Google has announced the shutdown of Orkut from Sep 30, 2014. How was your life in Orkut?

Orkut was the first social networking site I joined. It was particularly exciting to be on Orkut because it rose to fame in the year that I started my first year of Engineering. The greed of receiving good testimonials pushed everybody in the batch to be nice to each other. That was a good phase. The boys found a decent and cryptic way to express their emotions to the girl they liked and this led to a lot of gossip. Gossips led to crazy rumours.School friends who missed each other were able to express themselves via testimonials. However lame/corny they may seem now, those testimonials definitely made my day a few years ago. Most people found it easier to greet each other with a scrap as compared to sending an e-mail. I lost touch with so many people because we were a tad too lazy to reply to long e-mails on Yahoo mail.We had fan clubs for teachers and students. The frequent polls and scrap wars kept the spirit of the batch alive. Unfortunately, when someone decided to use my profile photo to start a group called, "Kaush Haters Club" to oppose the "Kaush Fan Club", things got a little out of hand and I deactivated my account after I took measures to get both groups deleted. The moment Google announced the shutdown of Orkut, I decided to export my profile data and communit posts using Google Takeout to make sure the good memories remain. :)Thanks for the A2A, Jaya Vishnu Kumar. :)

How much has your salary increased from your first job to today?

June 2014 : 5 lpaNov 2015 - Present : 13.5 lpaI completed my graduation from VIT University in Computer Science stream . When I joined the college, I never really thought of the salary or the company I want to join. All I knew at that time was that there was 100% placements at VIT. So I was happy and carefree for the first 2 years. But as soon as I reached my 3rd year, I became a little serious about this stuff and gradually became more aware of the companies and their packages that came for recruitment. Finally the 4th year started with a bang. There were companies like Flipkart, eBay which came in the 1st week itself and their packages were more than 10 lpa. I couldn't get selected in those companies. A couple of months passed by and even after making to the final of 2–3 companies , I couldn't get selected. By October the companies which were coming were paying 4–6 lpa.In the first week of October I got selected in a startup and the salary was 5 lpa with a joining bonus of 50K. I cannot even describe that feeling. Though the package was less than I had anticipated earlier, I was happy to finally get a job offer. So finally I joined in December 2013 for internship in the same company at 15 k per month. In June 2014, they converted me full time and I was drawing somewhere near 37 k.Then came the appraisal season. The condition of the company was really bleak and it was going thorough a resource crunch. When I asked my seniors in the company about the hike, I was shocked to know that last year there was no hike for any employee. When my manager called me in his office for appraisal discussion, I went in with little hopes. To my surprise he told me that my package has been increased to 8.3 lpa. That was unbelievable for me. Though I was pretty hard working and sincere in my work, I never expected this much of a hike. The primary reason for this hike was that already a lot of employees had left the company. So the company wanted to retain the remaining employees.Till then I was working as a Java developer. But I had interest in Android programming. So around August I started to look for a job in Android development. After spending 1 month for interview preparation and giving the interview of 4 companies, I had offer from 2 well funded start-ups. One of them was offering me 15 lpa and the other 13.5 lpa + 1 lac joining bonus. I decided to go with the latter after my assessment of both the companies.

Men & Women IN AFRICA VS IN EUROPE. which is sexier on average?

Both are but African European mixes tend too be very good looking but that is no true there are plenty of full blooded Africans and full blooded Europeans that are good looking.

Is 26 too late to start studying for UPSC?

Subhra Saxena(Topper of 2009). She started when she was 28. She left her job after 4-5 years  of experience. In her second and last attempt(as her age reached 30) she cleared with 1st rank. You can find successful candidates for each and every permutation combination cases.1. You can find candidate who cleared in first attempt along with 10 hours of corporate job.2. You can find candidate who never cleared prelims in their first 3 attempts but came in top 10 in their last attempt.3. There was an IIT Top 5 ranker (I forgot his name). He reached interview in all his 4 attempt, but never got his name in final list. Finally he joined IIMA and then opened some very famous coaching for IIT in kota. But to be frank, Here are my two cents if you are seriously thinking of preparing: 1. Be sure that are damn good at Paper1 for Prelims. If you are not able to score very very very good marks in paper1. Simply forget the idea of even filling the form. It may sound harsh. But, it's harsh reality. 2. Untill unless you are not very confident about your determination and backup plan. Never leave job. I have seen many people from IITs and NITs after giving 3-4 years of full time are back to square 1 and botched up their career.3. Once you have made it resolute and clear that you are going to write CSE. Put your mind and soul to the preparation. This exam doesn't need an expert. But a consistent hardworder with above average intelligence with fine judgement ability.and most important point is: Don't believe or follow toppers blindfoldedly. They play very humble and modest on audience. The reason I am saying this, because while explaining their strategy they( and we also ) don't emphasize on the fact of their past academic background. For instance: Gaurav Agrawal was under top 50 ranks in IIT. IIT Kanpur Computer Science is not a joke. Then Gold Medalist in IIM Lucknow.Roman Saini from AIIMS (Getting into AIIMS is much tougher than CSE, I would say because of only less 50 seats all over India)Mostly they are from IITs, top NITs, Gold Medalists in arts and literature. They are perfect blend of good writing skill , good knowledge, hard working, analytical mind, strategy making for study and what not.Almost all successful candidates are like this. So, listen to everyone, evaulate yourself, discuss with your friends for what are your positive traits that may help you in Exam. Work on that and prepare with the books and notes you feel comfortable.
