I Hear A Single Click Followed By A Constant Beep When I Try To Start The Engine

Car clock/radio resets when starting engine - what's going on?

2000 car clock/radio resets when I start my car. It's as though the battery has died and it resets to 12:00. It has happened twice today. The car also doesn't start on the first try, but promptly turns over on the second attempt. Is it my battery going? Something else? Please advise. Thanks!

Why is my car making a clicking noise but not starting?

This is a common problem that can happen to a lot of cars. And there’s 2 main problems that are related to when your car makes a clicking noise but doesn’t start.(1) Faulty starter. The starter helps with igniting the vehicle, so if you’ve ruled out that the battery is fine and the car still doesn’t start and it makes a clicking sound with the lights on, then it’s likely a faulty starter and you’ll need a starter replacement(2) Ignition switch. If you know your battery is working properly, but your car doesn’t turn over on the first few tries, you might have a problem with the ignition switch. You can try to narrow down the cause of your issue by turning on your headlights. This is because your car's battery controls your headlights and dashboard, and if it's the case that they turn on your engine isn't able to start start, then a bad ignition switch is the likely culprit.Hope that helps!

Once i turn my car on, it has a constant clicking sound?

OK, if the clicking or ticking noise is there while the engine is idling in park or neutral, then a first guess is your serpentine or other belt is making the noise. To prove it, simply spray some water on each belt one by one and see if the ticking noise goes away immediately, proving that the belt is making the noise. The belt may have little road stones embedded in it. Maybe it's time to replace your belts. Make sure your engine oil is full on the oil dipstick and you don't hear clicking or ticking noises late at night while your laying in bed counting sheep.

Car won't start, lights come on, but only clicking sound?

My car won't start. On the way home, I noticed the blicking sound of the signal lights was delayed. Instead of the normal steady tick tick tick, it was more like tick...tick...tick. I thought that was odd. Once I parked the car and tried turn it on again, the dashboard lights came on and seemed to die. I waited a few seconds, tried again, and this time the lights came fully on, followed by a fast clicking sound from under the hood. The car wouldn't start though. I tried again and the same happened. I've had dead batteries before, but the car would be completely dead. So this seems different. The current battery is about 1 year old. Any thoughts? Thx.

My car makes a clicking sound when i accelerate?

This is difficult without actually hearing the sound. Clicking is not a sound that I would call normal on a machine, especially how you are explaining it here.. between 2K and 3K RPM.

I would be a little concerned about the oil level. If the sound started after the oil had gone low, it could be a serious issue, such as valve tap noise caused by sticking lifters. That sound usually is constant, however. Hopefully you pulled the dip stick to ensure that the crankcase is full after adding one quart of oil. If not, please do.

Another concern is the power loss. This coupled with "clicking" could indicate an electrical spark short. This comes from bad spark plug wires and the "clicking: sound would come from an electrical arc from a cracked spark plug wire. The best way to check is to look under the hood at night with the engine running. Rev the engine a little to get the clicking sound and look for a light show around the plug wires. If there is arcing you should be able to see it at night. At any rate, if you rev up to 2 or 3K rpm and hear the sound while looking under the hood you might find the location by sound along. If you find a bad plug wire it is best to change them ALL. These need to be purchased at an auto supply store specifically for the car you have to ensure proper fit. They are easy to replace, just do them with the engine OFF and one-by-one. Remove one, find his exact length replacement and install it before moving to the next. Very easy.

CAUTION.. WORKING UNDER THE HOOD OF A CAR WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING IS DANGEROUS. USE CARE NOT TO TOUCH ANY MOVING PARTS AND BE MINDFUL OF LOOSE CLOTHING THAT COULD GET CAUGHT AND PULL YOU INTO THE ENGINE. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING! AVOID DISTRACTIONS AND USE COMMON SENSE!

If not a wire, it could be internal to the engine which is more serious. Listening with the hood up can lead to you a clue. If it is internal you are best to see a service center for professional assistance. Usually a good mechanic can have a look and give you a quote to repair in a few moments and without charge.

Good Luck.. I hope this helps..
