Why do keep having dreams where im dying?

Death means change. It means that something is going on in your life right now that is causing such a significant change in life or in yourself that it feels like you are going to die.

Why do I keep having dreams about myself dying?

For the past three-four months....I've been having dreams about myself dying. The first time i had the dream, it shows that I was dying of a sickness...and I was a little worried about it. But after that first dream....I keep having dreams of being attacked by strangers who tries to kill me. For example, last night....I had a very long dream. I was being chased by a strange person or something unknown. I saw myself flying as high as I could so it or he wouldn't catch me. Eventually, I was caught and stabbed several times (maybe about fifteen times). I knew I was going to die eventually, but for some reason....It was taking a long time. The person wanted me finished....so he continued following me around while I tried to slowly get away....and stabbed me again and again. I was all bloody and knew that I was going to die, but then I woke up. The dream seemed to have lasted for several hours. I've had many dreams of others dying, but never myself. I need help figuring out the meanings.

I keep having dreams about people dying?

I also have a history of death dreams.
They have lessened in number, but I'm not sure why... especially since I actually know people who are dying these days, as opposed to when I was younger when I didn't personally know of people who were dying.

It could be that you're worrying about your own death, or of other people dying. Maybe it's your way of acknowledging that death happens all the time, and that it affects not only you, but others as well.

Maybe this is a way of getting you to empathize with people, and that the dreams will stop (or happen less frequently), when you've learned what you're supposed to.

Maybe you're going to be in a career that deals primarily with people and their emotions... so maybe this is to help you build a foundation. To have you experience death in a state where it feels real, even if it isn't... and then to be able to relate with others who are experiencing bereavement.

But to make them stop... maybe some of the suggestions about eating would help. But maybe it's not about the food, but about how you really feel about death. I think you have to consider with honesty how you feel about death... then maybe you can tell us (if you want), and maybe we can be more helpful.

I know these dreams are distressing, and I also wanted them to stop. Again, I don't know why I have them a lot less often than I used to... I think it's because I've managed to make some progress in my personal life. Maybe I'm less depressed these days than I used to be... maybe it's because I feel more optimistic about my life than before? I don't know... how do you feel about your life?

In dreams, other people are aspects of ourselves. When you dream of a family member and something seemingly bad happens to them, such as dying, ask yourself what part of him or her do you carry within you. The first thing that comes to mind is probably the most powerful. Their death in your dreams is most likely a symbol of the death of this characteristic or aspect of yourself. It usually symbolizes the ending of a phase in your life, the realization and release of something in your life, or behavior that you need to or are letting go of. It represents change and new beginning.Dreaming of someone’s death does not mean that you want them to die. It is not a sign that they will die, are ill, or in danger. Our dreams are about out unconscious psyche and what is happening in our own life. Something is changing inside you. The old dies to make way for the new. Don’t worry or feel guilty. Embrace the change. Your dream is revealing the significance of the change that is coming. The fact that it involves the powerful symbol of a loved one dying means that you need to pay attention and act as your own guide to the future.

I keep dreaming about dying?

Dreams play a very important role in our well-being. It is during the rapid-eye movement (or R.E.M.) sleep that many complex metabolic functions take place that bring healing to our bodies and minds. This usually tales place between the hours of 3 and 5 A.M., and in this relatively short time we are made whole again and able to face another day.

The complex interaction between our dreaming and other metabolic functions is an emerging science, and may lead to breakthroughs in systemic illnesses; including psychosis, obesity, hypertension and many others. Your dream has created symbols that are unique to you (sorry….. dream symbol books are of little value) and this drama that has emerged into your conscious mind has an important tale to tell. You are wise to pursue the matter! Now, as to your dream:

Self-destructive unconscious commands are given to us during our formative years, and are embedded deep within our psyche. Left unchecked, they can and sometimes do lead to one taking their own life. So I do not underestimate the seriousness of your question here, or your need to find peace in this dream matter.

I will ask you to think back now, to a time when you were very young. Who might have had some terrible things to say to you that may have caused you to question your value as a human being, or even your right to live on this planet? According to our constitution, we are granted the inalienable right by our Creator for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is time to tell these internal "tapes" that constantly play a message to the contrary to take a hike.

As adults, we can successfully confront issues that may have gotten the best of us as children. Speak to those negative voices and declare your right to live a rich and rewarding life, free of nightmarish scenarios that rob you of your happiness!

Best wishes to you.

dreams aren’t literal . everything is a symbol. Death almost always suggests an ending of something. But not you. In this case since you see yourself dying, perhaps you are ending something within you, or have moved beyond something that used to be a part of your identity. Or that you have been thinking that you are different now than you used to be, so part of you ‘died’. The old you. The new you is leaving that past you behind..You would need to remember enough of the rest of the dream and put that together with your life, or thoughts about your life, to see what it might represent as ending. But never worry about death. I have died many times in dreams, or fallen from a high window (and never land) yet here I am. Dreams are fascinating. Start a dream diary. Write everything down. Use words to describe things..Then think what those words could mean to you aside from what you assumed in the dream. Cars trains bikes planes canoes boats skates… are all symbols of your general life. The boat is on rough seas might mean your life is very rough now, or about to be. Driving too fast in a car means you are moving recklessly through your life. Not knowing how to ride the bike could mean you don’t know how to get through this period. You can see how you would need the rest of the dream to give you a hint about what ended (died).
