I M Doing Company Secretary Course In India But I Want To Get A Job In America. What Would I Have

If I study company secretary in India, can I get a job abroad as a company secretary?

Science is universal that's why a person from scientific background can work abroad without second thought but laws are not universal, they are country specific. Every country has it's own set of rules and regulation which simply means that corporate laws, compliance rules, taxation laws and practices etc. that you have studied in India would be irrelevant in UK, US and other nations. That’s why it is difficult for CS to work abroad but “not impossible”.Institute is constantly working towards increasing scope for its members. ICSI has entered into agreements (Memorandum of Understanding) with various nations like UK to facilitate entry of its members in these markets. As per these MoUs candidates are allowed on some conditions. As a matter of fact Malaysian Association of Company Secretaries is going to adopt Secretarial Standards issued by ICSI.If a person wishes to work abroad he/she should choose the nation in which he /she wants to work and then look into the memorandum to check the conditions e.g. you chose to work in London, as per the MOU with UK you will have to clear 3 papers. After clearing papers you can serve in London as a company secretary. There are numerous job opportunities in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore etc.Absolute opportunity in Dubai:- We all know that ICSI has exam centres in Dubai. It means a person who wants to work in Dubai doesn't have to clear additional papers. His/her qualification in India is enough for him to work there as company secretary. A person can apply for the job in Dubai after completing Company secretary course in India, provided he/ she has completed his/her CS course with minimum 65% marks. Vacancies are/were available for CS in the following companies:Robert Half United Arab Emirates - DubaiJorogis Technical Works L.L.C - DubaiTafani Contracting LLC - DubaiKarmen Engineering Pte LtdInter Ocean Ship Repair L.L.CDubai/ UAE24x7 Corporate Solutions India Private LimitedDubai/ UAEAce Employment services Pvt ltd hiring for Leading Construction CompanyDubai/ UAE.I hope it will help you.Good luck!

What are the career options after completing Company Secretary course from icsi?

Future is bright when your choice is right! There are countless opportunities waiting for you after CS, all what you need to do is to search them and utilise properly. If you miss one don't be sad because the other one is in line.I'm assuming that by saying “after completing company secretary course” you mean after passing professional program but before 15 months or 12 months training, whichever applicable, because after working for a year all doubts regarding carrer aspects are cleared and nobody ask such question .Now let's see where you can provide your services as CS:-Firstly, your career aspects highly depend on the period of time and quality of your training. So during your training period stay ready to get grilled. I often say - where there is law there is an opportunity for a CS . Which means after completing your training you can go to the banking institutions as well as non banking financial institutions, stock exchanges, office of liquidator, office of registrar of companies, multi national companies, domestic companies, PCS firms, stock brokers firm, law firms, government companies like BHEL, ONGC etc. You can be a member of a PCS firm or you can practice solely, as you wish. You can be a whole time company secretary or can do practice. If you don’t like your full time job you can switch to practice and vice versa. Succinctly speaking, there are ocean full of opportunities “if” you have “skills”. So it depends on you how skillfully and diligently you tackle situations and corporate problems and how rapidly you create and increase you goodwill, trustworthiness and how you grow. It is in your hands. Here comes a tip of advice, if you want to grow faster and want to stand out of the crowd start making contacts as soon as you enter in professional programme. Interact with your faculties, visit your chapter, attend conferences and other events organised by your chapter and communicate. Because in business contacts are crucial.

Can I get a job in abroad, if I complete CS (company Secretary) in India.?

Yes you can. However, this does not imply that the degree of CS is enough for a placement abroad. As I have stated in numerous such questions on Quora, the structure of laws is similar in Commonwealth countries, viz., India, Hong Kong, UK, Australia and even Canada at times. Coupled with this, the ICSI has MoU's with ICSA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) and CISI (Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment), UK, can help you get there. The chances of placement increase ten-fold if you have qualifications from these institutes as their recognition is far more than ICSI, extending up to Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.  In my experience, it is vital that a candidate be present in the country when the placement process, i.e., interview background checks etc, is being conducted. However, this might change if your employed on a considerably high post. It should also be noted that most corporate's prefer people with experience of working in that country when it comes to posts such as Assistant CS, etc. The best possible placement available for a fresher with all the aforementioned qualifications range between Trainee's and Assistant CS.

