I Just Bought A Car And Realized That The Pink Slip Was Not Under His Name.

Bought a car and pink slip title not under the seller's name?

Congratulations! You just got SCAMMED. This mess is NOT yours to clean up. It is the sellers. Since the seller did not legally register the car in their name it legally was not their property to sell. You may never be able to register this car in your own name. In the business it's called "flipping".

Try taking it back to the seller and asking for your money back. Remind the seller that what they did is ILLEGAL, and if necessary you will sue them to rescind the sale. If they refuse sue them.

The legal argument you will use if the "Principle of Merchantability". That means when you buy something you have a reasonable expectation that you can use it. With out a CLEAR title you can not register the car in your name, and therefore can not use it. 99.99999% of the time you will prevail. You return the car to the seller and the court orders them to return your money.

Can I sell the pink slip to someone after someone else has bought the car?

In September of last year I sold a car to a person for 1250 dollars. I didn't give him the pink slip because he could only pay half at that time. The agreement was once he paid off the car he would get the pink slip. So far he has paid up to 1200, but has not made his last payment of 50 dollars yet. It has been at least two months since his last payment. Since the car was in an accident before it was sold he has done almost all of the repairs on the vehicle, with only a couple hundred dollars on the bill. However, he has recently split with his girlfriend, who has no vehicle and needs one. She has offered me 1500 dollars for the pink slip on the vehicle, and reimbursing the said boyfriend the 1200 dollars he has paid me. She would have to retrieve the car from the auto repair shop. There is no bill of sale, no receipt, and the car is still in my name because he does not have the title to the car. Is there anything illegal about this, or could he sue me because of this? Also, he left me a message today saying he has the remaining 50 dolars.

What should I do right after buying a used car?

Well, you should’ve already done a full vehicle inspection before purchasing the car, which would’ve helped negotiate a fair price for the condition of the vehicle or flagged any MUST HAVE repairs. Now’s the time to get any of those repairs done. Get the car running 100%.Establish a base-line maintenance schedule. Wait until the odometer reaches a xx5,000 or xx0,000, and make this your oil change schedule. If your used car is approaching 75k, this is your starting point. Change the oil at 75k, 80k, 85k, 90k etc. This makes it easier to remember. Practice the same religion for filters, plugs, tire rotation etc. Filters should be every 30k, plugs every 60k, tire rotations every 15k.Top off or flush/bleed any fluids I didn’t mention. Brake fluid and Coolant should be your top priority. Check for any slow leaks of greasy/wet coatings running under your car. Check your CV boots and brake/tire life.Have the car professionally detailed. Your driver’s seat is covered in someone else’s ass sweat. The floor is covered in boogers and the car is littered with someone else’s filth. This is YOUR car, now, it deserves your filth and no one else’sConsider fixing nuisances and adding your personal touch. It’s a used car, if you have a cracked cup holder or water in the tail light, you can scavenge a used one from a junk yard for $5.00. Throw in a nice new cell phone charger, a sun shade, maybe even a tool kit or new floor mats.Make sure everything is there, like the owner’s manual, spare tire, jack, wrenches, etc. Check the pressure and condition of the spare. Again, this is all stuff you can get cheap at a U-Pull-It yard, and it’s best not to get caught in the rain to realize the OEM jack is missing.Detail the engine bay, remove leaves, oil splotches, and brush/tighten those corroded battery terminals. Replace any cracked parts, reservoirs, or caps/covers. Look for worn gaskets that might leak oil.

My car title is under someone else's name and I can't register my car. I can't locate the previous owners who sold it me. What should I do?

Buy another car very similar from the junkyard, with title. Remove the windshield and underlying VIN from that car, ans put them on your car.Check with your state’s tax office. If your car has a lien, you can /have to negotiate with the lienholder. I did this once and TTL’d an abandoned car for $400.Junkyards don’t sell titles? No problem, just do the same thing with another used car. Next time save yourself this hassle and get the title transferred before handing over the cash.

Lost pink slip, No bill of sale, Can't find owner. AAA shows car in anothers name. Can't register. How do i prove this car is mine??

I bought the car in LA for 7k but the tax was gunna be a lot of money for me and it had new tags so I didn't switch it over right away. The guy had signed the pink slip over to me and no bill of sale was done. I FORGOT all this and went to AAA today to renew and they said the car is still in someone elses name. She gave me a bill of sale to get filled out from the owner, but he's some dude i met in LA a year ago and I don't even know his name. They won't let me register my car! What do i do?
