I Just Got A Newborn Baby Kitten And It Has Watery Eyes And Dry Eye Boogers Around Her Eyes

Baby kittens eyes crusted shut?

My 2 kittens are a day less than 2 weeks old. They opened their eyes about a week old. Now for the past 2 or 3 days one, one of their eyes (on each kitten) is crusted shut. I've tried to wipe it clean with a wet q-tip, and tissue but I don't want to hurt them. What should I do?

Why are some of my newborn kittens not opening their eyes even though others did?

They do not all necessarily complete milestones at the same time. It can take from 7 to 10 days for them to open their eyes. If a kitten still has not opened his/her eyes at this point then you might want to talk to a vet but expect some of the kittens to be behind the others all along the trip to adulthood.Watch the less developed kittens for signs of distress at important milestones such as weening and transitioning to wet food and then to dry food and so on. If you see any signs then take action as soon as possible. If they are not eating when the mother weens them then supplement with kitten milk from the store. In most cases you can just put it in a small bowl and they will lap it up but sometimes you have to use a bottle. If this is the case a vet visit may be in order to make sure there are no physical problems with eating or some other abnormalities that may need addressing. Also watch for eye problems in all kittens as they begin eating because the tend to get it all over their face and in their eyes. Be on the lookout for respiratory problems because they also present a serious problem. If they cannot smell they will likely not eat or drink and can die in less than a day.We have a foster litter of seven at six weeks right now. They have just transitioned onto dry kitten food with one little one lagging behind and still on pate with some kitten milk at every meal to help build him up. It has been a job but a lot of fun too!Good luck to you and your little ones.

What would cause two out of five kittens to be born with their eyes near-shut?

Kittens are ALL born with their eyes closed. They will start opening their eyes around day 10, but some kittens in the litter will often open their eyes a day or two before the others (and vice versa). Do not try to force the eyes open-- they need to finish developing properly and you don't want to damage the kittens' eyesight. If they haven't opened their eyes around the 2-week mark, or if they did have their eyes open but now they are stuck shut with a lot of discharge, then you will want to have a vet examine them for a possible infection.

Is a little brown crust okay around a kitten's eyes?

Did you know that a cat's tears aren't clear like humans? They're kind of an amber color and when they dry they look brown. You can use a damp cotton ball or wash cloth to remove these "eye boogers". Just remember to wipe from nose outward and use a different part of the cotton ball for each eye. They don't really hurt anything but the cat looks better without them.

10 day old kitten, one eye opened, the other one crusty and closed?

When kittens are just opening their eyes, goop and crust is common. As long as it's not thick, yellow-green, or pus like he's probably fine.

Try this:

Antibacterial Hand Soap
Cotton Gauze (NOT Cotton BALLS)
One Deep Bowl - Wash before use, preferably in dishwasher with heat dry setting
8x8 inch Ceramic or Pyrex Casserole dish, washed in dishwasher with the heat dry setting
Large Bottle of Alcohol
Scissors

Wash your hands all the way up to your elbows in hot water (as hot as you can reasonably stand) and the antibacterial hand soap and dry with paper towels. Place the scissors in the 8x8 dish so they lay flat and pour alcohol in to cover the scissors completely. Soak for 10 minutes, remove and dry thoroughly with a clean paper towel. Using the clean, dry scissors, cut several small pads of the cotton gauze, approximately 3 inches by 3 inches. Fill the deep bowl with warm water. Dip a piece of the gauze you have cut into the water and lightly wring. You don't want it to be dripping, but you don't want it to be dry either. Gently dab the eye, do not wipe or rub. Repeat this several times but do not pry the eye open. You just want to soften the crust and remove it gently with the gauze.

Repeat this process twice a day for several days or until the eye is completely open and free from any further discharge or crust.

What different treatments can be followed for goopy eyes in kittens?

Before you follow my instructions take your kitten to the vet if possible as this may be a sign of very serious infection:Okay a very important and essential fact is that Goopy eye can be very often caused by these Feline Herpes Virus. To treat I would find a wet cat food that your cat likes and add either 1000mg/day during flare-up, and 250mg day as maintenance of Lysine. Lysine is an incredibly effective amino acid and can release stress in cats as well. It will treat the goopy eye in cats and can usually be a all around boost to their immune system. Please spay and neuter your pets!

How do you get cooking oil out of a kittens eyes?

Not hot cooking oil, I hope? If it was hot, go to the vet right away; you’re looking at burn injuries, and those need to be treated. If it wasn’t hot oil, things are much better. If you’ve got to get something in your kitten’s eyes, cooking oil isn’t the worst choice; it’s not poisonous, caustic, or generally nasty. Your kitten should be fine—messy, but fine.Take a soft cloth; wipe the kitten’s face carefully. Wipe from the outside of the eye toward the nose, gently. Get all the cooking oil off the kitten’s face; it’s okay if the kit is still a bit sticky, because cooking oil can be safely licked off.If the kitten is still with its mother, let Mom do the grooming. She’ll probably clean the kitten better than you could, and without the trauma of a bath. If not, and the kitten is old enough to clean itself, wipe off as much of the oil as you can and let the little fuzzball finish the job itself. If it’s a young kitten you’re fostering, from about four to eight weeks old, you can safely bathe the kitten as long as you use warm water and baby shampoo, and dry the kitten thoroughly afterward. Do not let a kitten catch a chill—they lose body heat fast because they’re so small. A kitten under four weeks is best off just wiped off and left a bit oily than bathed, since their small size and immature temperature-control systems make bathing something you’d reserve for situations where the kitten had gotten into something that was actually poisonous. But cooking oil isn’t, luckily; so unless you’re determined to get every trace of oil off the kitten, just wipe off your kitten and let it be.

Need Help With 4 Week Old Kitten With Dry Skin ?

I'm not a vet but the sound of your question screams ringworm to me since this kitten's first weeks of life involved filth/poor nutrition. Ringworm cultures take at least 10 days to come back, you might be better off assuming ringworm, dipping it now while it is little, then culturing and hoping for a negative culture after treatment is complete. The hair will start to grow back after about 3 lyme dips. Dip is stinky stuff but your new little friend will be forever grateful to you. Plus you don't want to potentially infect yourself or your other pets.
