I Keep Having Dreams Where I Am Forgotten

I keep having a dream about me forgetting my bags for a vacation, and I'm stressed out in the dream because I'm trying to get it back. What does it mean?

Your dream is not about your bags. Or your trip. When, years ago, I was in a relationship that had become dysfunctional I was also traveling a lot to China on business and I would have what I called my China dreams. The plot was always the same: I’d be traveling in a big bus with other people to a factory or somewhere and realize I’d forgotten my laptop. Big problem because it was a wasted day without it. And somehow I didn’t have my bag so I was without my wallet also. I’d think okay, I’ll just have to call someone at the hotel to get it for me. But then I’d realize I’d also lost my cellphone. And I’d look around the bus and see that everyone else had got off the bus while I wasn’t looking and I was going somewhere alone with the bus driver, who spoke zero English. Somehow losing my cellphone was the worst part. Laptop, okay a drag, wallet, darn what a hassle— but not having my phone was devastating. And looking out the window I’d see that I was in some little Chinese village, totally out in the middle of nowhere. And the bus would drop me off there. And . . .You get the idea. I had this dream so often I remember sometimes in the dream I would think that I must be dreaming because I remembered it. I’d even test myself by looking at something, say a wall, and it would be there in such detail, cracks and mold and dirt, that I would think no, this is real and I’m totally lost. I’d wake up feeling both relieved and crappy.During my relationship breakup I was seeing a therapist and told him about this dream. He wasn’t impressed. He said immediately, “It’s not about China.”He was right. As soon as I started getting my life together again the China dreams stopped (even though I was still going there occasionally). Instead I started having dreams in which I found my cellphone. They were much more pleasant. So think about what’s stressing you out right now. That’s what the dream is about. Remove that stress and your dreams will become much more pleasant.

What does it mean if i keep having dreams about being barefoot?

that in the real world, whatever it is you are about to embark on is really just silliness. You haven't taken into account ANY of the most basic BAD SHlT that could happen.

Dreams about forgetting to feed pets?

I keep having reoccurring dreams about forgetting to feed pets that I've never owned. In one it was a litter of kittens, and by the time I remembered I even had cats, I saw them starving and almost dead. In one I've had last night it was a shrew, again forgot I owned it and it starved. I've been having dreams like this for a couple months now and it's frightening, I wake up thinking I've actually done this. Does any one know what these dreams mean? I've tried to find the answers but I only find things on people's pets that have recently died or ones they've owned in the past.

Dream Interpretation--forgotten hamsters :-)?

Holy crap! I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've often had dreams where I've got some pet that I forget to feed.

I hate to think what that might say about me, but if you're willing to admit it, I will too.

I've tried to analyze it myself, but I guess it creeps me out so much and I feel so bad about it that I was afraid to look into it.

Let's see what others have to say....

Maybe I'll be brave enough to give it some thought and will come back on Monday with an update.

For now, the pop psychology answer is: It would seem to indicate fear of forgetting something important. Or perhaps just a general anxiety. I'm a little OCD, but I can't say I spend an inordinate amount of time making lists and checking them twice. I take very good care of my pets, and I've never forgotten to feed them!

Those are some obvious answers, but they just don't resonate with me. Like I said, I'm not overly ocd so I don't have a waking fear of forgetting anything. I'm a good caretaker of my pets, so that's not it.

I wish I knew!

Why do I always have a dream that I've lost or forgotten something and trying to undo/correct the mistakes made?

I have had the same thing sometimes and never figured out why, so I looked it up a bit. According to the site below:“To dream that you are forgetting things signify life's anxieties. You are expressing an overwhelming amount of stress in your life. You feel the need to tend to everything and everyone's needs. Alternatively, forgetting something may represent your subconscious desire to leave that something behind.” (1)I agree; after we got married, I had a repeating dream about things going wrong, from the dresses not being ready, to no food for the guests….and anything else you can imagine. It was odd that I dreamed it after the wedding and not before!Perhaps I regretted having such a big “do” since it wasn’t much fun and more like having a catering job that fell flat.1. Your Dream Symbol Interpretation

Last night I had a dream. However, I have forgotten most of it. How can I recall what my dream was about?

I’m sorry Adam, but there isn’t really a way to recall what your dream is about, maybe if you think really hard? There’s actually a scientific reason why we forget our dreams so quickly. But generally, there are two reasons why you tend to forget most of your dreams: a lack of norepinephrine, and nonessential parts.During REM, your brain lacks a special horomone called norepinephrine in the cerebral cortex ( a region inside the brain associated with memory, thought, and consciousness). And a recent study showed that norepinephrine actually enhances memory in humans, so the less amount of the horomone you have, the less likely you are to retain your memory or dream! However, the lack of norepinephrine doesn’t completely explain why we forget dreams so easily. The other reason is due to your lack of forgetfullness. In general, humans are very good at forgetting nonessential, or unimportant thoughts. We tend to recall things that are only of significance like problems, dates, meetings, schools, etc. That’s why beautiful or bizarre dreams tend to remain behind! It’s because they’ve captured our attention and increased activity in certain regions of the brain, leading you to a larger chance of remembering it!To sum what I said above, there are two reasons why we tend to forget our dreams so quickly, and they are associated with a lack of a hormone called norepinephrine, and the fact that we tend to forget nonessential thoughts or memories. In general, it’s only the interesting or strange dreams that are left behind, because they are the ones which grab our attention.

What does it mean when you dream that you forgot to pack some stuff on a vacation?

This is a dream about not being prepared for what life has to offer you. Forgetting things on vacation is better than forgetting things for work. I think you just have a subconscious worry about not being perfect and literally forgetting things or not being prepared.

Dream I forgot to feed newborn baby?

Last night I dreamt that I forgot to feed my newborn baby. I am 3 months pregnant and plan on breast feeding, this is my first. In my dream it was like I just all of a sudden realized that I hadn't fed the baby in a few days and he was starting to get skinny. I freaked out! This is my second dream about forgetting to feed the baby. My first one was about how I wasn't shown or told to breast feed and when we got home from the hospital I realized I hadn't fed the baby at all and was worried I wouldn't be able to breast feed now because it was too late.
I'm not worried about forgetting to feed my baby in real life so I'm not sure why I keep having these dreams that I will. What can they mean?
