I Love Being Scared And Enoy The Thrill And Adrenaline Rush Of It. Is There A Scientific Term Used

Why do I enjoy the things that scare me ?

For instance, I have spectrophobia but I really love standing in the dark and watching myself in the mirror, it terrifies me to death! And I love it. Yet I dont like playing horror games because they scare me, but I love watching horror movies... because they scare me... Does this make sense ? I saw a horror movie called "mirrors" AND I LOVED IT! I sometimes go to the woods at midnight and LOVE the feeling when I hear a branch crack behind me, because it terrifies me... Could someone please tell me whats wrong with me ? How come I like to put myself in danger for the thrill of horror and I love horror movies and my phobias, but horror games are just "too much"... how ? why ?
So there are two main questions:
1) Why do I love to get scared by my phobias ? (especially spectrophobia)
2) Why do I love all horror but not horror games ? Im a gamer, I should like it

Why do people like being scared? (Scary movies, rollercoasters)?

Dopamine. It's an addictive neurotransmitter. Most people get a hit when they winning at the races, the casino, finishing a marathon, jumping from a plane or cliff (BASE jumping). For me it's writing, for others it's climbing Mt Everest.Usually the high is accentuated by adrenaline. Anything that causes a rapid rise in sympathetic nerve stimulation.Being scared can also be addictive due to the relief afterwards that one has survived an ordeal. It's not surprising that some WWII survivors say it was the most meaningful time in their life.I'll stick the word smithing.

Why do I not find adrenaline rushes enjoyable?

Most people I know enjoy things like roller coasters, horror films, and other adrenaline-rush inducing activities.

For some reason, all they do is make me sick and uncomfortable. I'm not scared of roller coasters or horror films, they just make me feel uncomfortable, and I don't really feel the thrill and adrenaline-high.

Am I just squeamish, or is there a psychological/medical explanation for this?

Scary movies vs. Funny movies which is better?

Horror movies are a lot better then comedies. I like scary movies because they give you an adrenaline rush and it's like riding on a roller coaster and I love the thrill I get from watching a scary movie. I like getting scared and horror movies are fun to watch by yourself or with other people. I try and relate to the characters in horror movies and think what I would do if I was in their situation. It's just fun getting scared and horror movies get your mind off things for awhile and it's great entertainment.

Is it normal if someone "enjoys fear"?

I get a thrill when I have moments of being really scared. I asked my therapist and she said it was normal. Sometimes it's just the feeling you get right after the thrill. Don't worry about it. ur fine cuz she didn't put me on meds and im the same!

Why do people enjoy horror films and being scared, is it because perhaps our daily lives are so mundane?

Why do people enjoy horror films and being scared, is it because perhaps our daily lives are so mundane? Not quite. Many people who live exciting lives still enjoy them.Psychologists theorize that it’s for a mixture of different reasons. Some people simply love the gore and the thrill, and the movies allow them to enjoy these in a safe environment, free of consequences. Some enjoy “making it through” the movie, as if it were a challenge. They dare themselves to watch it, and feel kind of proud that they did. Some just love the adrenaline rush. The experience is quite similar to doing extreme sports, but it’s a lot less straining physically. This WebMD article elaborates on the topic some more: Why do Thrill Seekers Love Being Scared?

Why do humans love horror films? Why are we attracted to the slayings of serial killers in various films?

I don't watch them so much any more, but I did in years past. For me anyway, it was never the murdering or gruesome slaying of innocent people that was what interested me. It was the phychology behind it.I grew up in the 80's when Halloween, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street were all the rage. And to this day, if I hear the Halloween intro music (that ominous piano going dee—da-ta dee—da-ta dee—da-ta dee-da-dee-da dee—da-ta) or if i hear that Friday the 13th sound (Chee chee-chee He-He-He Ha-ha-ha ) it still gives me the creeps even if the movie isn't even on because those sounds have gotten stuck in me and when I hear them I know something not so good is about to happen. It just has that psycholigical aspect to it that makes it scary even if it really isn't ( let's face it, Friday the 13th was pretty predictable. You knew was going to happen because it is all that happened over and over the entire movie.)But the thrill aspect knowing someone was about to get it but you aren't sure when, where or how. But you knew it was about to happen and you get all this suspense built up and even though you expected it, it still got you when they jumped out and the music makes that familiar wreeee-wreeee-wreeee slasher sound and the person would scream and gurgle in blood as they were being sliced and diced.I guess it is important to be able to watch them and be able to separate reality and fiction. I never get/got grossed out no matter how realistic it was because I knew it was fake and I didn't bury myself so deep into the story that I lost my sense of reality. And I admit, I do like the Saw movies but again, it is the phychological thrill behind it that attracts me to it, not neccessarily the backwards bear trap ripping someone's jaw off their face (which you have to admit was pretty cool.)Maybe it is different for everyone and I am sure there is a percentage of sickos that get some twisted satisfaction watching them and fantasizing it is them that is doing it. But hopfully they are far and few between.
