I Lost My Retainer I Don

I lost my retainer, what should I do?

I'm currently on vacation and won't be returning back home for another two weeks, but I took my braces off 8-9 months ago and I've been told to wear a retainer at all times except when I'm brushing my teeth or eating.

My orthodontists said I could take it out sometimes for special occasions but not to leave it out for more than a few hours. I didn't really wear it that much, but I did wear it EVERY night, and some days I did wear it at all times, and my teeth are still straight, except my two front teeth moved a part a TINY bit.

Anyways, I lost my retainer case and so I was eating a bag of chips and wrapped my retainer in a napkin, which the orthos warned me about not doing, but after 8-9 months of having a retainer and never losing it, I didn't really care, because I didn't expect to lose it. But someone in my family accidentally threw it away, and an hour later, I realized it was gone, so I started to panic and asked everyone if they seen it anywhere and they all didn't, and my aunt cleans up a lot, so I knew she accidentally threw it away in the trash. My cousin took the trash out before I realized it was missing into this huge community bin outside their neighborhood, so I went out and digged through three of their trash bags, and didn't find it, so I started to cry.

My aunt and uncle told me to forget about it because they don't understand how important it was that I find it, so now I'm in a different city that's five hours away, and won't be going back to the city that I lost my retainer in, so I'm going to be retainer-less for 2 more weeks.

And my orthodontists told me if I ever lose my retainer, schedule an appointment immediately to get a new one, but I CAN'T BECAUSE MY FLIGHT BACK HOME DOESN'T LEAVE FOR ANOTHER TWO WEEKS.

1. What should I do?
2. How can I tell my mom (who didn't come on this vacation with me) that I lost it?
3. How much will it cost to replace it?
4. Would I have to put my braces back on, if so, how much will that cost?
5. How much will my teeth shift?
6. How can I calm myself down?

If you read this, thank you so much. Please help me, I can't stop crying and my aunt and uncle are telling me how irresponsible I am and such making me feel worse. Once I tell my mom on Skype, I'm going to have her call my orthodontists so she can tell them I lost my retainer and for solutions.

10 POINTS FOR BEST ANSWER.

I lost my retainer AGAIN!!!!!?

I'm sorry but your teeth will shift really fast if you don't wear your retainer properly. The best way you can do is to tell your parents right away because if i were you, i'd rather get yell at than wasted my parents money on braces & get crooked teeth again. But obviously, who doesn't love their kids, they got you braces because they wanted you to have a great smile, my mom did too ( even though she doesn't make much money, but she still tried to get it for me). So if they know that you lost your retainers then they'll definitely rush you to get a new one because they don't want to waste their money on your braces like that. A pair of retainers don't cost even near as much as they paid for your braces & if i were your mom, i wouldn't want my kid to go through all that pain with braces again. Trust me, I'm sure because my mom is like this too.

I LOST my retainer!!!!?

I was in the same position as you and the same teeth problem. The only thing I can tell you is tell your parents. Sure, they are going to be mad but I mean the longer you wait to tell them the angrier they are going to get. The first time I lost my retainer, I took them out to eat. I was trying to find them because well my mom was on my back telling me to put them on because I haven't worn them in a while. It was bad luck because, I lost them. I haven't told my mom in a couple of days. I wanted to tell her when she was in a good mood. Of course she got mad but told me not to lose them again and to keep them in my case. If I did, she is not going to get anymore because she felt as though she was wasting money.

So honestly, tell your parents. Maybe they will help you find them or catch the on a good day and tell them.

I lost my retainers and my parents won't...?

....and my parents won't buy me a new one!?

This is the first and only time I've lost my retainer. I understand it's expensive (coughing up +100 dollars isn't easy), but I don't think it's very, I don't know, reasonable for my parents to just shrug their shoulders and go "oh well"?
I have friends who've lost and broken their retainers at least more than twice a year, and yet, when I lose mine once, it's suddenly not worth the effort to try and get a cheaper one or something? The economy is hard, yes, but I don't know how to convince my parents to just get a new one from the ortho, just once. That's all I ask...
It's been a MONTH now and I'm getting paranoid each morning. Just today I looked in the mirror and I'm almost SURE that a tooth in the front is starting to tilt inward! O_O

It's stressing me out because I don't want that year of braces to have been for nothing; but my dad is stubborn and won't pay... is there anyway you guys think might convince him?
If you were in my shoes, how would you persuade your parents?

Thanks to any answers; sorry for the ranting! ^^
Hope everyone has a great day~!

I lost my retainer a week ago and I won't be able to get a new one until 2 weeks later. Will my teeth shift a lot in that time?

How do I tell my parents I lost my retainer?

After my previous question I realized I have to tell my parents I lost my retainer but I'm literally crying cause my parents are strict about this stuff and I have no clue how to tell them

I lost my retainer, will my teeth shift?

So I got my braces off last August, and got a retainer. I broke my first retainer, and then got a second one, but I just lost it today (please don't tell me anything for being stupid enough to lose/break my retainer twice... I know I'm really stupid :( )
Anyways, I'm gonna call the orthodontist tomorrow to get an appointment to make a mold for a new retainer (and I'm paying for it myself since I was stupid enough to lose two) but I'm worried about my teeth shifting a lot. I don't want to, after waiting a few weeks for a retainer, see my teeth have shifted a lot and they're ugly looking, or worse, have to get braces again D: is there anything I can do to make it so they don't shift even without a retainer? What do I do?? Please help, thanks :/

I lost my retainer case. Where should I put my retainer when it's not in my mouth (until I get a new one)?

I just lost my case today, while at a restaurant. I left it there when I was putting my retainer back in. D: I'm going out of town tomorrow morning, so I won't have a new case tomorrow. And I also live 20 minutes out of the city so I don't have the time or patience to really go anytime soon. So, if you or anyone you know has lost their retainer case and made up a nice substitute, please share me your ideas! I don't know what I can use. Thanks! :)

I've lost my retainer and my parents can't afford another one?

I'm 16, I've had braces for 3 years and prior to that i wore a retainer (all day, even when I ate) for 2 years. Now its all going to go to waste because i've lost my retainer (the one you get after your braces) and my parents can't afford to buy another one until after a few months....any advice on my currently hopeless situation. ?

I suppose i could possibly but not likely get a job............maybe

Will my teeth shift if I don’t have my bottom retainer? I lost it.

Yes, they will absolutely move overtime. Im 19, and got my braces off the summer going into HS. This means I probably got them off when i was 14/15. I really didnt wear my retainers much at ALL during highschool. Though at this point its been years, after a couple years I definitely noticed a change. At this point, my top teeth havent moved at all, but my bottom teeth are getting pretty crowded. I urge and push you to see your orthodontist ASAP to get a new retainer
