I Made Jv Cheer And All My Friends Made Varsity. Should I Try Cross Country Or Stick With Cheer

How can I convince my parents to let me do Cross Country?

I am in 8th grade this year and I did track. I'm not varsity, but I am not slow, I'm kind of a middle(not really good but not bad) I was a sprinter and I had a lot of fun. I have been thinking about running longer distances, and my last mile I got a 6:30. I know quite a few people that run Cross Country in the fall and they said I should run it and I would really like to. When I asked my mom she said that it would be to much stress since I'm starting high school next year, and she can't imagine me running so many miles for cross country. People have told me I should run cross country since its fun, and they have told me in front of my mom, so shes been told how much fun it is to run it. I really would like to do it, do you think I should run cross country? How can I convince my mom to let me run it?

So I want to try out for the swim team....?

I'm kinda of in a pickle. I REALLY want to try out for the swim team, but I'm kind of scared. I'm not too confident in my swimming ability, more so I feel like my ability to swim is terrible, so I'm scared I won't make the team, or if I do, that I'll practically die during morning and afternoon practices. I don't have that much stamina or endurance. Like, I can barely manage doing a 100, since I get tired around the 3rd lap. So I was wondering, if any fellow swimmers out there would like to give me some advice as to how I could possibly overcome this predicament of mine? The things I really want to focus on, is building my swimming stamina and endurance, so I was curious if anyone could give me advice or tips on what kind of drills or things I could do at the neighborhood pool to help improve my stamina and endurance?

Also, as a side note, what were practices like in high school? I'm a sophomore, barely turned 15 2 weeks ago. I'm just curious, since a lot the people on the swim team say practices are utter hell. I just want to make sure I go to the tryouts prepared and confident.

Thanks in advance!

Need to lose weight teen OBESE?

Well first of all before you start totally freaking out . Online BMI is not really correct. To be sure you need to really go in and test ur body fat percentage not by filling in a few lines with just ur weight and height. I know everyone says it but muscle weighs more than fat and people are built differentially So before you really freak out i suggest you really check ur BMI either through a credible way aka use a professional. And if you do need or want to lose weight a diet journal helps eliminating bad food choices and making sure you hit a healthy caloric intake.

I'm thinking about starting field hockey this year but I haven't played any other sports sports before?

Yes, field hockey is a great sport! The letter you got from your school is probably a letter notifying you when preseason starts. So yes, I believe it would be when tryouts start! Field hockey can be a really fun sport, but if its your first year you're going to have to practice a lot to get good, since it can be a difficult sport to learn.

Floor hockey and field hockey are somewhat similar, but they're also very different. Floor hockey, you can use both sides of the stick field hockey you can only use one side. (The flat side) Field hockey can become an extremelly competitive sport in high school. The school I play at's freshman team is undefeated for 20 years, and the varsity and JV team both do extremelly well.

My tryouts at my school last 2 days and are mostly just conditioning. First we start off with running. The freshman had to run one mile, but JV and up had to run 2 miles, and you have to run it in a certain amount of time. Then we do sprints and agility. Then we do crunches and pushups and other workouts. The next day, they test us on our actual field hockey skills. We do cross-field dribbling, shooting, and passing. It's tiring, but if you try hard it will pay off!

Just remember, don't be nervous and try your best! Drink a lot of water since field hockey is all running, and try not to act tired in front of the coaches. Since in field hockey you do a LOT of running, I would suggest running every night before preseason starts. To be good at field hockey your're going to hvave to undergo a lot of conditioning, and always try your hardest! Good luck and I hope you make the team!
