How can I train my husky puppy to respond to his name?
My husky puppy is about 9 weeks old and he can already sit on command which is great. He doesnt however recognize his name, KIKI, when we call him. Does anyone have some good tips that will help him recognize his name? Also, he loves to chew on everything so he has plenty of toys, but sometimes I can him chewing on something I don't want him doing. My question is, after saying a firm NO, is there anything else I can do? i was told put some pennies in a jar and shake it whenever he does something bad but does someone have a better more effective tip? Thanks!
What's a good name for our new puppy?
We just rescued an 8 week old female Husky/Rottweiler mix from our shelter, and we are listening around for names that fit! At this point she looks mostly like a Husky with Rottweiler colors and a couple other features. She also has Heterochromia (One brown eye and one blue eye). I don’t have any pictures but I will do my best to update later My personal favorite, one that I came up with is Farrokah, Roca for short after Freddie Mercury's real name, but I want to hear a bunch more to see if it fits! Please refrain from posting any opinions that aren't directly related to the question. If you don't, I will hurt your feelings.
Any suggestions for a name on this male Husky/German Shepherd mix puppy?
We just recently got this cute husky/german shepherd mix male puppy a week ago and are still stumped on a name! Anyone have any good unconventional/not the average puppy name suggestions? We are trying to give him a name that doesn't sound like any common training commands i.e. sit,stay,come,shake,off etc....This little guy also has an older lab mix sister named Lily. below are two pictures that give a pretty good idea of what he looks like. Why do Husky puppies cry all night?
This answer is going to be a lil long. So everyone try and bare with me. I bought my Husky Pup on 30 Apr 2018 when he was 01 Month old. I named him GOKU after my Favorite Character(at least one of my Fav)To be frank, Goku never cried at night. Maybe because he got lots of Kisses, love,affection that he immediately imprinted on us.Presently he is 05 Months old. The moment anyone gets a pup home, make sure never leave the pup alone for more than 10–15 mins. There are a lot of other things which one should know before buying or adopting a pup. Goku has been such a good pup.Huskies in general are such a smart dog breed that no matter how Adventure freak you are,they will always take you by surprise. They are born Jokers, born Hunters with Killer Instincts. How can I get my puppy to learn its name?
You don't really have to work at this. Your puppy will learn its name without much effort on your part. What's more important, in my opinion, is teaching your puppy to have a positive association with the sound of his/her name. This is important for achieving a reliable recall (coming when called) and in general, getting and keeping your dog's attention. You have to have your puppy's attention, after all, before you can teach him or her anything else.A name is like a cue, which represents an opportunity for reinforcement - at least it does if taught correctly. To teach your puppy to have a positive association with its name, simply get yourself a handful (10-20) pea-size tasty treats (chicken, hotdogs, or cheese) and stand facing your puppy. Hold both hands still at your waist and only reach for a treat after you say your puppy's name. As soon as your puppy consumes the treat, say his/her name again until you have used up your treats.Say your puppy's name, then reach for and deliver a treat, from your hand, a treat pouch tied to your waist or a zip lock baggy or other container sitting on a table top. It is very important that you are discrete about the treats! Do not hold them in front of your puppy's nose or at eye level so she focuses on the food rather than the sound of his/her name! Also, do not move your hand to get and deliver a treat until after you have said your puppy's name. You want the sound of your puppy's name to be the cue to pay attention to you. It isn't important in this exercise for your puppy to look at you after you say its name; you are simply creating an association between the sound of the name and the treats. There is no required behavior that you are reinforcing. Your puppy is learning simply by association, so that when s/he hears his/her name, she will promptly give you his/her attention because her/his name means something wonderful is about to happen!Practice this once or twice a day, and you will be amazed at how your puppy pays attention to you!© Lucinda M.
