I Just Got Into My First Car Crash I

I just got into my first car crash with only a permit. Am I screwed?

I was already stressed because today is the day I was going to take my driving test to get my license (and I wasn't ready yet but my mom made an appointment a little too soon, I'm 18 and have only had my permit about 3 months) anyways so my mom told me to drive to go get my little sister from preschool with her so I could get some extra practice before. I parked in the womans house where the preschool is and my mom got out to go get my sister. My sister came out, got into the car and I got out (leaving my door open) to buckle her into her booster seat. I had forgotten to put the car into park because I ussually drive a standard stick-shift car, so I'm not used to putting it into park, I just ussually put the parking break on. Anyways the car rolled back and the open door smashed into a ladys car that was behind us to the left. It was horrible. I am still crying about it. The woman is in our church and was nice about it, but I know I could have easily prevented this from happening. I was just so stressed about my test and wasn't used to the car...but I know I should have remembered. It will cost about 1000 dollars my mom says, our door is broken but still closes and there are large large dents in her car and our car. Our family is already struggling with money and I need to pay for college this upcoming fall. Luckily, I have insurence on both of the cars, so will it cost more or less since I have only my permit? I live in California. I just want to feel like I'm not the biggest idiot in the world. The lady said that this is a rookie mistake but I feel completely dumb and awful. I also didn't get to take my driving test today. And my dad doesn't know yet about it and I know he'll be SO dissapointed and mad. I feel like just running away but I know I can't run away from my problems. I need some comfort and advice :/

Did you crash your first car when you were young?

yeah i swerved to miss a deer and hit a telephone pole, had to have 16 staples in my head, now i dont swerve for deer

I just got into a car crash.........?

yes SUE HIM!

My first car crash?

I am 16 and I got my license not even 2 weeks ago. I am not a bad driver, in fact I'm pretty good compared to a lot of other people. Today, I was parking my car and I got spooked thinking another car was pulling into where i was parking so by instinct, I went to hit the brake but instead I pushed down on the gas. I thankfully didn't hit another car or person, but I did hit and pretty badly break the fence in front of me. I called the police and they took all my info, but I am still really upset and shaken up. I already got into an accident after having my license for only a week and a half. My parents aren't too mad, just happy that I'm okay. Im so upset though and I know a lot of new drivers get into accidents but I'm still really upset at myself. Any advice?

I'm 17 and just got my first car. What are some tips/advice for driving?

I have to say I am SO HAPPY to see ANYONE asking this question, no matter their age. Well done you!!Here are two things I have learned, one of which I was told before I was 15 and for some reason it just stuck - and thank god too cause it has saved my life on at least one occasion if not more.Always know what is happening well ahead of you and well behind you on the highway. My dad told me this when I was around 13 or 14 years old and it LITERALLY saved my life on the highway when I was 24 and saw a reckless driver coming down the highway behind me weaving in and out of cars at breakneck speed. I had time to tell my brother who was only 12years old at the time to brace himself and I pulled over to the slow lane as the same car crashed into the median directly in front of me. Had I not seen him coming ahead of time and braked he would have crashed into my car and most likely killed my brother and I.This advice has served me well on so many occasions I can’t even count all of them but this one will never leave me.Don’t just watch the car in front of you - watch the traffic in front of you.My other brother (not the one who was in the car in that other story) is the worst one for not obeying this rule. He tailgates and brakes at the last possible second and has been in a couple crashes when he was younger as a result. I have never been in a crash. I am never surprised by a sudden braking of the car in front of me because I saw the twelve cars in front of it braking long before it did!! This definitely goes along with my previous point but they are both important :)I would mention others but other people here have done a fabulous job of giving you great advice.Good luck!!

I Wrecked My First Car.?

Well I backed into another car the first or second day I had my license sure I didn't total any cars but I did do a grand in damage, and about a year later I totaled my truck when I ran into the back of my buddies car I was following too close and a kid ran out into the street I had no where to go except into the back of my friends car who I was following yeah that was kinda bad no one got hurt but I did about 3,800 dollars damage to his car and totaled my truck I bought it back and repaired it but still I totaled it.

Then about 2 years after that I was helping my crippled aunt while driving and rear ended a parked car. I crumpled the bumper on my truck and did about 1,200 in damage to the car I hit.

It has been 13 years since then with no accidents, but Hey man accidents happen, and I hope you learn something from this, to be more attentive when driving. Sure you might be without wheels for a while again, and I know how you feel but give it time and it will be a thing of the past.

Just try not to have anymore accidents. What is done is done and there isn't much you can do about the past, just keep looking into the future and you will be ok.

Everyone's human and we all make mistakes.

Sure your old man is probably pissed about loosing the car but he will get over it. Ask him about any wrecks he has had I bet his driving record isn't perfect either.

First car accident.......?

i just got into my first car accident last night and can't get it outta my head. i was with my best friend at a red stop light getting ready to turn left, the light turned green i didn't see anyone coming so i went and then as i was finishing making my turn a dodge truck hits the passenger door. thank God nobody was hurt but i still feel so stupid i mean how could i not have seen that car? do you have any stories about your first car accident? how do you get over it??

I'm 17 and I got into my first car accident?

The accident was completely my fault. I was emotional from my dad yelling at me on the phone minutes before the accident, I saw a green light, but I didn't yield to turn left. I definitely learned from this experience. Everyone's okay, the other people were really nice. My car's totaled, their car has a little smash at the bottom corner.
Please don't give me anymore ridicule than I've already gotten, I know I'm stupid and dumb.
I offered my dad that I'll get a job and he can take all the money, but he rejected. I feel horrible now because they have to work even harder for some dumb mistake I made.

My dad is the type of person to hold on to something for a LONGGGGG time. He doesn't believe in accidents. Ever since the accident, he can only tell me that i'm stupid and that he's pissed at me.
I'm sure he's glad that I'm okay, but the thought of our insurance doubling or tripling outweighs that, especially since my mom's accident last year already raised our insurance.
My mom's just glad that I'm alive, but I don't know how to face my dad anymore. I can't stop crying whenever I see them even though crying doesn't solve anything.
I can't stop getting thoughts of just killing myself, but Im NOT going to harm myself.

How do I deal with this situation (my dad being mad, insurance skyrocketing, etc.)?
