avast, and McAfee all belong to the same league and perform almost in identical ways and all are equally good. However, in due course of time you get fed up with one and decide to shift to another one for reasons best known to you which you won't feel inclined to explain for others for whatever reasons. Most of these Anti Virus brands are available in different varieties and flavours with different price tags. I think they all essentially serve the same purpose according to my experience. My important suggestion is that an Anti Virus programme is an absolute must on your computer on other devices. You must also choose a paid Anti Virus rather than the free ones.(I don't bundle the MSE in the free ones as although it is free, it is for legally licenced Windows OS only).Never allow your computer or laptop to be used by another person. In today's world it is far better to obtain yourAnti Virus licence for 2-3 devices use as you can install it on your laptop , smartphone or any other device too.It is always better to compare the prices online and in stores before arriving at your purchase decision. These greatly vary because most of the time we are seeing highly inflated prices. Never buy cheap product key alone from online purchase as in one of my purchases it did not work out well as I had a 30 day trial of same brand but different variety already running on my laptop, I could not successfully switch over to the one I bought online. There is no specific Ant Virus for Windows 7.Happy Virus free days ahead.

Is Windows Defender a good enough antivirus?

Just wondering if all I need is Windows Defender for my antivirus program?

I have Windows 7 Ultimate and Comodo Firewall.

Used to have Avira but took it off as it's been not working right.

Thanks

Is Norton virus protection the best? And does it mess up your computer?

My Free trial of Norton I just got on my laptop is about to expire. My friend told me that "By no re subscribing to Norton, it downloaded all the viruses it had protected n my laptop back on my laptop". and he said he had to get a new one because it was so bad.

So, as a person who just got a new laptop, should I re subscribe to Norton? It's just so much money, and I don't have it right now. Should I uninstall it before the subscription ends? And has anyone else had any problems with Norton?

Thanks for the help guys!

Which is a good anti-virus for Windows which does not slow down the computer or Internet?

Due to scanning process AV gets slows down mainly. Protegent Antivirus is best for Windows, it not only protects from virus and other malicious program but developed with rich technique which perform all scanning process with advance technologies and does not slow down the system like others. Also possesses with Data loss Prevention tool called Crash Proof which is inbuilt proactive data recovery software to restore accidentally deleted data.

What is a good free antivirus program?

Be very careful of someone who will tell you that paid AV's are a rip off or that free is better than paid. They are either being malicious or they just don't know what they are talking about. Free AV's offer nothing but "Basic" protection. Paid offers "Full" protection. You can see for yourself on the Avast home page. http://www.avast.com/index Look for yourself. You are only protected from viruses and spyware. What about drive by downloads or any type of online attack? You will be on your own. Check out the AVG home page,http://www.avg.com/us-en/free-antivirus-... If you will notice, It's the same thing. AVG is the worst AV you will ever have. Avoid it like the plague. Only noobs and the uneducated use it.

If you absolutely have to do free, Go with Avast. There is no such thing as a best free anything. Only the lesser evil. Avast would be your lesser evil. It's better than it was a few yrs ago but it still needs some help. Consider pairing it with the paid version of Mal ware bytes. Mal ware bytes paid edition has a very good real-time protection. It will enhance Avast real-time protection. Mal ware bytes free edition is a good program. I'm not downing it. The only thing I have against it, It doesn't run in real-time. Real time is very important. Without real-time you may as well not waste your time downloading it because if you get infected badly enough it will not open or update. Most infections will shut it down. But, If it's running in real-time, It will stop most infections at the door. It's a one time payment of 27.95. It's yours for life after that. As long as you own the computer. Couple that with your built-in firewall, You're good to go as long as you keep your computer updated @ windows update. It's 90% of your computers security. A patched computer is much harder to infect than an unpatched one.

(EDIT)

I highly recommend you don't install Microsoft Security Essentials. It failed it's last three test. It's almost as sorry as AVG. The last account I had it was running neck and neck with AVG for the sorriest AV spot.
