I Just Turned 18. Does Obamacare Apply To Me

What exactly is obamacare?

It actually won't go into effect until 2014. There are 10 to 20 million of us that don't qualify for any health insurance in our state. Either make too much(for Medicaid - only get it if you have children) or make too little to actually able to buy private coverage.
This law works as tax deduction ...so in 2014 the g'vt will pay 100% than year after that 90% of cost. It will work along the same lines as Medicaid. Everyone in the U.S. will have to get insurance ...the cost will range from $95.00(single person) to $615.00(family)...this is the max. let's say you refuse to get any insurance ...then it will be deducted from your tax-return at the end of the year. ...most of the uninsured are children.
The only drawback: will make it harder/more expensive for some small businesses to some employees. but that means the employee will have to contribute a tiny bit more.
NOTE: let's say we do nothing ...for example, right not if an uninsure goes to a hospital it cost the rest of the country about $1000.00 per person, with this new plan ...it costs far less!

Note: Japan, England, Canada and some countries in Europe already have a health care system such as this. Some of these countries have a budget so they have a ration/limit on how much they can spend on each person ...therefore it keeps the national health budget in check. Clinton tried to pass it year ago ...but face hard opposition from Republicans

So... I just turned 18. What can I do now?

Just turned 18.. So I signed up for a credit card (because I can do that now)
But what else can I do? :)
The good and the bad.. give me everything. like register for the draft.. lol
Im probably aware of all this but remind me because im drawing a blank

How can I get my health insurance back? (Just turned 18)?

I was previously covered under my fathers health insurance plan that he picked up from his old job. But he recently discontinued the plan on the first of this year, against the agreement (which is set in a legally binding clause) that he would keep the policy until I graduate high school.
My mother runs her own business as an sole entrepreneurship, & currently has no policy either.

How could I get an insurance policy for myself that includes emergency care, (preferably) prescription & medication, medical procedures, and doctors office visits, preferably one that allows me to choose any doctor?

How can I get my Medicaid insurance back, after losing it due to turning 20?

Actually, age is an important eligibility factor when it comes to Medicaid.  Once you turn 20, you become ineligible under the child eligibility category.  If your state has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA (Obamacare) then you will not have much of an option to regain coverage.  You can see if your state has expanded Medicaid here:http://kff.org/health-reform/sli...If your state is not one of the expansion states and your income is above the federal poverty level ($11,770 for 1 person), then you can get coverage from Obamacare through the Marketplace.  For people with income around that level, you can get a pretty affordable private plan in most states after the federal subsidy.  If you don't make that much, you are not eligible for a subsidy because the original bill assumed anyone earning below the poverty level would have Medicaid.  However, the Supreme Court struck down the requirement for states to provide Medicaid and it is now a state choice. If you have a physical or emotional disability that is documented, you may be able to qualify for Medicaid even if your state has not expanded, but that will be harder to do.  If you go to healthcare.gov, you can get more information about all of these factors.

Does your parents health insurance cut you off at 18?

The US health care system allows parents to keep children on their health plans until they turn 26. Once they reach that age the adult children must purchase their own health care via their own medical plan.

My parents have five children, ages 14 to 28. All of us are still on my parents' health care except for our eldest sister (the 28-year-old). My older brother is turning 26 this year, and will have to be dropped from the plan and purchase his own health care.

You have nothing to worry about for another 8 years! :)
