What makes a minecraft server stand out for you? What do you consider important aspects of massively popular minecraft servers? What (in your opinion) makes a minecraft server successful?

Personally I think that you shouldn't have minigames. There are already thousands of minigames servers out there. You can have them, just don't make it the selling point. What you should make your server is amazing. Make it amazing in some aspect. The reason Mineplex is a famous server is because there are a ton of developers making original plugins. This means that you won't find that exact minigame in any other server. Another thing they are good at is producing. They are good at designing and putting out maps that are creative and original. A lot of time is put into making a map balanced and fun. Unless you are good at java programming, or have a friend who is proficient in it, don't make a minigames server. What makes a good server is how appealing it is to the eye. Make sure whoever is joining feels a need to stay. One way I did this is by using command blocks to change a sign to say Welcome [username] to [Server name which at the time was called MECVERSE]. Make sure you know what type of server you want. Is it Survival, RPG, modded? To build a community without coding fun plugins you need to have it be very good in some aspect. It has to be different and excellent at what it does differently. Start off with a couple few players. You'd be surprised how well you can grow a server from one or two people. Make sure the first 20 that join become very close to you. This makes them loyal allies in your quest to make your server popular!Also, don't make a bunch of your new pals staff members. Don't make all your real-life friends staff members either. Make sure you make the people who you trust the most, with the epic duty of maintaining a server while you're gone, the staff. Colours. You need colours! Especially a good colour scheme. When people are welcomed, they like to know that they are. Don't pick dark colours that darken the mood; pick loud ones that give off the impression of a fun server. However, nowadays, especially after the Microsoft Buyout and all of the changes they’ve made to the game, many Minecraft players now play almost exclusively on servers.Now, if you want to run a server, you need:Dedication: Running a Minecraft server can become time-consuming, especially if it gets off the ground and becomes incredibly popular. Some larger servers actually bring on staff to help run the server, paying them using money donated by players. You have to be willing to invest the time and energy into building the server up and getting it configured the way you want, to suit what you want it to have. Trust me, before my server closed its doors, it took a lot of time and energy for my staff and I to keep the server running smoothly. We were a small team of only ten people, ten people to moderate, administer, and configure a server that had an average daily player count of over 100 players…A Basic Understanding of How Minecraft Works: Servers can be complicated, and the convoluted process Mojang has for creating them by yourself certainly doesn’t help… You could go around this problem by going to a dedicated hosting company, but that costs money. Things get even more complicated if you decide to start adding Bukkit plugins, and things get even worse if you decide to add mods. Going into building a server without any real knowledge on the matter can lead to an unstable and fragmented server with no real purpose, theme, or guidance.A Creative Mind: Again, this ties back into servers that have no real theme or purpose.
