For young men, I don't like to wear t-shirt all the time but I like to dress up. How could I ride an electric assisted-bicycle to church rain gear or heavy gear with suit and tie most places in the United States?

Thanks for the A2A. You asked: For young men, I don’t like to wear t-shirt all the time but I like to dress up. How could I ride an electric assisted bicycle to church rain gear or heavy gear with suit and tie most places in the United States?I’m assuming if you’re asking about rain gear that you’re concerned about getting your suit and tie wet in the rain. You can ride a bicycle in a suit and tie when it’s not raining without worrying about the rain gear. Just get yourself a couple bungie cords and put one over your pants around each leg to keep the hem of your pants from touching the chain and chainring. When I rode a bicycle for transportation, I messed up more than one pair of jeans by not doing this and allowing the hem of the jeans to touch the chain ring repeatedly. If you’re riding in the rain, one solution is to wear a trash bag over your suit, Make a hole for the neck and one hole for each arm, and put it on over your head. This will at least keep your suit jacket dry except for your arms. Couple that with rubber boots and at least part of your pants will stay dry too.The ultimate solution in keeping your suit dry? Put it in a backpack, wear regular clothes until you get to church, then step into the bathroom and change into your suit and tie in there. Then change back into your regular clothes before you leave church to ride home. Or arrange for a ride with someone who drives a car.

I'd like my husband to wear a shirt and tie on our date nights each week. Is that alot to ask?

Are you being serious? That is not too much to ask. Now if you were to request that he wear a short skirt and heels, that may be too much; but for a man to look respectable and show some pride in himself while out with his wife, seems right to me.

I like French cuff shirts, but I don't wear a suit. Can I wear a French cuffed shirt without a jacket?

It looks a bit odd if you ask me. I would at least throw on a sports coat to make it look a little more coherent …If I happen to wear French cuff shirts without a suit or a coat, I will usually not close them the conventional way (i.e. both sides parallely next to each other), but to let one side of the cuff to overlap the others, creating sort of a double standard cuff. That’s helpful in particular when wearing sweaters. A great way to make a shirt more casual, when you want to have a more casual evening outfit while on a business trip. But that’s probably nothing you want to consider, when you want French cuffs. If you like French cuffs without suit or coat, you may want to look at so-called cocktail aka turnback aka neapolitan cuffs or James- Bond-cuffs. They have similar looks, but look less out of place without suit or coat.

It used to be so easy, suit, shirt, and tie, but today, what do I wear to business meetings out of the office to look modern but business-like?

A2A. You can still wear a suit, dress shirt and tie for business meetings. If you feel everyone else is going to be business casual, but you feel uncomfortable being too casual, wear a blazer, dress slacks, dress shoes, and a sport shirt, but no tie. Or you could wear a dress shirt, but wear a black crew tee shirt so you don’t have chest hair or your bony neck showing.Or if you want to be part casual and part business, wear a blazer, dress shirt and tie, and pressed khakis. You can mix it up. Remember that it is better to be dressed up than dressed down.I recall a dress up issue occurred at the last company I worked for before I started my own firm. The style was business dress; everyone wore a suit or sport jacket, dress shirt and tie. We had a consultant who the firm had retained. who had formerly been a partner of Booz Allen and Roy Weston. His style as a consultant, regardless of the dress style of the company he was consulting to, was to wear a sport shirt and jeans. It didn’t bother me, but I recall that the office manager was offended by this style of dress. Personally, I think the consultant should have considered the dress style and conservative atmosphere of the companies he was consulting to. He could have gone part way, instead of all the way toward casual dress.

Is it weird to wear jeans with a dress shirt and tie to work for this occasion?

It depends whether it is summer or winter. If it is summer, then go with a check shirt and a plain tie. But if it is winter then you can combine a lot of different add-ons to your dressing which can greatly enhance you overall appearance. You can combine it with waistcoat, trench coat, blazer or a leather jacket.