What are the options in US for a Company Secretary having 7 years of working experience in Indian company? Also, are there any related course which can help finding job in US

I may not be optimally equipped to answer this but I do know quite a bit about governance structures all over the globe. For a Company Secretary (ICSI), the degree by itself cannot help in employment. However, there are a few positives to it. Firstly, it can be recognized as a professional degree and puts you at the top of the queue when seeking out admissions in Foreign Universities. Secondly, the post qualification work experience will be recognized in your favor not only in the Universities, but also by prospective employers (fair warning: Employers consider only “local” working experience, but 7 years is a considerable amount of time that’ll definitely work in your favor). You can appreciate that considering all of this, one will have to start from the basics at any job. However, there are a few courses that can further one’s secretarial and governance career in the US of A after CS (ICSI).The traditional work of a CS (Convening, conducting and minuting Meetings et all) is usually fulfilled by “legal secretaries”, and the governance and securities compliance profile is distinctly handled by other corporate lawyers. Hence, one can either pursue a generic (or specialized) law degree, or, pursue a diploma/certificate course in governance and securities laws. The closest I could find was MSL in Corporate Compliance .Hope this was helpful

As a qualified CS from Institute of Company Secretaries of India, what course should I purse to find a job in Secretarial or Compliance in Germany?

A2AThe first step would be gaining enough work experience in the field even before you pursue such courses. Bear in mind that since Germany, being a part of EU, is bound by the law to give preference to applicants in EU. To add to the same it has a vast market spanning from Spain to Sweden and hence the job market can be competitive. Hence, a substantial work experience gets you noticed and puts you at an advantage over others. The course which can assist you in this is ICSA. ICSA is the Chartered Secretarial institute of the UK which is recognized through out Europe. To give you an example, in the Deutsche Bank HQ in Berlin, the secretarial team - from Trainee’s to Deputy Company Secretaries, have all been hired from ICSA. Since ICSI has an MoU with ICSA (or at least it did earlier, not sure of the scenario now.) it might be easier for you.Hope this was helpful.!Best of luck :)

Do you regret being a company secretary at ICSI?

Thank you for the A2A.But I'm afraid I can't actually help with this question.I'm not a CS, I'm studying to be one. But tbh, I do not have an inclination towards it. I'm doing it only because my mother wants me to. I don't regret it as per se. But I do not enjoy it either. So my answer would be to pursue it only if you want to. Is that hypocritical of me? Yes, it is. But that's all I could say. Doing to something you don't want to, is all painful and difficult as not doing something you want to.

Can an average student do Company Secretary?

An average student can definitely do company secretary course. I am doing CS and got the Grace to pass 12 out of 14 papers of CS. I am an average student. Sometimes I even feel I am below average. An important question is, do you actually want to work as a CS. There are many who consider this work as dull and boring. Also there are many people who enjoy this kind of work. It would be better to have an idea about the type of works you will be doing once you get qualified. If that interests you and if you are willing to work really hard and study subjects like securities market, company law (dry if you are not much interested), go ahead. Also if what you want is just a qualification, CS is amazing too. But you should be willing to work really hard. Apart from Gulf countries no other countries count this as a qualification to work there. Otherwise you should get through chartered secretary exam. They give exemptions for company secretaries with experience. If you really enjoy marketing job, then there are many courses that will help you grow more in your present field. Recently came across a marketing course conducted by IIM Lucknow. They have study centers across India. Please check this link if you are interested: http://www.niitimperia.com/IIM-L... . There are many other courses that you can do along with your job, Also Indian Institute of Business Management and studies offer several business management courses.www.iibms.org (Not sure how much these distance education courses will help while progressing in career or while looking for a career abroad.)Also many universities and even IIMs conduct many distance education courses. LLb too would be a good option. If you are in Kerala, Law academy in Trivandrum has LLB evening course (6pm to 8pm) and you get the regular LLB certificate. Also many colleges in Bangalore provide LLB courses where in you have to attend some minimum number of classes.
