Can I cancel my PAN card and get a new one?

No you can't cancel your pan card.Pan stands for PERMANENT ACCOUNT NUMBER i.e. once alloted can not be changed all the data of your income is fetched by income tax department by using this number only so obviously they won't allow you to change.I would like to know that why do you want to cancel your existing pan card and get a new one ? I guess following para can help you out.If you want a new pan card with the same pan number then you can do it easily by just filling out form 49a as per income tax act 1961 and get a new pan card.Another thing could be is if you have more then one pan number inversely alloted to you by the department the you can also cancel those pan number by filling form 49A.

I have lost my PAN card and I also forgot my PAN number. What is the procedure to reissue a PAN card?

The easiest and best, is perhaps this approach.Apply for a new PAN card.If you apply through UTI, you would receive a letter from the Income Tax / UTI departments that there already exists a PAN number against the details you have provided in the PAN Card application. The letter also would ask you to confirm if this PAN number belongs to you and the PAN card to be issued on that PAN number, or if you would like to have a new PAN card to be issued. All you have to do is to reply to that letter, indicating that you would like the PAN Card to be issued in the PAN number that already exists in your name. You would have your PAN card issue resolved. If you apply through NSDL, when you check the status, you would notice a similar information. You may not receive a letter as UTI. Take a printout of the status in the website, and submit that letter where you had submitted your PAN card application. You should get your PAN card delivered with your PAN number. For this approach to work, the details like your name (first and last names), your father’s name, your date of birth, that you fill in your PAN Card application should remain the same as you had provided earlier. If any of the information is different you would be issued a new PAN card. If you are not sure about the details you, this is not advisable. You would then have to try the other approach, in finding your PAN from this link below:Know Your PANHope this approach helps.Brokerage Free - PAN Services
