I Help With A Thesis For Corporal Punishment I Am Not Against It

Are Christians more likely to use corporal punishment on their children?

Over the past few weeks I’ve been running a non-scientific poll with friends and coworkers. In my small sampling 65% of the people who identified themselves as Christians spanked their children. While <5% of non-Christians spanked their kids.

Were you raised in a Christian home? Did your parents use corporal punishment?

Are you a Christian? Will/Do you use spanking as a means of correcting your children?

What would be a thesis statement for corporal punishment on children?

I would start by describing corporal punishment in your introduction and then your thesis statement would be if you agree or disagree with corporal punishment and why.

Here is an example:
For years the debate about the use and effectiveness of corporal punishment by teachers in schools has divided educators and theorists. Attempts have been made to determine if the policy of bringing physical harm to a child does indeed thwart misbehavior and encourage students to follow the established rules and regulations set forth by the schools. Although the United States Supreme Court has ruled it legal to administer corporal punishment in schools, 28 states in America have banned the practice. However, it is very often difficult to decide what form of punishment is most efficient in eliciting avoidance behaviors. Recent research has disproved a certain form of punishment, a form that is both barbaric and very outdated, not to mention ineffective…corporal punishment.

Are you against Corporal punishment for children?

Ok I picked my persuasive speech topic to be "Why people should be against Corporal Punishment" So My thesis basically says that it can lead to great effects on a child like; trauma and lack of trust/confidence in many people, and the alternatives to discipline a child. Sure i agree maybe once in a while a little spanking but nothing more. Any sub-ideas that i can put down for my claims? if you have a website that i can use i would gladly appreciate it.

thanks much

Intro Paragraph for Corporal Punishment Essay?

So you're going to write a research paper, but you've already decided what the research will support? You need to do some of your research before you write your thesis statement. The point of research is to find out what is true BEFORE you make up your mind!

I think you'll find that most of the research (as opposed to mere opinions) is against corporal punishment. There's recent research that indicates that children who are spanked are more likely to act up than children who aren't, are more likely to be violent as adults, and do worse in school. Most of the people in prison for violent crime were spanked and beaten as children. There's no research showing that corporal punishment produces better behaved children or more responsible adults.

When children are physically punished, it may get them to behave while you're there and they are afraid of getting caught. But it makes them more likely to misbehave when they don't think they'll get caught. If the punishment has more to do with being removed from things and people they like, they start to internalize the guidelines for good behavior. That's a much better effect than fear of punishment.

What is a good thesis statement for my argumentative essay on corporal punishment? 10 points?

Its good, but rather short
Also if you have a choice, argue against because your argument will win, and email me if you want my help with this
I would recommend that you include one parapgraph on a potential negative scenario in order to add validity and equality to your argument, and then counter this
also this is only one paragraph topic sentence, what are your other two?

Despite many negative connatations associated with the implementation of state sanctioned corporal punishment, for many crimes this is the most appropriate recourse, and has been shown to reduce crime rates on a global scale.

Can punishment stop crime?

With the largest prison population and the most horrible system for dealing with sex offenders in the world (the Scarlet Letter of sex offender registration), you would expect America to be virtually crime-free if that were the case. But it's not, and the reasons are not hard to understand. People commit crimes for an infinite number of reasons and they are deterred by an equally infinite number of things. Fear of punishment is only one and not a very significant one in many cases. When a man reaches the end of his rope and acts out impulsively, he is -- by definition -- not considering the consequences, let alone the criminal punishments. Punishment has never been a good deterrent for bad behavior. Positive reinforcement has always worked better. Prisons are a valid way to segregate the dangerous from society, but when used to "punish" people, they serve only to satisfy a sense of retribution that is only thinly disguised as "justice". The ultimate form of retribution is the "eye for an eye" philosophy, which at least has the virtue of being clear in its purpose. Warehousing people in the most inhuman and demeaning conditions and then letting them out afterwards is a recipe for recidivism and sociopathy.  Yes, punishment deters most people from committing crimes, and it may act as a deterrent for some very small percentage of criminals, but the way in which we in the US hand it out is vastly disproportionate to its value in reducing crime. It really is nothing more than a way of satisfying a community sense of vengeance and retribution. Whether those are valid penal goals is a subject for a different question.

Compare liberal and conservative parenting styles. When is either the better choice?

Experts have identified three general parenting styles: authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive. How to Deal with Differing Parenting StylesConservatives — not all but many — tend to favor the authoritarian style, but it comes with a host of problems.Authoritarian parenting: What happens to the kids? They also tend to favor using corporal punishment, which is also very prone to causing mental and emotional issues. The case against spankingLiberals — not all but many —- tend to favor the authoritative style, which I consider the best in terms of outcomes for the child. The Only Parenting Model You NeedAs for permissive parenting, I think it’s a mistake that crosses ideological lines. It’s basically hands-off parenting, and both cons and libs can be guilty of this for different reasons. I rate it as less harmful than authoritarian, but nowhere near as effective as authoritative parenting. Kids from these households may not encounter boundaries and limits at home, but they’re going to encounter them at school and in other settings, and many of them will adjust well.~*~Conservatives — not all but many — are more likely to be ‘carpenter’ parents, believing that they are supposed to construct the kind of child and adult that validates their religious/political views.Liberals — not all but many — are more likely to be ‘gardener’ parents, seeing their children as individuals to be accepted and nurtured as they grow into who they were meant to be. They don’t believe that children exist to validate their parents’ choices.I choose authoritative parenting because it is responsive to who the child is. And they are who they are, from the beginning.Katherine Bailey's answer to What is the most psychologically damaging thing you can say to a child?
